My little village primary has had no cases at all throughout the whole pandemic (north wales) so we’re feeling very fortunate. DS is in reception and I feel like he’s been very lucky too!

I’d love a Walesnet!

GogCymraeg · 04/07/2021 23:58

Another vote for Walesnet here. This last year has shown that we have different issues and things like education are quite different, so yes please to a Walesnet section.

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 05/07/2021 00:01

I'd love a Welsh section too.

Info on how to get vaccination passports are here: gov.wales/get-nhs-covid-pass-show-your-vaccination-status-travel

tempnamechange98765 · 05/07/2021 18:01

Would love a Wales net!

In Cardiff and the summer holidays can’t come soon enough, DS is in reception, one of the other reception classes is isolating and apparently the whole of the nursery class. Feels like it’s only a matter of time, I just want to get to the end of term a week Friday.

DdraigGoch · 06/07/2021 06:51

It turned out that at Rhyl High School, only one child in each year had tested positive, yet they still sent home the lot.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 06/07/2021 07:23

They are still sending home the entire year for one positive case at my dc’s secondary school.

tempnamechange98765 · 06/07/2021 11:29

Hand on heart, if I got a notification to isolate my son now (as a contact), I don't think I would. I wouldn't take him to clubs/soft play or anything, but I would take him out for walks or on his scooter. He has only had to isolate once, before Christmas, and no one was vaccinated then so obviously we were diligent.

If it happens in the summer holidays (eg at a childcare setting I'm sending him to for a few days) I'm even less likely to follow guidelines as hardly anyone would know anyway.

Am I alone in thinking I'll break these rules? I'm fed up. IMO Wales has handled the pandemic so well, the vaccination programme has been amazing. DH and I are in our 30's and we are fully vaccinated. But, as much as I'm not a Conservative supporter, I now agree that we need a plan as we are being left behind. Isn't it time to put children and young people first, as they're the ones who are missing out?

foxandbee · 06/07/2021 13:05

I don't think we are being left behind temp. I'd say it would be a very sensible move to lag a week or two behind the English gamble (because that is what it is). What we learn in that time can then usefully inform our plans going forward.

I'm fed up too, we all are. But Wales has done so well, I think we need to hold our horses just a little bit longer. it would a shame to chuck that all away just to keep up with populist Johnson.

I would love a Welsh board. Maybe we could call it Draignet.

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 06/07/2021 13:11

Personally I think it makes sense that any changes to schools starts from September but no school should be sending 100+ students home due to 1 case.

We are on holiday next week and there has been a case in another class. I wouldn't blame anyone if they didn't isolate a child who was a close contact tbh. Especially at primary age.

randomlyLostInWales · 06/07/2021 13:24

I'd love a Welsh board as well.

My DC secondary is still sending home entire year groups - they have to do with it a positive LFT then wait on PCR before they know if they have to isolated.

I would like that to change in September so I hope they have some plan to switch to even if it still close contacts or more testing just something less drastic - I'm less bothered by masks.

I'll have two children in exam years - one who's had entire GCSEs disrupted.

Cattaxi · 06/07/2021 17:55

A Welsh board would be great. Not cymnet - sounds wrong to me 🤣 I like draignet

I think we’ve done well here in wales and I’m sure Welsh Labour will continue to play it slow and steady. We are a few weeks behind England in this wave, so a few weeks to see how things play out seems sensible.
I think Boris is being very hasty. We still have loads of people who aren’t fully vaccinated and loads of vulnerable people and children who can’t have the vaccine. I think ending everything in a few weeks is lunacy. Slow and steady always wins the race.
I do hope they review the isolation rules. So many school children impacted by so few cases. There must be a better way. We had to isolate this weekend whilst waiting on a PCR. It did seem like madness that I couldn’t walk my dog in an empty field that day, yet there were thousands at various sporting events!
Are we due a review this week?

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 06/07/2021 18:04

Review is next week. I think a full move to "level 1" with masks and social distancing still mandatory. Potentially looking to remove the mandatory aspect in August if things go ok?

I hope the majority act on the basis that mask wearing is a public health issue rather than a political stance.

Helocariad · 06/07/2021 18:33

I like the sound of Draignet!

Fully opening up now is madness IMO. We're on the bring of fully vaccinating everyone over 18, so why spoil all that.
I'm hoping Welsh Gov will do the sensible thing and masks and social distancing in place and revisit the situation in August.

Helocariad · 06/07/2021 18:35

keep masks and social distancing in place

tempnamechange98765 · 06/07/2021 20:40

The masks element doesn’t bother me hugely, I hate wearing them these days when it’s humid and my skin has been horrendous since they became mandatory. But I really won’t be dying in a ditch over having to wear them in shops etc if it means avoiding other restrictions.

The indoor mixing is what gripes me the most, ie no indoor mixing unless the hugely unrealistic “extended household” nonsense. Wales is the only nation where it’s been illegal to have a play date since March last year. The “rule of 6” has been in place in England and Scotland for a long while now, it must be coming up to two months? But yet here we are still apparently not allowed a single other person in our houses who isn’t in an extended household. That needs to change, it’s so ignorant to think that many people are actually sticking to this. I think I know two people who have and they are both huge rule sticklers.

I don’t see any huge changes coming on the 15th and that depresses me hugely. We’ve had no meaningful changes since May.

AlohaMolly · 06/07/2021 21:49

I thought we were allowed to have people in our gardens?

tempnamechange98765 · 06/07/2021 21:59

Yes in our gardens, woop de bloody do.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 07/07/2021 08:16

I think England are now going for herd immunity and it’s a dangerous strategy. No other country has gone down this route.
Especially as there is now a strain that is vaccine resistant.

However, I also don’t know that time is going to make this any safer. It’s perhaps something we have no choice in and I don’t know what the answer is.

randomlyLostInWales · 07/07/2021 13:51

Covid antibodies estimated for 91.8% of adults in Wales

Nearly 92% of adults in Wales now have antibodies to help protect them against Covid-19, the latest blood sample survey suggests.

Two-thirds of young people under 25 now have antibodies, up from just over half a month ago, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates.

It takes samples to find out how many people have antibodies, indicating vaccination or having had Covid.

It does look like Wales is in a better position then rest of UK -so hopefully restrictions can be eased at least by Setember for schools. Though we'd also like to have guests overnight - family in England- which I don' think we're currently allowed.

Gracesquirrel · 07/07/2021 17:49

You can have overnight guests now if they are in your extended household and we are allowed 2 of those so 3 households altogether - theres even a 4th one allowed if its a single adult household or other limited exceptions.

gov.wales/gathering-other-people-current-restrictions#section-67343

You can also change your extended households (they don't like it but it is allowed) provided both households leave a 10 day gap before forming the new one.

randomlyLostInWales · 07/07/2021 18:48

Gracesquirrel - thanks we'll have to look again at restrictions.

DH was sure we couldn't have them over - they are both double vaccinated as are we -and I'm thinking if we don't see them in summer then when -as it will be exams again for the older two.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/07/2021 20:37

YY to Draignet! Daffodil

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 07/07/2021 21:20

Another vote for Draignet. Who do we have to contact to ask about getting it set up?

Gracesquirrel · 07/07/2021 22:42

I've posted in sitestuff asking for a Wales forum
