Do you think roadmap will go as planned?

Obviously Boris has stressed that these are only guidelines and are subject to change at any given time.
What are your thoughts? Do you think it will go as planned? Maybe a few push backs along the way which pushes us back a month or 2? Or do you think it's unrealistic and we will still be in this situation at the end of the year?

No I don't think it will. Boris knows how fed up everyone is and is telling us what we want to hear. Just my opinion

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 13:57

No, very little in life on this scale goes as planned but I think it will be close enough

Worknoplay · 24/02/2021 13:58

I think there is a chance that schools will do what they do, ie be a hotbed for covid. It has been an issue from the start, and although the government claims to do 'everything they can' and that 'schools are safe', that is bollux. I think that schools will fully reopen, 100% of students will start, and we will see another explosion of cases in secondary schools. Then the government will continue to bulldoze with their roadmap, and we will have a third wave.

I have absolutely no trust whatsoever that this is going to work.

Alfaix · 24/02/2021 13:59

The first few stages will. Schools, outdoors and 12th April I reckon will go ahead as planned.
Some things in step 3 and step 4 won’t.

BobsDouble · 24/02/2021 13:59

I think that Boris is hoping they he’ll be able to bring things forward and that will be huge boost to his popularity.

What I actually think will happen is that there will be a new variant or vaccine shortages or something else that puts a spanner in the works and it will all get delayed.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 13:59

I'm braced for the wails of abject failure when we hit stage four two weeks late.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 24/02/2021 14:02

This.

But people want a bit of hope so don't want to hear that.

loveislouderthanwar · 24/02/2021 14:04

I agree. I'm not hopeful I'm afraid.

He's just trying to 'rally the troops' and I'm not falling for it.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 24/02/2021 14:05

I think up to 12th April but from there on the dates may slip.

From a personal point of view I'm worried about the potential for Local lockdowns in areas of high cases because I'm in Leicester, we've been in lockdown forever and we're still in the top few locations in terms of high numbers so it's all feeling very Groundhog Day.

SendMeYourSpuds · 24/02/2021 14:06

The part I'm least sure about is "irreversible". They can't know that is how things will happen. We might get to have some more freedoms & privileges for longer by depriving ourselves of most freedoms for as long as possible. That seems to be the best case scenario.

Beaniecats · 24/02/2021 14:06

I'm very wary, that said if they go back on it now the roof really will come off

YogaLite · 24/02/2021 14:09

Apparently there are already areas where infections are rising and we are not out of the lockdown yet Sad I expect the reasons might be that some people don't comply.

AlexaShutUp · 24/02/2021 14:09

I hope it does, but I struggle to trust Boris about anything, he could just be saying what people want to hear. Plus there are so many unknown factors that could get in the way.

I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment, with the emphasis on cautiously.

Missfelipe · 24/02/2021 14:10

No chance. You only have to look on here to see the plans to not adhere to the rules once schools return...

MeanMrMustardSeed · 24/02/2021 14:11

Yes, I think it’s hopeful but plenty of give in the system to account for hiccoughs. Some people think it’s far too slow. Others think it’s too fast. Hopefully the road map is the realistic middle way!

YogaLite · 24/02/2021 14:11

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo, how are u coping in Leicester, must be truly awful Sad

Redcrayons · 24/02/2021 14:17

Schools will definitely go back. Outdoor mixing will be back on, but anything happening indoors is likely to slip.

June date seems a bit ‘saving christmas’ to me so I think that will slip.
Hope it doesn’t as it’s my birthday on 23rd and I’m having a big party that weekend so I can hug everyone.

That’s assuming they’ve learnt anything from last time.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 24/02/2021 14:19

@YogaLite so bored, so very very very bored. Desperate for a trip or holiday, I'll take a night in a premier inn anywhere at all that isn't in Leicester. Haven't seen some friends/family members in a year, haven't been alone in my house for a year, haven't been able to interact with anyone from another household indoors for a year and only a 3 week period in October when we were allowed to have people round socially distanced to the garden. Other than that just socially distanced walks in the park since last March barring the national lockdown bits where you aren't even allowed to do that.

CheeseJalapenoBread · 24/02/2021 14:22

Broadly speaking, yes. I expect some of the dates will slip slightly, but generally heading in the right direction.

AledsiPad · 24/02/2021 14:26

Yep, I do. Because, unlike most of MN, I live out in the real world, where people are so lockdown fatigued that there's absolutely no hope of (or need for) compliance once 75%+ of the adult population are vaccinated. It just won't happen. So, yes. The country will open up, broadly in line with the magical dates, and everything will be fine, eventually.

LarsErickssong · 24/02/2021 14:28

I think the June date won't happen as can't see us being in a place to open nightclubs etc by then, I'm 50/50 on whether the May date will happen possibly some bits will happen but other bits will be delayed, and I think April will go ahead as it's mainly for outdoor stuff anyway. I'm hoping that now we have these 5 week windows it can be shown once and for all the effect schools have on cases.

Randomschoolworker19 · 24/02/2021 14:31

No because there still aren't any significant mitigating measures put in place to keep schools safe. All very good getting the children back but means absolutely nothing if we have to close them again in 2 months time. I not only want them open but to stay open.

Yes the vaccine is amazing! However the vast majority of people in schools haven't been vaccinated and neither have the most easiest of solutions been adopted, e.g, masks in all schools, perspex screens for tables, HEPA air filters to improve ventilation, temperature checks on arrival.

You could do more but those would take more time and investment.

I want it to work, I'm praying it does.

halcyondays · 24/02/2021 14:35

Who knows?

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to the R rate in England when they send all schools back at once compared to the staggered returns in Scotland, Wales and (I very much hope) NI.

unmumsymummy21 · 24/02/2021 14:36

When he set up the roadmap out of lock down in May last year, it all happened as planned. I'm hopeful it will be the same this time. Especially with the vaccination programme going well.

Christmas didn't happen as he said though. So who knows. But we didn't have vaccines at that time, so that changes things.

I think it will more or less happen as planned. We've already been told to be expected back in the office ! Cannot wait !

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/02/2021 14:37

Cases are still rising here. We were at the bottom of case numbers at the start of Jan so think it’s just catching up.
I think it’s too rushed doing all school at once. Some school /some outdoor would have been a better balance.
