Would you go abroad in May?

Assuming lockdown is lifted and flights resume would you go abroad in May for a holiday?
Or would you wait until you've been vaccinated before travelling abroad for a Holiday?
We are booked for May and have to pay a large balance soon just don't know what to do whether to re book and when for?! Or pay the balance and see if it goes ahead, but then I don't know if I would feel comfortable going away with things like they are right now and not being vaccinated.
Thoughts please?

I think May is rather hopeful, and there's a good chance it won't happen. Would you lose your money? Have you got insurance that would cover cancellation for any covid related reasons?

If we re book now we won't loos any money. But if we really book within 12 weeks of the date we are supposed to go it would be treated as a cancellation and we would loose our money. If it went ahead then we would be expected to go.

We had a trip to Italy cancelled last may and rescheduled for this may. If we can go, we are going.

TransplantedScouser · 20/01/2021 16:49

Yes. If i can I’d be first on the plane!

You will have to run faster than me to be first on the plane Grin
Oddbutnotodd · 20/01/2021 16:57

No I wouldn’t. We’ll barely be back into tiers by then.

SonjaMorgan · 20/01/2021 17:09

No. I can't imagine having a nice holiday whilst covid measures are still in place. But we wouldn't be able to stretch our finances anyway seeing as Sunak has still made no provisions for all of us who are excluded from any financial support.

Thismustbelove · 20/01/2021 17:14

One in fifty people in the UK have a highly transmitted virus. This is why the virus is spreading. Stay at home. This mindset of 'holidays' in the middle of a pandemic is mind boggling.

CoronaIsWatching · 20/01/2021 17:15

Well I went abroad last summer so definitely would this summer

atomt · 20/01/2021 17:21

Would you be able to quarantine 5-10 days afterwards if you had to?

I think flights/holidays may be possible but the quarantine measures won't be dropped that soon with new variants emerging in different countries... there is a German variant now too.

Pipandmum · 20/01/2021 17:21

Doubt you will be able to travel without a vaccine so soon, and at the very least it looks like you will have to have a negative test result within 72 hours of flying and that is hard to arrange. I really don't think anyone should contemplate going through an airport any time soon. We are hoping to go to Spain in July but I'm certainly not booking anything yet.

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2021 17:22

No, I can’t see things being normal enough by then.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/01/2021 17:23

Well you’ll get the ‘STAY THE FUCK HOME’ brigade out in force over this 🙄 but yes, if it’s allowed in May half term I bloody am going on holiday.

I’ve worked (as in, commuted to my workplace as normal) throughout this with minimal time off, I’ve followed every rule and seen no family, no, not even at Christmas. By late May 2021 I definitely hope things will have improved enough for some travel.

Iamclearlyamug · 20/01/2021 17:23

Another saying I’d beat u all to be first on the plane 😃😃

Suzi888 · 20/01/2021 17:29

I messaged Thomas cook and asked if I would need to be vaccinated? and their response was ‘we don’t know’. Will I need to isolate in the country I’m travelling to? ‘We don’t know’. I’m not risking it.

Thismustbelove · 20/01/2021 17:29

You might be better off spending your money in the UK. Between covid and Brexit, nobody is going to go to the UK on holiday anytime soon and fewer still want UK visitors in their country.

smoothchange · 20/01/2021 17:31

It's a bit of an odd question tbh. The answer depends not just on our restrictions but also those of the country you are visiting, which you haven't mentioned?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/01/2021 17:31

If it is allowed then yes I would. I'd be happy to do anything that we are permitted to do.

Notmoreuodates5 · 20/01/2021 17:32

I would book for May then consider re booking if needs be. I think a lot of people had to re book last year in order to go away.

I think vaccines will be well underway by May.

I’m booked for May as the holiday was booked before the pandemic.

Hoppinggreen · 20/01/2021 17:33

I’m due to go to an overseas conference in May, if I can go I sure as hell will

IcedPurple · 20/01/2021 17:34

If it were allowed, I'd be on the plane in a flash! I miss travel desperately.

Robbybobtail · 20/01/2021 17:35

I will if it’s allowed but will wait and book last minute.

How so? My question is whether you would risk going abroad so soon after lockdown which is irrelevant of where we are going. It's to Tenerife anyhow 🙂

If you can rebook now with no financial penalty then I would rebook. I think you need to be realistic. If you can go you will likely need to pay for a negative PCR test for you and your family before you fly. You will then need to pay for a negative PCR test abroad before you fly home. You will then probably need to self isolate for ten days when you return home (with the possible option to pay for a PCR test on day 5). PCR tests are about £80-100 per person so that will soon add up. There is no way in my mind that these restrictions (negative PCR tests and isolation etc) will be relaxed by mind. I'd rebook for May 2022 or August 21 if desperate and it has to be school holidays or I'd book a UK holiday for May (and keep fingers crossed for that).

pommedeterre · 20/01/2021 17:37

I am hoping to have a UK family holiday in May.

I hope to be back to at least organising business trips abroad by May.

We're all creating our own timelines of hope! I don't think I'll be planning family holidays abroad until 2022.
