Did Boris actually just do that?

So did Boris emphasise on TV at the weekend that's schools were safe, then pressure parents and staff to attend school today only to lock everyone down from tonight abs shut schools as part of it? Send everyone in to mingle for a pointless day. Wtaf.

Is this leadership? I am struggling to think of how he could be more indecisive and incompetent.

Is there a means through which a PM can be removed?

@ Carrotpuff - yes we had to!

Ant1966 · 04/01/2021 23:30

Lozza. A lot of Primary schools went back, my wife's included. For those of you that are asking if it will be possible to quantify the impact (in terms of additional cases / deaths) of the 1 day back after Xmas hols. I believe that might be possible, yes. Mainly because the DFE rules for LAs that should, and should not, open Primaries today had so much overlap in terms of case rates. We should be able to track these groups over the next few weeks and see what happens.

@cyclingmad

I do find this forum quite amusing because past few days sits been like shut the schools I don't want my child to get covid and now they will turn and now its going to be omg my child's education is being ruined and what will happen to my poor children their lives are destroyed.

🙄

I agree....the loony lefties on here just need something to moan at ALL THE TIME...
ChristmasCovid · 04/01/2021 23:33

@littlemisslozza

Most schools would have had INSET today surely? I don't know any that actually went back in my entire county.
All the primary schools in my town were back today tier 4 - total fuck up.
ClaireP20 · 04/01/2021 23:34

"Whatamesssss"

I suspect you would find fault in absolutely everything....

Of course you would have done better than our PM...you clearly have the benefit of hindsight Confused

LittleMimi · 04/01/2021 23:36

Well the incompetent government is very good at supplying material to moan about.

NotSoHappyNewTier · 04/01/2021 23:38

@Benjispruce2

Keyworker children can go to school!!!!!!!
But not tomorrow !!!!!!!

Tier 4 here and all back today

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/01/2021 23:38

Lol at hindsight. Literally everybody except the government predicted the results of most of the errors the government made.

PeoplePleaser57 · 04/01/2021 23:39

@SoscaredforJan

I feel sorry for the parents and grandparents who will die in 4 weeks now because their child went back to school for ONE DAY
I feel so angry about this.

Tier 4 here, in all day today too.

Closed tomorrow to everyone including keyworker and vulnerable.

Fucking disgrace.

Not hindsight, just common sense.

Again someone name one thing they did right.

littlemisslozza · 04/01/2021 23:41

Wow. Amazed that lots have gone back today as it is traditionally an INSET day here and therefore not an issue. Total madness.

NotSoHappyNewTier · 04/01/2021 23:43

@wellitr

He is incompetent and negligent at best.

Every poor kid that was fairly safe having been off for the last 2 weeks without mixing has been subjected to completely unnecessary risk today as have their poor teachers. For what? One day of education? He knew this yesterday. It is shameful that he has exposed so many to risk.

He and his useless government are entirely culpable for the poor sods who will be infected and die because of that one day

Also still no provision for working parents. No I don't want to be furloughed because I have children, that puts me directly in the redundancy line. Alternative is I will work all day and night whilst my kids run feral..

What a shit show

But they don’t even gain a day of education because they are now closed to everyone tomorrow!

Interesting you find it amusing. Do you have school age children?

Is it really a surprise parents want children to be educated safely? I find it interesting that the Government didn't allow any of the things that could have made schools safer educational environments (masks, rotas to allow smaller groups to distance) despite teachers requesting them, all they offered was Tier4 (stay at home but go to school) and now schools out for weeks or months. Now schools are working remotely yes of course people want that to be effective and of course thats going to be hard for parents also working from home. Wellbeing becomes a bigger issue when children are not allowed to mix with any friends.

Or is it all such a roll eyes non issue?

SweetMeadow · 04/01/2021 23:48

What really concerns me is that this government and their appalling management of this pandemic has been disastrous and each time we discuss it on here but then soon after the event, the ridiculousness of the situation seems to dissipate and we forget the detail. I guess it’s because there have been so many dreadful and unbelievable mistakes made that we have to quickly move on but somehow we need to capture these each in our memory to make sure this government is held accountable and that there isn’t any white washing of the past.

Scarby9 · 04/01/2021 23:52

Most primaries in my area had children in school today. Some had followed govt guidance to swap their Jan4 training day to Dec 18.

WhenPidgeonsCry · 04/01/2021 23:55

Anyone who thinks the UK government has done the best it could throughout this pandemic (since this is just the latest in long line of clownish decisions) either

a) pays no attention to anything going on outside England, because if they did they'd see that most governments have done better than Boris and the Tories despite facing the same dire situation
b) is too emotionally invested in the Tories to consider that they could ever make mistakes

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/01/2021 23:56

@ClaireP20 I agree....the loony lefties on here just need something to moan at ALL THE TIME...

That will be the general UK public on here understandably complaining about yet another avoidable Government cock up.

Cecillie · 04/01/2021 23:57

Surely both camps (shut schools, don’t shut schools ) can unite against the monumental stupidity of shutting schools with no notice, one day after sending 1000s of kids back to mingle for a day.
Absolutely nothing has changed between Sunday morning, when he was on tv and tonight. Could have announced this then, rather than this spectacular own goal.
Zero excuse for this Boris .

One thing that has changed is that some children have gone in, less than 2 weeks after mixing at Christmas (and in some areas, it was allowed to mix) and mixed with other children. Lunacy.

MushMonster · 05/01/2021 00:21

That! One day all together! Now back home. Please spread it to all your bubbles, all the ones needed to provide childcare at last minute.

RedToothBrush · 05/01/2021 00:36

Our school was shut today - email went out at 4.30pm yesterday. Key workers and vulnerable children did go in.

Head emailed at 2pm to say the school would be open tomorrow.

Then Johnson dropped the bombshell. Got a text from school. School now shut again. It arrived after 11pm. Key worker and vulnerable children can go in.

The head has been nothing short of heroic after being shat on from great height by the government. She's worked Sunday, all day today and then worked tonight.

I bet she's done more bloody work this week than that lazy arse at No10.

It certainly proves Johnson doesn't give two shiny shits about the well being of those kids.

If there is one thing worse than closing the schools, its opening the schools for one day, fucking with the kids heads, exposing them to potentially getting covid off their mates so they can generously share it around, and then deciding that oh no thats it lets close the schools.

It does deserve a special slow hand clap.

Dddccc · 05/01/2021 00:43

Regarding the ppe where ther hell was he ment to order it from it was being used quicker then being made,

Where would all the extra NHS staff come from and they cant fill the nightingale hospitals full of covid patients as there is no staff.
No company would have been able to get the track and trace up that fast.

Locking down 2 weeks earlier would have the same amount of ppl kicking off and ignoring rules over Xmas.

Closing the airports and stopping flights would have cost the UK billions and tons of extra legal battles. And owe would pay for it us.

And remote learning will never be any good for a lot of students as its harder to learn in a home environment so no matter what it would never be suitable.
