Regret having vaccine

Zem74 · 09/02/2021 08:35

Had my vaccine last week, govt classes me as CEV, consultant however said no need to shield as moderate risk, thought I’d be put in group 6 for vaccine rollout.
Got put in with group 4 and was unsure whether to have it or not, but after persuasion from family I did, now I feel full of regret like I’ve made a terrible mistake
I’ll get shot down on here for saying this, but I’ve since read things on social media and the internet that’s making me really panic about how safe this vaccine is/ whether it’s part of a sinister plan etc and I feel so scared that I’ve voluntarily just got myself jabbed with it without thinking it through enoughSad
I’m a mother to young children and these worries are keeping me awake at night since Sad

I work with an immunologist/doctor who trained under Dr Fauci and he has reviewed the protocols & concluded "this vaccine is as good as a vaccine gets."

We are extremely fortunate that modern science can do this in under a year. Millions of lives will be saved. There is no risk. Be grateful.

Please don't undermine the effort by repeating the silly urban legends and propaganda of ignorant and vile people.

Divebar2021 · 09/02/2021 12:17

There was a post on here this week from a lady who’s young, fit brother in law was dying of COVID. His wife was having to take their children to say goodbye in hospital. Now imagine your children coming to say goodbye to you in hospital.

knittingaddict · 09/02/2021 12:17

@ErrolTheDragon

Maybe they are conspiracy theorists or anti vaxxers or ill informed or whatever, but giving them a safe space is making mn no better than fb or other social media that I avoid.

It's not a 'safe space' for them, it's a space where they're liable to receive robust rebuttals from sensible people including quite a lot of scientists.

You're probably right, but I'm sick of it today. There are more and more of them on here recently, or that's how it feels anyway. If I see another faux "should I be worried about the vaccine thread" I think I'll implode.

However I've yet to see any "anti vaccine" person change their mind as a result of facts and science. It seems so pointless.

I admire the people who can come to these threads and debate in a much calmer and more knowledgeable way than I'm managing right now. Thank you.

Whose. Damnit. Lockdown brain

DoubleTweenQueen · 09/02/2021 12:18

I can highly recommend this: www.microbe.tv/twiv/ Vincent Racaniello is a highly esteemed virologist and really nice guy

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 09/02/2021 12:19
@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants I explicitly said I’m not a scientist and don’t know it all If you actually read what you quoted - equally I don’t think everyone on here knows it all - reading ‘facts’ in newspapers.
Some commenters have been very interesting and intelligent and pointed me to sources to read , which are hopefully factual ( can’t really 100% have faith in any source ) I’ll definitely have a read of those this week.
I don’t understand the lynch mob mentality of some people on here when you express doubt ( that yes - rather a lot of people seem to have ) would you rather we live in doubt - rather than see the light. Mentality like this just pushes people underground and won’t help get more people vaccinated
You said you weren't a scientist & didn't know it all...I just agreed, saying that much was perfectly clear.

You weren't expressing any doubt, you were spouting a bunch of nonsense as fact. That is the problem, ask questions & you'll get answers. Spout crap & you'll get told it's crap.

Hubblebubble75 · 09/02/2021 12:21

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants sticks and stones zzzz

Singlenotsingle · 09/02/2021 12:21

What's done is done. You can't change it now, and so many people including me, would like to have had it. So don't be silly.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/02/2021 12:22

Some commenters have been very interesting and intelligent and pointed me to sources to read , which are hopefully factual ( can’t really 100% have faith in any source ) I’ll definitely have a read of those this week. But.... if you can only hope that the studies, research documents are factual and you don't have faith in any source you are leaving yourself in a position of always having doubts, being scared. At some pioint you have to be able to recognise best practice, gold standard research and the best opinions of real experts - who will never say anything is 100% anything anyway!

Please don't turn on Radio 2 t the moment, Jeremy Vine and his shouty crowd will absolutely terrify you!

RedGoldAndGreene · 09/02/2021 12:31

OP - don't get your news from social media. It gives you a false sense of the truth as their algorithms are designed to show you more of what you've clicked on (they get money from each click) Plus there's a lot of opinion presented as fact by people who have watched one YouTube video and think that they are as knowledgeable as professors with decades of studying. These people are very vocal so it's hard to avoid them online but don't forget that they have an agenda too. If they were ill, they would turn up at hospitals expecting treatment which is ironic when they claim that big pharma is a con.

It's a shame that you didn't do your research with a neutral source like a real doctor before your jab but you've had it now. Did you research the side effects that you may have ? Don't be scared - there's actually a thread on here for support if you feel wobbly after a jab.

There are lots of real scientists with proper qualifications and on here that can explain why the vaccine arrived so fast. Normally pharmaceutical companies have to spend a lot of time fund raising for development and that takes time because it's not a risk fee development and they might need billions. With Covid vaccines they pretty much had blank cheques which sped up the process. They went through testing (you can read the details online) and were safer than they could have hoped for. Follow the trail of the science.

You can also Google sites that debunk the conspiracy theories. For example microchips that are smaller than a needle don't exist so you couldn't inject someone with a chip.

HelloThereMeHearties · 09/02/2021 12:43
@HelloThereMeHearties tell me where I have blamed others for scaring me, nothing of the sort. I don’t get what you gain from your comment
You have said that people posting on the internet have scared you about the jab. That is blaming them, is it not?

So I suggested that you take responsibility, and stop looking at what they say.

Lelophants · 09/02/2021 13:11

Op do you know anyone who is a doctor or who works in science? Please listen to them. The doctors I know are ecstatic to get it. And they're fit in their 30s. Remember some people also think the earth is still flat.

You'll be fine, it's so much safer than catching Covid. Speak to your GP, who will be happy to reassure you. Flowers
Teamox · 09/02/2021 14:20

some news reports that people who have had it are dying shortly after

If you visited 100 care homes (pre-covid, obviously!) and gave everyone a homemade cake, then a week later heard that one of the residents in one of the care homes had died, would you assume that you had killed them with your cake, or would you accept that all the the people that you gave a cake to are the most very vulnerable in society (and the closest to death already, for want of a better phrase) and that it was quite inevitable that at least one of them would have died anyway within a week of your good deed?

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 14:26

TBF, if it was a cake I made... 🤔

TheLaughingGenome · 09/02/2021 14:36

I just had my first jab. AZ.

I'm bloody delighted.

AlphaJura · 09/02/2021 18:06

To the OP @Zem74

Please watch this video where the doctor answers people's questions and explains why a lot of fears are just that. Fears. He covers a lot of what some people have been saying abs backs it up with scientific evidence. He even tells you how you can spot misinformation.

stevalnamechanger · 09/02/2021 21:56

Please get a grip . Sorry this is ridiculous . Who takes vaccine advice from social media .

You shouldn't of had it and could have given it to someone else

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2021 22:49

Please get a grip

She got one upthread, and left with it I think.

riveted1 · 09/02/2021 23:25

Personally I think a wall of reassuring responses is much less harmful than threads being removed (which will just stoke anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorists)

OP - you can trust the vaccine. World leaders, scientists and clinicians are all being jabbed as soon as they can. The risk of a harmful side effect low and comparable to any other vaccine (e.g, the flu vaccine is altered every year but you don't hear people panicking about it). The risk of death or long term effects from coronavirus are much higher.

Nellodee · 09/02/2021 23:43

@InterfectoremVulpes

TBF, if it was a cake I made... 🤔
hehehehe
Gabor · 10/02/2021 17:52

I cannot understand why anyone that is hesitant or point blank not wanting to take the vaccine us labelled an " anti-vaxer" it's bizarre. I don't intend on taking the vaccine until I am confident it is safe and at this point I am not.

Given some time my confidence in it may ho and my view may change. They cannot tell us about the long term effects, if any, or impact on fertility, if any, at this time as their simply isn't enough data.

There are other vaccines I have had and will gladly take again if necessary on the basis that their is sufficient data for me to feel confident about it. I am not an anti vaxer just because I don't want this vaccine. That's like saying anyone that doesn't eat lamb is a vegetarian. Nope, they may very well be open to other meats they just choose not to eat lamb.

Do I think there is some conspiracy? No I don't. Do I believe covid really exists? Of course it does. There are many people like me not up for taking the vaccine at this time but doesn't believe its all a con and a total anti vac.

Back to the OP, don't beat yourself up about it.

Admittedly the pandemic is a situation which very few have the experience to deal with but IMO the government have made blunder after blunder. A year on after so many other countries have put tought boarder testing, quarantine measures in place and it's been helping our government a JUST rolling this out now and worse still they will not put their hands up and admit and acknowledge where they got it wrong and learn from their mistakes!

Back to OP don't give yourself a hard time. It's not easy to know what to do for the best.

Sorry for the rant 🙈

Hubblebubble75 · 10/02/2021 18:22

Good luck on here @gabor for not having unquestioning belief in a vaccine which we don’t know the long term effects of. You’re not allowed to have that opinion or any doubt and should be silenced apparently

alwayslearning789 · 10/02/2021 18:28

Rather have it than not have it OPSmile

No point in worrying about it now, you're done.

TheLaughingGenome · 10/02/2021 18:50

I had my 1st AZ jab yesterday morning - I'm fine.
