Would you go abroad in May?

Assuming lockdown is lifted and flights resume would you go abroad in May for a holiday?
Or would you wait until you've been vaccinated before travelling abroad for a Holiday?
We are booked for May and have to pay a large balance soon just don't know what to do whether to re book and when for?! Or pay the balance and see if it goes ahead, but then I don't know if I would feel comfortable going away with things like they are right now and not being vaccinated.
Thoughts please?

People can choose to stay at home if they wish.

If we are allowed to travel many will. Nice dose of vitamin D, boost to mental health. Escape from screens. Etc etc.

Katjolo · 20/01/2021 20:01

No

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/01/2021 20:02

I can’t see the enjoyment to be gained not to mention we know don’t if borders will be open, whether we need vaccines, quarantine etc.

The worry about picking up or bringing back the virus or a new variant, masks, distancing, not wanting to eat in public places etc would not feel like any sort of break.

I’d rather wait until it’s safe and have a few in the same year.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2021 20:04

I don’t blame people for wanting to go but I am wondering what is in store long term as we all fly around the world re new variants

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2021 20:04

And I know it’s not really possible to not travel long term but it feels like two really big opposing issues

Katie517 · 20/01/2021 20:12

Yes I would get on a plane tonight if I could and am also hoping to be out of here in May! No offense to those that enjoy UK holidays but I am so done with this country at the moment!

DietingAgain · 20/01/2021 20:29

@namechangefail2020 it's been cancelled by Jet2.

AnyFucker · 20/01/2021 20:35

My 3rd time lucky holiday (originally booked pre Covid) is scheduled for early May.

< sigh >

PanamaPattie · 20/01/2021 20:39

I wouldn't go even if I had the chance. 2023 maybe.

FreshFreesias · 20/01/2021 20:41

I honestly don’t think politicians will remove lockdowns for years.
They are even saying after the vulnerable have been vaccinated restrictions will stay.
Bit of a gamble planning anything.

sabrinathemiddleagewitch · 20/01/2021 20:41

We have a holiday booked for Europe in mid May. Bounced over from last year.
If it goes ahead we're going, need the break and have both worked the entire pandemic as normal, zero time off.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/01/2021 20:42

YEARS?! I don’t think so. That is in no way even remotely sustainable Hmm

middleager · 20/01/2021 20:43

No chance!

Namechange8471 · 20/01/2021 20:44

If i wasn't pregnant (due June) then yes I'd go for it!

EileenGC · 20/01/2021 20:45

I would go if restrictions were lifted and it was allowed. I have absolutely no idea if that will happen by May. Maybe yes, maybe no.

There's no way vaccines will be a pre-requisite for getting on plane this summer, as it's impossible to make that a condition for travel when most of the population don't yet have access to it.

Wait and see, there isn't much else to do.

Girlyracer · 20/01/2021 20:46

Not chance. Too much uncertainty. Even if you can go, wearing a mask everywhere. Not my idea of a holiday. I'd rather save the money and wait fir a good blow out holiday.

MaxNormal · 20/01/2021 20:52

God yes if they'll let us in. I'm going to be straight on the ferry from Dover as soon as France let's me in.

middleager · 20/01/2021 21:02

Saga Holidays are making it a prerequisite that cruise ship passengers have two vaccinations

Figgygal · 20/01/2021 21:06

Nope to a holiday i just don’t see how restrictions will be sufficiently lifted to not impact and can’t see them as a priority in a pandemic

I am hoping to fly to family on other side of country though may half term will have been 18 months since Been home by then - 18 months since seen my mum, since she’s seen her grandkids

inquietant · 20/01/2021 21:09

No, I am.personally waiting until things are more settled. May isn't really far away, and things are looking really rather shit at the moment.

U8myufo · 20/01/2021 21:22
@U8myufo yes I do. But risk is every where and after the UK shit show I don’t think many places are doing as bad as us in terms of poor organisation. We can’t wait on Borris to get his act together we would never leave the house.
This is very true. Could be waiting forever!

Saga holidays are for over 50s and cruise ships are infection hot beds. I don't think other tour operators will be as strict until the vaccine is widely available to all.

Delatron · 20/01/2021 21:34

Years 🤣. I’ve read some daft things on this site...

Zogstart · 20/01/2021 21:41

We have something booked for may half term which is actually the first week of June. This has been pushed back from 2020 and was originally booked in 2019. Would I like to go - hell yes! Do I think we will be allowed ? -50/50 in my mind right now.

Defenbaker · 20/01/2021 21:54

No, far too soon. Even if you manage to get vaccinated before going, you can't be sure you'd be protected against the various mutant viruses going around in other countries. Also, our health crisis will probably be over then, but other countries might be in crisis mode and I wouldn't fancy being in hospital abroad, even if the insurance covered it. Try to rebook it for the autumn, then maybe you can look forward to it, without fear.
