Did Boris actually just do that?

So did Boris emphasise on TV at the weekend that's schools were safe, then pressure parents and staff to attend school today only to lock everyone down from tonight abs shut schools as part of it? Send everyone in to mingle for a pointless day. Wtaf.

Is this leadership? I am struggling to think of how he could be more indecisive and incompetent.

Is there a means through which a PM can be removed?

Yes, he actually did that.

I hate him worse than Thatcher.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 21:08

@MushMonster

But he is right. Schools were perfectly safe on Saturday morning (because they were empty). Today they have filled up, and (he actually said this!), they act as vectors of transmission between households! So he had to close them, obviously!
Absolutely he said that! In the interview that was front page of the DM he said schools themselves are safe, the issue is the people mixing within. I mean fuck me backwards with a donkey dildo, you don’t say Boris!!! You mean the walls and doors and roof are perfectly harmless until it’s full of people transferring germs? Well I never 🤦🏻‍♀️
Remmy123 · 04/01/2021 21:08

Oh stop moaning .. you got what you wanted , a full lockdown and schools shut. Mumsnetters must be whooping with glee abd 'I told you so's'!!

Commonwasher · 04/01/2021 21:08

I could not agree more OP.

This is not leadership so much as a game with popularity polls.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 21:09

He doesn't want to be the PM. He's clinging on trying to protect his legacy. He's waiting for the vaccine to start to roll out and life to return to semi normality and then he's a hero. Maybe not a hero but not the incompetent arsehole he is now. All he cares about is his entry in the history of Prime Ministers or whatever.

Bearing in mind that Ofsted have being saying they wouldn't be conducting inspections as it was unsafe, I would really love to know why Boris le turd thought schools were safe?

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 21:09

I’m not fucking whooping as I sent my kids in to get infected today when I could have kept them home knowing that we’d shielded all Christmas. Brilliant.

SoscaredforJan · 04/01/2021 21:10

I feel sorry for the parents and grandparents who will die in 4 weeks now because their child went back to school for ONE DAY

I believe if enough tories decide he's crap they can have a vote of no confidence and get rid of him. They'd replace him with another tory though and would be under no obligation to call an election.

Suzi888 · 04/01/2021 21:12

Don’t key workers still get childcare places? DH and I can access childcare if needed.

Char2015 · 04/01/2021 21:14

Can't even blame Cummings for this one.

Atalune · 04/01/2021 21:16

He’s dreadful. Tories are BAD. Capitalism, cronyism, distrust of workers organising and unionising. It’s all fucked.

CarrotPuff · 04/01/2021 21:16

KW do get spaces but I don't think school can magic that all up at 9pm the night before.

walksen · 04/01/2021 21:16

"So did Boris emphasise on TV at the weekend that's schools were safe"

No he was on TV this morning saying schools were safe, people in them no more likely than anyone else to get covid etc.

enjoyingscience · 04/01/2021 21:16

Plenty of people (DH and I included) who can’t be furloughed but aren’t key workers. We’re left deciding who to let down, the kids who need us, or the employers who pay our mortgage. Fucking ridiculous.

BlueBaubles12 · 04/01/2021 21:17

I’m more surprised that you’re surprised that he did it. He’s a leadership void; utterly out of his depth.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/01/2021 21:17

It's embarrassing at best.

It's worth a try. My SLT are meeting now.
MushMonster · 04/01/2021 21:18

He was on TV Saturday morning too. Schools are safe, perfectly safe.
I did not know Boris was on TV this morning? I thought Handcock was, but I did not see him.

GervaseFen · 04/01/2021 21:20

@BabyLlamaZen

I'm not a fan, but you saw the uproar last time. Children (our future economy) suffer a lot when not at school. But they also can't be in school. It's constant juggling and the man cannot win.
It's true lockdown are unpopular but he has done this in the worst possible way. Why reopen for one day? Leadership means making a decision.
Fizzydrinks123 · 04/01/2021 21:21

I'm in healthcare - it's the new variant which has significantly changed planning - staff are tested every week so inevitably even those with no symptoms are then having to isolate.

It is spreading much more quickly and plans have changed accordingly.

Schools will re-open again in February, IF and depending on how the figures pan out over the next few weeks. Reacting and changing direction isn't the same as being wrong.

Starmer has been saying exactly the same until today that schools should stay open, so not sure who it is anyone thinks would have done it differently with schools.
