Is BoJo expected to make an official announcement today or is it just speculation?

LacyEdge · 04/01/2021 10:36

Resignation would be nice.

Tillsforthrills · 04/01/2021 10:36

@LacyEdge agreed!

Sparklingbrook · 04/01/2021 10:38

I am losing track TBH. Some are saying he'll announce a full lockdown but TBF he can announce whatever he wants most are past caring or listening.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/01/2021 10:38

@LacyEdge

Resignation would be nice.
Supposing he was to do that - who would you like to take his place?

Not saying it would be a bad thing, but I'd struggle to find anyone I was any happier with (that would be able to step into it anyway)

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 04/01/2021 10:39

I think he’ll dither about for a few more days yet. Starmer called for immediate action yesterday, he’ll leave a bit of time after that so he doesn’t look like he’s doing what Starmer says.

Tillsforthrills · 04/01/2021 10:41

Awful being kept on edge with him and Hancock hinting at further measures but stopping short Confused

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 10:42

A coalition of Marcus Rashford and Captain Tom would be good.

Or Gordon Brown if he would like to be part of a coalition (very intelligent and principled man)

applecatchers36 · 04/01/2021 10:44

Here I'd vote for your coalition!

Char2015 · 04/01/2021 10:45

Matt Hancock on GMB was hinting towards moving tier 3 to tier 4. Ridiculous if that's there only plan. We know tier 4 does not work. There no point keep implementing tiers and changing the rules of tiers. We need a national lockdown to start today, not tomorrow, not in 48 hours, but NOW.

monkeypuzzeltree · 04/01/2021 10:46

Sturgeon due to update at lunchtime, as usual expect she will deliver some clear rule changes, BoJo will realise, again, that maybe he'd better say something and alas announce changes at 5. Good job the teachers haven't been running round all weekend sorting testing when they could have been sorting home schooling.

MistleTOEboughski · 04/01/2021 10:46

They have said he's having a meeting about further measures but so far no announcements have been announced.

Char2015 · 04/01/2021 10:48

I read that Sturgeon was due to announce a Scotland lockdown - March style. Obviously that's only rumour at the moment. But Nicola is normally quite good at seeing what is happening and acting quick.
monkeypuzzeltree · 04/01/2021 10:51

@Char2015 ... you mean Nicola is quite good at making a decision and leadership? Surely that will never catch on! I don't agree with her policy stances but by god she's shown leadership during this time.

storminabuttercup · 04/01/2021 10:58

The thing is even if he does make an announcement he always manages to water it down.
There could be a scientist stood by him saying the world will end tomorrow and he'll say 'but alas with determination we can get through it, mumble, waffle, Latin, hands, face space'

It's a blithering idiot

Tillsforthrills · 04/01/2021 11:02

@MistleTOEboughski I’ve just seen on sky news that there’ll be announcements ‘soon’ on tougher restrictions.

OP posts:
Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 04/01/2021 11:05

It’s far to early for Boris to make a decisive decision and he is very petty , therefore he won’t announce anything today because of Keir Starmer calling for one yesterday . I expect lockdown to be announced the end of the weeks when the Xmas mixing will tip the cases into the 70k

Helenj1977 · 04/01/2021 11:13

My mum heard 5pm today.

I’d be surprised if he shuts schools after telling us yesterday they’re safe!

glitterfarts · 04/01/2021 11:17

what would be the point in shutting schools at 5pm when they have been mixing all day?
Ours has an inset day today, but if they announce at 5pm, I will be leaving mine home alone tomorrow.

Anjo2011 · 04/01/2021 11:22

The more briefings and half arsed restrictions the Government announce, the less effective they will be, as if it wasn’t bad enough already. The total
shambles with today’s return to schools is outrageous. But they just seem to think it will be accepted time after time. I honestly thought we had been through the worst of it last year but I was very wrong.

RaspberryCoulis · 04/01/2021 11:22

All of mainland Scotland is in the most strict "tier" or level or whatever they're calling it. No household mixing indoors. Non-essential retail closed. Hospitality closed - takeaway only. Schools closed until at least 18th Jan and nearly everyone thinks it will be longer than that. We're banned from travelling outside our local Council area.

Just what else could she close? But she'll come up with something, to preserve her crown as St Nicola of Covid, and continue her game of "who's the hardest" willy-waving with Drakeford and Boris.

nosswith · 04/01/2021 11:22

I am not sure about today but were I a betting person it would be before or on Wednesday. Based on the fact that the House of Commons returns on Thursday, and Mr Johnson likes to evade scrutiny.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 04/01/2021 11:33

He's not going to resign (he's looking to good to his mates atm)
We will all be in Tier 4 - that has been made clear this morning, and poss full lockdown. Shielding will be back as they can use it as a ruse to close schools. Today would be better but bet will be Wednesday.

ListeningQuietly · 04/01/2021 11:34

Lockdown is untrue
because millions of low paid people are out at work

  • producing food
  • delivering and picking other people's online shopping
  • cooking and delivering meals
  • keeping the lights on
  • care workers going house to house

only the rich have the luxury of staying at home during lockdowns

GypsyLee · 04/01/2021 11:38

only the rich have the luxury of staying at home during lockdowns

Or the poor who have lost their jobs.

Redbrickwall · 04/01/2021 11:38

@ListeningQuietly absolutely

I am literally SICK of this shit. Sick of constantly waiting for another announcement of how our lives will be fucked even further.

We were told last night at 5pm that schools aren’t opening today. I’m a teacher and a mum. It’s a fucking nightmare.

I don’t know what else they can stop people doing. Short of banning us from stepping outside our house. This life is an absolute misery
