Did Boris actually just do that?

So did Boris emphasise on TV at the weekend that's schools were safe, then pressure parents and staff to attend school today only to lock everyone down from tonight abs shut schools as part of it? Send everyone in to mingle for a pointless day. Wtaf.

Is this leadership? I am struggling to think of how he could be more indecisive and incompetent.

Is there a means through which a PM can be removed?

My thoughts are.. ok so its sh1t hes done this tonight but when should he have done it... new years eve??? The day before? Put everyone on a downer? I think this was kinder, and one day at school for the kids could work as a test to see if it is the kids that are the SUPER SPREADERS" or the idiot adults with responsibility over their actions who are not taking this shit seriously... i know who i would go for.. i dont care if i get hounded it is what it is, these are my thoughts. Having a day tomarrow to sort out childcare or key worker /vulnerable spaces or at least the week isnt going to end up in parents with a hefty fine. People were on about not sending their children in anyway! We have to adapt to the situation we are in no matter what, moaning about it anit gonna help please out your energy into getting trough this best you can. Whats the other option???

LangClegsInSpace · 04/01/2021 22:59

but when should he have done it.

How about December 22 when SAGE told him to?

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/01/2021 23:00

This has been on the cards a while. I’m surprised you didn’t see it coming.

It’s obvious the party follow popular opinion on sites like this. You called for a lockdown with schools closed and it happened.

Dddccc · 04/01/2021 23:01

You do all realise he is 1 man that has the world on his shoulders and he is cant do right for wrong over 200 ppl make these decisions not just him its every mp every specialist involved. Most schools didn't open today my ds school was going to open tomorrow, all those saying I could do a better job really what would you have done differently? That would not fully bring the UK to its knees his biggest fuck up was xmas no one should have mixed and we didn't the stats are because ppl don't follow rules or have mixed 🙄, I really hoped schools would stay open as my ds need an education not ppl saying well he will catch up, why should he have to and he also will never catch up unless they hold kids back a full year, as 8 more week of lockdown will turn to after Easter then after summer all over again

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/01/2021 23:01

How about December 22 when SAGE told him to?

But they would’ve needed time to work out cost factors. Speak to industries etc.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/01/2021 23:02

@Fizzydrinks123

I hope the "hatred" extends equally across the spectrum - and Blair is "hated" too?

People in Iraq can't understand whey he isn't imprisoned or worse for war crimes against their country.

Absofuckinglutely

At this stage, as much as I completely despair of Boris, I actually hate Tony Blair.

They wheel him out to comment on stuff and I just shout at the Tv/Radio. I mean, who cares WTAF he thinks?

Nonamesavail · 04/01/2021 23:02

@TossCointoYerWitcher

I posted this on another thread:

You know what? I'm not absolutely bloody livid we're going into lockdown. I'm bloody livid because our PM has been insisting schools will be staying open and then suddenly announces no, they're all closing, AT 8PM THE NIGHT BEFORE.

I work full time. I can't be furloughed. I'm a single parent. Now, with less than 12 hours to spare, with no way of contacting my boss until morning, I have to suddenly deal with having to homeschool them tomorrow out of nowhere.

God only knows what the actual teachers themselves are feeling like. Presumably they've got this evening to come up with a suite of lessons and resources for 9am tomorrow.

Same. Im in a right mess now. Spent all day prepping asd kids for school, then they changed to keyworker only, now they are totally closed even to keyworkers till further notice. What a fucking joke.
cyclingmad · 04/01/2021 23:02

I do find this forum quite amusing because past few days sits been like shut the schools I don't want my child to get covid and now they will turn and now its going to be omg my child's education is being ruined and what will happen to my poor children their lives are destroyed.

🙄

ofboris · 04/01/2021 23:03

You can forget school til post Easter Bosc this lot have fooked it up as usual

GabsAlot · 04/01/2021 23:04

hes a buffoon if he'd just said last week there wont be any school that wold have been something-but no he couldnt possibly listen to professionals

wanderings · 04/01/2021 23:09

I loathe and despise Tony Blair. Not just because of his illegal war, which he totally got away with, but because he was utterly self-serving, one rule for him (family holiday when his government was “cracking down” on term-time holidays), embodiment of the nanny state (he must be wistful and wishing he had the powers government now has), he lived and breathed lies and spin. He is the reason I haven’t trusted or believed any government for the last two decades. Boris tries to spin it like Blair, but he’s much less skilful with it.

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 04/01/2021 23:10

My username sums up my feelings on the matter.

LangClegsInSpace · 04/01/2021 23:11

@BluebellsGreenbells

How about December 22 when SAGE told him to?

But they would’ve needed time to work out cost factors. Speak to industries etc.

It was the end of term and there were two weeks before schools were due back.

They squandered those two weeks and insisted schools remain open for one day in the new term. How did they find time in that one day to 'work out cost factors, speak to industries etc.'?

Ridiculous post.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 04/01/2021 23:13
@ancientgran - yes that is what happened - this morning's meetings amongst healthcare agencies etc - it has been found that the expected figures have been overshot and doesn't align with prior modelling ..

I know no-one wants to hear that and just carrying on letting off steam, but that's what's happening.
@Fizzydrinks123 your version makes the Government sound even more incompetent if that's actually possible. You are suggesting the figures were a surprise to them today?

Opening primary schools and allowing all the pupils and staff in [remember no masks necessary in school] for one day only when 'Covid loves a crowd' according to the NHS Chief. But not all schools because London schools couldn't be opened safely but the PM assured us other primaries in Tier4 (stay at home) areas could open as they were safe.

Do they treat us as adults and say actually at 50,000+ positive tests daily and rising numbers are too high to open?No they plough on (not taking the fear of fines away / not suggesting a rota to limit numbers/not closing all Tier4) before an abrupt change at the end of the day when all schools now have to close. Then we have Boris this evening trying to pass this ludicrous strategy off as being in the best interests of children educationally. How many shit sandwiches do they expect the public to swallow?

spongebobscaredypants · 04/01/2021 23:16

He can't win, it's tight. Would rather chuck myself into the Thames than have his job

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 04/01/2021 23:16

I’ve been one of his worst critics and slated his actions up, down and sideways but I don’t wish him ill. He looked terribly unwell today. I haven’t seen him look that bad since he had Covid.

WhenPidgeonsCry · 04/01/2021 23:18

There's really no defence for waiting until ONE DAY after school restarted from a two-week break to announce that schools are closing. It doesn't matter who you voted for or why, there's really no denying that that's just terrible governance.

The only defence anyone can offer is "I'm a partisan idiot who lacks any objectivity".

cyclingmad · 04/01/2021 23:20

@CoffeeCreamandSugar agreed and you know is going to happen now this week the articles will start on how children are missing education blah blah blah its a lose lose situation

Remmy123 · 04/01/2021 23:21

@cyclingmad I agree. I thought mumsnetters wouid have given themselves the night off moaning and celebrating schools closure! That's what they wanted.

But no.

littlemisslozza · 04/01/2021 23:21

Most schools would have had INSET today surely? I don't know any that actually went back in my entire county.

Remmy123 · 04/01/2021 23:24

No schools in my area went back today, hardly any did so you can all calm down.

LittleMimi · 04/01/2021 23:25

I hate people saying it’s not his fault and that he can’t win. Scottish parents don’t need to find childcare with 12 hours notice do they? The Scottish government had the sense to extend the school holidays so now with a further extension parents have a few weeks warning that schools will be closed for longer.

Likewise with the different approach to the exams.

wellitr · 04/01/2021 23:26

He is incompetent and negligent at best.

Every poor kid that was fairly safe having been off for the last 2 weeks without mixing has been subjected to completely unnecessary risk today as have their poor teachers. For what? One day of education? He knew this yesterday. It is shameful that he has exposed so many to risk.

He and his useless government are entirely culpable for the poor sods who will be infected and die because of that one day

Also still no provision for working parents. No I don't want to be furloughed because I have children, that puts me directly in the redundancy line. Alternative is I will work all day and night whilst my kids run feral..

What a shit show

SpringTime2020 · 04/01/2021 23:28

I'm grateful my DD's school was already shut. It would have really unsettled her going back in for just 1 day.

Whatamesssss · 04/01/2021 23:29

@Dddccc

A fucking Chimp high on drugs could have done better! He is the PM, the buck stops with him.

For a start, I would have ordered the PPE from companies that could actually supply up to the grade items and not just given contracts to my mates.

I would have spent the summer recruiting NHS Staff and make sure it was up to the job for the predicted second wave. I would put all covid positive patients in the Nightingales to keep existing hospitals clean so they could continue to give cancer treatment and other life limiting treatments in a timely manner.

I would have closed the airports for anything but essential travel and have quarantine for any incomers.

I would have locked down about 2 weeks sooner.

I would have given the test and trace to companies that could actually do it. Again not given my mates billions of our money to piss up the wall.

I would ensure all school children had the means to learn remotely.

I would have rolled out a Universal basic income so people who should be isolating, could.

I WOULDN'T TELL LIE AFTER LIE AFTER LIE.

There are so many things that he could have done better, I could be here all night listing them.

I can't think of one thing this government has done right and at the right time. Please enlighten me if I am wrong.
