The old one filled up before we could link a new one but here we are.

Any one ABHB? I’m 30 and would like some advice from my dr about blood clot risk (I’ve previously had treatment for a suspected clot) but after making contact through the delightful econsult system I’ve had a response saying it’s likely to be July before I’m offered a vaccine anyway and to wait and ask again nearer.
Anyone early to mid 30s getting appointments in abhb? Lots of my friends are in the Vale and getting letters!

ImAllOut · 22/04/2021 18:15

I'm Aneurin Bevan and have relatives aged 37 and 38 who've been offered vaccines in the past week, so it's a bit strange that they estimate it won't be offered until July?

Mackers17 · 22/04/2021 18:42

Also abhb here. The youngest I know of so far is 36 so I can't see how it could be that much longer unless there are some major shortages coming.

I suppose that they want to under-promise and over-deliver to avoid embarrassment.

@Wobbitcatcher July sounds odd! Anueran Bevan are already inviting 35-39 so would expect 30-34 to be invited soon.

Wobbitcatcher · 22/04/2021 21:27

@EveLe I looked up the newsletter and read the same. I also looked and the update on the 6th April said letters to 40-49 so 2 weeks after that they are on letters to 35-39 which seems to be happening as other posters have said.

Where do you go for advice on risk then if your GP won’t speak to you. I really don’t want to loose my turn but I also don’t have the medical knowledge to assess my risk Angry

ArosGartref · 22/04/2021 21:40

@wobbitcatcher I'm not a medical professional but I had a blood clot and was subsequently diagnosed with APS which increases the risk of clots. The advice is to have the vaccine. I don't think your GP will be able to tell you anything different.

DdraigGoch · 22/04/2021 21:52

So Drakeford could have a drink in a Wrexham brewery today, yet pubs across North Wales won't be opening until Monday. One rule for some, I see.

Wobbitcatcher · 22/04/2021 21:53

@ArosGartref but if I was 29 with no other factors I’d be offered an alternative to AZ instead I’m just turned 30 with a few risk factors and I don’t ace the medical understanding to understand the difference a few months of age make to me. I don’t want to turn it down, I want to be offered an alternative.

ArosGartref · 22/04/2021 23:00

Sorry, I misread and thought you were mid 30s.

DdraigGoch · 23/04/2021 21:56

20% of the Welsh population have had their second jab.

Great news.

Is anyone else having trouble getting lateral flow tests? Tried 111 twice and for some reason it won't let them process the order. No chemists locally give them out (think this is different to England). Have to drive to a car park in Brecon apparently and collect some - feels a bit furtive, like buying drugs from some dodgy bloke Grin

Sadik · 24/04/2021 10:58

For those worried, one of my friends isn't happy to have AZ (our centre was doing Moderna, but is back to AZ now for the 45-50s).

She talked to the appointment booking line, & when they make the booking apparantly they can see which vaccine it will be. Their (unofficial) advice was to ring every couple of weeks and ask what appointments are available/which vaccine, & then book as and when the desired option is available.

TBH I suspect it balances out as I know people in my age group who didn't want one of the mRNA vaccines and were waiting in the hope of getting AZ!

Sadik · 24/04/2021 10:58

This is Hywel Dda btw, maybe different in other areas

Sadik · 24/04/2021 11:00

My colleague who is 41 was invited for her vaccine today :) They're zipping through!

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2021 11:57

"I know people in my age group who didn't want one of the mRNA vaccines"

Why?

Sadik · 24/04/2021 14:52

If I'm honest I don't actually know, I tend to avoid those sorts of conversations just in case.

Possibly because of the anaphylaxis risk? (If anyone is concerned about this, I have a history of severe allergic reactions, and I felt that it was taken very seriously - they talked through my medical history, & said it was my choice whether to go ahead but to wait for 1/2 hour post vaccine under supervision, or otherwise they'd arrange for me to have the AZ vaccine elsewhere at a later date. I was happy to go ahead as it seemed the risk was very low, and medical attention close at hand in case of reaction. And I was keen to get vaccinated ASAP!!) Or possibly because the AZ is considered a more tried and tested technology? Who knows...

tinytemper66 · 24/04/2021 17:40

I am in a beer garden in England having a pint. I am so excited to be out out.
Disclaimer: visiting my son who lives in Norfolk!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/04/2021 20:51

I am getting fed up waiting for a vaccination invite. 47 year old, asthmatic teacher.

I live in Flintshire. Graphs on BBC Wales declare that Wales has vaccinated over 60% of 40-50 year olds with their first dose.

Flintshire has done 7%.

Betsi also doesn't have an online booking form.

And it has a pre-populated reserve list for them to contact when they have spare doses. Except the local rainbow hospital in Deeside doesn't refer to the list. They've been known to put it out over the tannoy in the local Asda, apparently, to tell people that there are spares instead of contacting the people who are on the list (police/front line workers/teachers etc). My hairdresser has had hers as a lot of the staff are just texting people they know when there are spares and inviting friends and relatives. I know it's better than wasting it, but frustrating nonetheless!

Sadik · 25/04/2021 21:44

That's so frustrating :( Really crap as round here my 41 year old colleague (no additional priority needs) had her appointment letter already, and everyone I know in the 45-50 age group was either end of last week or is set for Monday/ Tuesday. (Pembs/Ceredigion)

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/04/2021 12:39

I rang the booking line this morning because online it said to ring if you were groups 1-9, 40 or over or vulnerable.
They had an appointment for me already booked for 2 weeks time. Yay.

Stopyourhavering64 · 26/04/2021 16:00

BCUHB are now allowing patients in Bangor under 50 to phone for a vaccine appointment at Brailsford centre in Bangor ( not sure about other vaccination centres within BCUHB though)

thevassal · 27/04/2021 13:07

Strange to hear how far apart different health boards/areas are. Cardiff and Vale was behind others at one point but they have now apparently sent appointments to everyone in their thirties and forties and have told 28 and 29 year olds to ring up to book theirs (I think because they have split the centres between those giving AV and those giving pfizer). Friends who are 31,32 have had their appointments for next week in aneurin bevan hb too.

They seem to be going through the younger groups a lot quicker...wonder if more people are not taking up the offer?

tempnamechange98765 · 27/04/2021 14:54

Cardiff and Vale have been ahead for a while I think as my parents were invited to have their jabs right at the beginning of February, both early 60’s, no underlying conditions.

Everyone I know who’s in their early 30’s has now had the jab and I know of some under 30’s to be invited to be vaccinated this week too.
