Regret having vaccine

Zem74 · 09/02/2021 08:35

Had my vaccine last week, govt classes me as CEV, consultant however said no need to shield as moderate risk, thought I’d be put in group 6 for vaccine rollout.
Got put in with group 4 and was unsure whether to have it or not, but after persuasion from family I did, now I feel full of regret like I’ve made a terrible mistake
I’ll get shot down on here for saying this, but I’ve since read things on social media and the internet that’s making me really panic about how safe this vaccine is/ whether it’s part of a sinister plan etc and I feel so scared that I’ve voluntarily just got myself jabbed with it without thinking it through enoughSad
I’m a mother to young children and these worries are keeping me awake at night since Sad

You don't know what you're on about but you are going to make claims anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️

Totally this. Social media has brought people who think like this into the mainstream. Feelz and rumour have taken over from knowledge and evidence. Irritatingly they seem more convinced of their case than actual scientists. Because, you know, there's always a conspiracy theory you can hang onto somewhere along the line. And yes, ALL the countries using the vaccine are in on it, with their completely different political persuasions and allegiances. All in league with Bill Gates. Makes perfect sense.

Hubblebubble75 · 09/02/2021 11:01

I’m genuinely not trying to shit stir , these are concerns I’m sure lots have - I speak to them ! Work colleagues , friends , older relatives. Happy to go back and tell them their fears are unfounded.
@InterfectoremVulpes this is just play ground spatting at me and not useful
@DenisetheMenace
That’s interesting - I’ll have a listen , thanks

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 11:02

About as useful as you stating that vaccines have been rushed 🤷‍♀️

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2021 11:03

None of you have any facts or are scientists. Neither am I

DoubleTweenQueen is a scientist (in a relevant field). I'm a scientist. If I told you my field it might sound like I'm a specialist - I'm not, but I do understand how to assess the reliability of information, understand statistics and methodology.
I'd take a bet there are quite a few scientists posting on this thread.
Making the unevidenced assertion 'none of you have any facts or are scientists' doesn't exactly enhance your credibility.

bluebluezoo · 09/02/2021 11:03

If we can get a scientist on here I’ll have a listen

There are many, many scientists on here. Read any PhD thread.

I’m one. I have the PhD to prove it.

Generally, if you don’t think vaccines are aafe you do not understand how they work.

Do you also wonder why we don’t have a vaccine for cancer despite many years of research? Or HIV? I’ve seen that meme go round.

Frequentflier · 09/02/2021 11:03

I so wish those of us who really want it could be pushed up the queue and those who don't could have it later. I understand this can't be done of course for all the right reasons. But I wish it could.

KeepSmiling89 · 09/02/2021 11:03

@Marmite27 - brilliant!

A number of people gave said it already, researchers, doctors, scientists with numerous degrees and years of training have been working on the vaccine for a long time and know their stuff.

People who spend hours on social media trying to convince others of their conspiracy theories are NOT a reliable source of information (unless they are also the professionals I mentioned earlier).

It’s going to be bugging me all day now! Middle aged memory. I’ll probably remember in my sleep at 3 am and sit bolt upright in bed and shout out the name of the programme 😁
If I remember, I’ll come back!

grapewine · 09/02/2021 11:04

@TanginaBarrons

You are very lucky. Count your blessings.
So much this. You're anxious and should get help with that.

Step away from social media and, yes - count your blessings. I wish I had the vaccine.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2021 11:04

So can you answer why a normal trial would take 5 plus years and why this was done in about 18 months and how it could have gone through all the necessary steps in that time ?

This has been answered, here and elsewhere.

Followthelarch · 09/02/2021 11:05

1 bloke takes 6 hours on his own to fix my car

6 blokes take 1 hour to fix my car.

Don't you see? If you throw all the world's resources and money at a problem it will get solved much quicker? Nothing was missed out

They didn't have to wait months for funding, volunteers, lab time, literally everything was made available immediately. Can't you see that? It's a completely different situation to anything that's gone before.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 11:06

Allow me...

So can you answer why a normal trial would take 5 plus years and why this was done in about 18 months and how it could have gone through all the necessary steps in that time ? See my earlier answer. And the various AZ pages, government explanations, BMJ discussions. You don't know me, have no reason to truts me, or any link I provide. But you sound sensible enough to recognise source data when you find it.

Also , can you reassure me it’s safe with some science based evidence ? Yes! MHRA - google again

Also , to my previous question - why can’t we go back and claim if we get long lasting side effects ? Google the PREP Act. You will see quite along list of other vaccines with similar expemtions. You will notice something about all of them!

ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS have been answered by various podium speakers and information is very easily found with a simple search.

Again, I am aware that nothing I type will suffice, nothing I link to will be believed. Find source data yourself. Avoid newspapers and SM accounts.

SimonJT · 09/02/2021 11:06
@InterfectoremVulpes sorry and you do? Why are you more qualified then me ? If we can get a scientist on here I’ll have a listen
Well that isn’t true as when someone has informed you of their expertise you chose to call them a liar.

How did you confirm the qualifications of people you got your information from so far regarding covid vaccines?

Duggeehugs82 · 09/02/2021 11:07

I think a good question is should be get our news/information from mumsnet an anonymous internet forum?

Hubblebubble75 · 09/02/2021 11:07

By the way I’m on no form of social media like Facebook , Twitter , Instagram etc so I’m not just spouting any nonsense on there from conspiracists. I think I’m just speaking for those in doubt .
I’d love to be convinced as I’d rather have this vaccine then not . I appreciate if the scientists on here can alleviate my fears . I then in turn , can perhaps talk to others in my similar boat . Isn’t that better than just telling me to shut up or telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about - okay that solves everything

Duggeehugs82 · 09/02/2021 11:09

Bow do we honestly know anyone is who they say or claim to be even on here? Its shouldn't be automatic,

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 11:09

@Hubblebubble75

Then please re-read my last post. I'll be happy to provide you with links if you want me to. But the facts you need are very easily accessible!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 11:10

@Duggeehugs82

Bow do we honestly know anyone is who they say or claim to be even on here? Its shouldn't be automatic,
Again, see my now second last post...
Suzi888 · 09/02/2021 11:11

If anyone is interested by the end of the week, eight scientific publications about the clinical trials will be publicly available....
Anyone claiming to already know the outcome of any trials quite clearly doesn’t! Confused

Suzi888 · 09/02/2021 11:12

*in the meantime!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 09/02/2021 11:13
@DoubleTweenQueen of course we should - I’ve had all my immunisations and so have my kids - but not rushed out ones , ones that have gone through the regulated development process ( which can take 10 years plus)
Christ alive.

How the hell have you missed all the information on how they have been able to produce this so quickly??

 • money was thrown at it, they didn't have to waste time at every stage begging for funding
 • scientists worldwide have put everything else aside to focus on this.
 • the individual parts of the vaccine had already been approved & are in use in other vaccines (not sure I've worded that correctly)
 • they didn't have to waste time finding places where the virus was present
 • there was no shortage of willing people to join the trials.
 • drugs don't sit around for 10 years waiting to see what happens

Honestly go and read about it, instead of spouting utter nonsense.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 11:13

I may have to set aside the weekend Smile

Hopefully there'll be a thread here to discuss them sensibly and then a bullet point round up of the findings!!

KriekAndWaffle · 09/02/2021 11:15

Oh Jesus.

Step away from idiots on the internet.

If you had it a week ago, chances are you’re not going to have any effects and will be absolutely fine. Covid will be worse for you. Stop reading posts by Facebook wahoos and make sure you get your second dose.

Blubell281 · 09/02/2021 11:15

I work in cell therapies (I'm a lab technician) my colleague is a Q.P which stands for Qualified Person. She is legally responsible for the release of the medicine which we manufacture (autologous cells). She says the vaccine is safe. Believe me when I say she knows her stuff. Highly qualified, very intelligent and actually knows what she's talking about. Don't listen to social media.

thecatisaliveandwell · 09/02/2021 11:15

OP, the vaccine is safe and I am glad that you have had it, because the more people who have it, the better protected we all are.

However, I feel that your problem is not the vaccine itself, but your anxiety. If you have always been an anxious person, then living through this pandemic will make it worse.

Please take this step: Work out how much time a day you spend on social media and use that amount of time to do something else, perhaps an art/craft activity, read a couple of chapters of an uplifting book, bake a cake etc.

Take care of yourself
