Would you go abroad in May?

Assuming lockdown is lifted and flights resume would you go abroad in May for a holiday?
Or would you wait until you've been vaccinated before travelling abroad for a Holiday?
We are booked for May and have to pay a large balance soon just don't know what to do whether to re book and when for?! Or pay the balance and see if it goes ahead, but then I don't know if I would feel comfortable going away with things like they are right now and not being vaccinated.
Thoughts please?

That and another really horrific winter if this thread is anything to judge by @dingledongle

maddiemookins16mum · 20/01/2021 17:57

No. We’re still debating November 😟

Roselilly36 · 20/01/2021 17:58

May? I don’t even feel confident to book for Dec!

changedmynamelol · 20/01/2021 18:02

No. No country will allow us in the UK to enter.

StopTheTrainWantToGetOff · 20/01/2021 18:03

@EloraaDanan

“If we can go we will: We have both had covid One of us has been vaccinated and the other should have been by then”

You know neither of those points mean a lot right? There’s no way of telling yet whether you have lasting immunity from having had COVID and nobody knows if you can still transmit the virus after you’ve had the vaccine. If you’ve both had your second dose by May, you will have been very lucky.

I guess it doesn’t matter though if you’re only worried about yourself.

We have regular immunity testing (part of a programme)

One person has had 2 doses already.

One person is terminally ill- so yes we are thinking about ourselves and a last chance to see relatives- sorry.

redsquirrelfan · 20/01/2021 18:03

Well I would certainly like to go somewhere but as I am under 50, it's highly unlikely that I will have been able to have a vaccine in time to be let on a plane.

salmonskinjerky · 20/01/2021 18:04

For those planning to go on holiday May/June, I'm curious to know...

Have you considered how unnecessary international travel could prolong and worsen the whole debacle by bringing new strains into the country? We don't know what country the next 'mutant' virus will pop up in, and it might be one that evades the current vaccines.

DawnAnn · 20/01/2021 18:07

No, I personally wouldn't risk it. I'm not planning on any holidays this year given the situation with Covid. Hoping to have a holiday abroad in 2022 if things improve but won't be booking it anytime soon.

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 18:07

Well then Salmon we should just stay restricted forever so because Covid is here to stay.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 20/01/2021 18:11

No.

We’re fretting about a holiday booked for October.

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 18:11

@EloraaDanan

Yes Elora because the virus was only here a month or so last year. Did you notice that all countries around the world had very few cases in the summer? It is already estimated that in London at least one in 8 have antibodies add that to the fact the virus is peaking now and vaccinations have started the cases will have dropped massively by May.

Notmoreuodates5 · 20/01/2021 18:12

@salmonskinjerky I don’t view it an unnecessary. While ever the government leave the borders open people will travel if possible. It also generates money and jobs. Otherwise all the holiday shops would be going bust.

There’s nothing to say the vaccine will work.

Delatron · 20/01/2021 18:16

We have a trip booked from last May that moved to this May.

I think the quarantine on return will be the sticking point.

I think the summer holidays you’ve more chance. I’m thinking if we can get away it’s worth going for at least 2-3 weeks if we have to quarantine in return. But if I can get on a plane and it’s legal I will.

We managed last July.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 20/01/2021 18:17

You can both get behind me because you won't see my ass for dust. I'll chase a plane down the runway if needs be.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 20/01/2021 18:18

Note to self. Refresh page before posting to avoid looking stupid.

Delatron · 20/01/2021 18:19

I’m also banking on the seasonal element of this virus as per last year.

The pressure on the NHS is less in the summer too.

gallbladderpain · 20/01/2021 18:25

You do realise that arrivals into a lot of countries even with a negative PCR (paid for privately of course) still have to self isolate. So you would spend your holiday self isolating in an apartment to return to the UK to further self isolation ! To be honest I can't see that as being something that will have been done away with by May while all these countries are trying to vaccinate as many people as they can.
I will actually be very shocked if that's happening in May given it seems this current period of restrictions is likely to be extended to potentially April but I do see a window of opportunity for travel abroad over the summer (July/August)

ProfessorPootle · 20/01/2021 18:27

We’re in the same situation except our holiday is 31st March to Orlando. Virgin have moved the balance payment date to 3rd feb, I’ve tried to change dates to 2022 but none of the hotels are available yet. If we booked other hotels for next year they said they may be able to swop them over at a later date but no refund as it’ll be a whole new booking. Can pay full amount now but then will be stuck with a voucher, they’re a nightmare to get a refund from. Think we’re just gonna lose our deposit for a holiday that they will cancel eventually.

GintyMcGinty · 20/01/2021 18:29

Assuming lockdown is lifted and flights resume would you go abroad in May for a holiday? Or would you wait until you've been vaccinated before travelling abroad for a Holiday?

Yes I absolutely would. We managed to fit in a holiday to the Canaries in November before the rules changed again and it was the best thing I did all year.

We are booked for May and have to pay a large balance soon just don't know what to do whether to re book and when for?! Or pay the balance and see if it goes ahead, but then I don't know if I would feel comfortable going away with things like they are right now and not being vaccinated.

If you don't pay the balance you will lose your deposit. If the holiday is not permitted to go ahead you will be able to rebook or get a refund.

BeaSmithers · 20/01/2021 18:30

Yes. Absolutely. I have a holiday booked for May. However, I don't think it will happen. Very likely to be cancelled before then.

santanddec · 20/01/2021 18:35

No, I wouldn't travel for a holiday- the 'covid secure' regulations would make it a pain in the arse e.g. social distancing, constant sanitising, masks everywhere etc...I don't see the point in spending money to do this elsewhere. Then there is the likelihood of having to get tested before travelling away and coming back to the UK plus any potential quarantine etc...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/01/2021 18:35

@changedmynamelol

No. No country will allow us in the UK to enter.
Not true. People are still going abroad right now. I know someone who got back at the weekend.

Lovely. All the more reason for people to hop on a plane so. Some people's stupidity never fails to disappoint.

Thismustbelove · 20/01/2021 18:56

Have you considered how unnecessary international travel could prolong and worsen the whole debacle by bringing new strains into the country?

You are asking some alarmingly selfish people to be logical. They are so busy thinking they don't give a fck about spreading it to others that they really don't give a fuck about making the UK situation worse.
