Would you go abroad in May?

Assuming lockdown is lifted and flights resume would you go abroad in May for a holiday?
Or would you wait until you've been vaccinated before travelling abroad for a Holiday?
We are booked for May and have to pay a large balance soon just don't know what to do whether to re book and when for?! Or pay the balance and see if it goes ahead, but then I don't know if I would feel comfortable going away with things like they are right now and not being vaccinated.
Thoughts please?

Most of Europe well behind UK on vaccinations. Spain and Greece have both put forward a case to the EU for vaccine passports. UK government refusing to consider that atm for many reasons.
I don’t think there will be much foreign travel this summer.

GingerNorthernLass · 20/01/2021 22:02

No, I wouldn't. You are being very optimistic.

norwegianwoodpecker · 02/02/2021 08:24

I think the probability is that you'll need to isolate upon arrival on your holiday. And isolate upon return.

Whilst I've missed my European holidays this past year, I'll be holidaying in the UK this summer. It's a safer bet (weather aside)

meduskuka · 02/02/2021 09:19

No, I wont travel for holiday. But I might travel in August to my home country for a medical treatment. Can easily isolate on arrival and return, and even if charged 1500£ for quarantine in Uk- it is still going to be way cheaper if I go privately in UK. But I really hope to avoid that trip.

Brunt0n · 02/02/2021 09:20

Our May holiday has just been cancelled by the airline 😣 They are now not flying to that destination until June at the earliest...

AlecTrevelyan006 · 02/02/2021 09:24

No - not because of concern about catching/spreading Covid but simply because it’s likely to be a complete faff and really not worth the hassle.

I’ve booked a few days in Cornwall last week of April that’s about as a risk as I’m willing to take at the moment

Worldgonecrazy · 02/02/2021 09:27

I know you won’t be first on the plane because that will be me - and I hate flying so normally go last.

If we can go, we will be going. We are fully covered if it gets cancelled.

If no one books a holiday this year, I wonder how many holiday companies will actually be around next year?

peak2021 · 02/02/2021 09:29

I would re-book. The issue may be getting into your destination country more than here.

CarryOnPlainHunting · 02/02/2021 09:30

No. I couldn’t face the hassle and stress of wondering what might or might not happen.

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2021 09:32

No because the situation is so changeable

PregnantGotCovid · 02/02/2021 09:36

As much as I'd love to go somewhere warm soon, I don't feel comfortable with the idea of getting on a plane. When foreign holidays were allowed last year, we stayed in the uk for the same reason. I'm really missing our annual warm holiday.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/02/2021 09:43

I can’t imagine many countries wanting our Kent variant, and if there are other variants in other countries we won’t want them eg look what they are having to do in respect of the South African variant.

Mudmudingloriousmud · 02/02/2021 09:44

I am just hoping I can go away in UK for May but who knows.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 02/02/2021 09:47

Yes we would go if it was allowed, depended on where and type of accommodation etc. However I don't think the will be possible and I wouldn't be paying any money right now.

PuzzledObserver · 02/02/2021 09:49

I would, but then DH and I have both had Covid and should be vaccinated by then, so little to no worry about either taking it with us or bringing a new variant home.

I wouldn’t if it meant hotel quarantine on return.

But I won’t anyway this May because I’m retiring in July. We might go in September/October, on a late booking probably.

VegemiteIsToasty · 02/02/2021 09:51

No wonder your death rate is so high, how stupid.

tatutata · 02/02/2021 09:51

No. Your reception by the locals is likely to be very frosty and I can't see quarantine on return being lifted until July.

Bluethrough · 02/02/2021 10:05

As long as there is Covid they'll be variants, if as it appears, vaccinations reduce serious illness, that may be all we'll get.

Vaccinations take us out of this nightmare and the UK needs to be part of any (yet to be announced) eu wide vaccine passport scheme or it'll be years before we can go abroad.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/02/2021 10:10

I think there will probably be a vaccine passport but it is too early for that to be implemented. For once we are leading the field (in Europe anyway) for vaccinations but not every adult is going to have had their vaccinations by May.

I assume next year may see the introduction of vaccine passport

ringadingringadingringading

Your 4 yr old has never been on a plane ? Hmm Oh well then, you just have to go 🤦

MaxNormal · 02/02/2021 10:27

I'm going as soon as allowed, ie destination country allows me in and no requirement for hotel quarantine on return. I didn't go last summer and bitterly regret it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/02/2021 10:37

I have a holiday in Italy booked carrier forward from last year. I can’t see it happening. Italy has hardly vaccinated anyone.

They don’t want us bringing in our various strains, or us carrying theirs out of the country.

I’ve just booked a cottage in Bamber for a week in the summer as a precaution. But l don’t think foreign travel will happen.

transformandriseup · 02/02/2021 10:54

We have a holiday abroad in May that was originally booked in 2019. If it's cancelled again it wouldn't bother me but if it can go ahead then we will go.

Weallfloatdownhere · 02/02/2021 11:01

I would def go abroad in May to somewhere with no quarantine requirements, and no requirement to isolate in a hotel upon return. I did the 2 weeks home isolation last year after a trip abroad, it was boring but bearable.

Blondiney · 02/02/2021 11:07

No, my wants are not that important in the great scheme of things.
