Did Boris actually just do that?

So did Boris emphasise on TV at the weekend that's schools were safe, then pressure parents and staff to attend school today only to lock everyone down from tonight abs shut schools as part of it? Send everyone in to mingle for a pointless day. Wtaf.

Is this leadership? I am struggling to think of how he could be more indecisive and incompetent.

Is there a means through which a PM can be removed?

He has no clue.

Who is winding him up from the back??

DesdemonaDryEyes · 04/01/2021 20:54

I’m sure if you rocked up at Downing Street he’d happily hand you the keys.

Atalune · 04/01/2021 20:55

He looked so terrible. Haggard.

Stellaris22 · 04/01/2021 20:55

All because the government couldn't admit the unions were right, despicable.

Atalune · 04/01/2021 20:56

Political agenda pushing all the time.

AppleKatie · 04/01/2021 20:56

Yes he did.

Insanity.

TossCointoYerWitcher · 04/01/2021 20:56

I posted this on another thread:

You know what? I'm not absolutely bloody livid we're going into lockdown. I'm bloody livid because our PM has been insisting schools will be staying open and then suddenly announces no, they're all closing, AT 8PM THE NIGHT BEFORE.

I work full time. I can't be furloughed. I'm a single parent. Now, with less than 12 hours to spare, with no way of contacting my boss until morning, I have to suddenly deal with having to homeschool them tomorrow out of nowhere.

God only knows what the actual teachers themselves are feeling like. Presumably they've got this evening to come up with a suite of lessons and resources for 9am tomorrow.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 20:57

He needs to go. His absolute incompetence makes him dangerous.

Not sure if you mean he'd willingly give it up or I'm being uppity to suggest he's wrong but either way I genuinely think I would do a better job and I'm completely average and uninspiring in every way! 😀

Lottapianos · 04/01/2021 20:57

I'm a Londoner so put up with EIGHT YEARS of his shit as mayor, and I'm tempted to ask why anyone is surprised at his incompetence, but not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagine how jaw droppingly, catastrophically HORRENDOUS he would be as PM. It's really hard to take in

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 20:57

@TossCointoYerWitcher I'm so sorry- it's horrific it really is Thanks

He always looks haggard but he really shamed himself this time. Kier demanded he locked down yesterday, he came this morning to say things would change but waited til after NS announcement for Scotland then added his. He's never looked weaker as a leader.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 20:58

Yes @Lottapianos it really is difficult to take in. It wouldn't pass a script reading for a B list film. A Z list film even.

BabyLlamaZen · 04/01/2021 20:59

I'm not a fan, but you saw the uproar last time. Children (our future economy) suffer a lot when not at school. But they also can't be in school. It's constant juggling and the man cannot win.

midnightstar66 · 04/01/2021 20:59

Same!!

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 21:01

I don’t understand either. All I can conjure is that the Head Teachers Association threatened legal action unless they relinquished data on covid in schools and one could assume the data was SO bad they did a huge u-turn and shut them.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 21:01

@BabyLlamaZen I would be more sympathetic if he hadn't been saying the polar opposite only one day ago. Even earlier today eh was talking vaguely about the future. Several sources (scientists, SAGE, independent SAGE etc) saying that schools would have to close yet he powered on. I don't know if his announcement was as a result of Sturgeon's but he absolutely has never looked weaker as a PP has said.

I'm actually flabbergasted at what he's putting people through.

Like a pp I’m a key worker and single parent. How the hell am I supposed to magic up childcare less than 12 hours before school!? I had to reduce my hours last time which put me in rent arrears. I’m still fighting to get out of it. I can’t do it again. So pissed off right now.

Lottapianos · 04/01/2021 21:02

'Yes @Lottapianos it really is difficult to take in'

I mean, it would be funny if people weren't literally dying and losing their livelihoods and losing their minds because of him. The dithering, the wild promises, the macho bullshit about 'world beating' this and that. It seems pathological with him. Surely he knows, on some level, how utterly out of his depth he is

wherewildthingsare · 04/01/2021 21:02

He hasn't a clue what he's doing . I think Stanley ( his dad) would make a better PM 🙄

Not really of course but he couldn't be any worse
MushMonster · 04/01/2021 21:04

But he is right. Schools were perfectly safe on Saturday morning (because they were empty).
Today they have filled up, and (he actually said this!), they act as vectors of transmission between households! So he had to close them, obviously!

Lottapianos · 04/01/2021 21:05

'It's constant juggling and the man cannot win.'

I'm sorry but that is utter horseshit. I'm certainly not expecting him to get everything right and make no mistakes whatsoever. I'm expecting him to be able to act like a grown up, listen to the people who know more than he does (everyone), make decisions in a timely fashion, not make wild unhinged macho promises and not flat out LIE to the public.

This new lockdown would be utter shit no matter what, but just the vaguest sense that the grown ups were in charge would make it bearable

You will get a place in school. Email them now. Best luck

Contact school tonight and ask for a keyworker space.
