Endless Propaganda

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

Totally agree !

MynephewR · 23/01/2021 17:38

Completely agree OP. It's terrible.

2020BogOff · 23/01/2021 17:39

It's scary how totally one sided the news is atm.

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 17:40

And it's so transparent! How can it even work? Angry

I turn it off without watching. Load of shite.

Nellodee · 23/01/2021 17:43

I want alternative facts.

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 17:49

Just a hint of critical thought would be appreciated.

Yes, sensible news stories fine but the other day I saw one which was 'Mary Berry says people shouldn't question the vaccine' I mean that's not even news

Emmie2021 · 23/01/2021 17:50

The world has gone mad - news reports calling a 98 year old in a care home dying a tragedy

This.

No sense of perspective at all.

I used to enjoy getting an alternative view from a social media platform. I didn't go to deeply into it, it just made me feel better to have a light hearted different view point. But any alternative views have been shut down, so it's nothing but the same narrative. I belive the narrative we are being given, but I have always enjoyed listening to other people's viewpoints and looking at different ideas but even that's been taken away now.

PicsInRed · 23/01/2021 17:56

There was one on the radio the other day "if you bend the rules, people will die..." It was such an obvious lie I actually told the radio to fuck off it resolutely remained where it was.

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/01/2021 17:57

I don't watch the news and haven't for ages.

The 'if you go out, people will die' posters are also grim, as they're not true for one. The chances of actually killing someone by going outside for a walk are slim to none. Treats us like impressionable children.

Emmie2021 · 23/01/2021 17:58

They had on our local news a story of a105 year old woman being vaccinated just after surviving Covid

Amazing woman but also didn’t understand why she needs the vaccine if she just had the actual cv . Mad

Januaryissodull · 23/01/2021 17:59

Agree.

I have stopped watching the news other than on a need to know basis. It's totally one sided.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/21/government-discontinue-covid-ad-accusing-joggers-exercising/

This is behind a pay wall, but the gov have been rapped by the Advertising Standards Authority for some ads that will now be discontinued.

The ones saying that joggers are likely to have covid, a radio ad.

A Government advert that says joggers and dog-walkers are "highly likely" to have Covid is to be discontinued after the regulator said there was no evidence to support the claim.

'The Telegraph can reveal that the Cabinet Office has also agreed not to repeat the claim made in the 30-second radio ad – which also warns that "people will die" if individuals "bend the rules" – after being contacted by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).'

Candidamelena · 23/01/2021 18:04

Agree re trying to blackmail us emotionally.

Why should Young healthy people’s lives be curtailed for the sake of a virus that kills barely anyone apart from the over 80s. Why can’t people be trusted to take responsibility and use their common sense ?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the so called patients in the new ad were just actors.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 23/01/2021 18:07

The new "look them in the eye" ads are something else. How about the government look people in the eye and tell them they didn't want to pay people enough to isolate?

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2021 18:08

It’s getting so transparent now it’s utterly counter productive.

BasiliskEgg · 23/01/2021 18:09

I agree up to a point but I also think the general public have got to take a bit more responsibility for actually reading things properly before panicking

The amount of people who take a headline or a small media soundbite and get worked into a frenzy based on that is preposterous.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 23/01/2021 18:09

@TheKeatingFive

I agree. It’s going to go badly wrong for the government as people become more and more exhausted and disenfranchised with the constant scaremongering and propaganda
IcedPurple · 23/01/2021 18:09

I can't stand the 'Stay at home' (or similar) slogan in the top corner of the screen, like C4 and some other channels have.

Firstly, if I'm watching TV chances are pretty high that I am, in fact, at home. Secondly, what qualifies them to tell people what to do? I watch TV to be entertained, not admonished.

After a year of this being explained, how do people still not realise why this wouldn't work Confused
