It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

I'm in Lancashire too and my daughters primary have emailed this afternoon saying that they're open as normal tomorrow. One other local primary school is moving to online provision for at least 2 weeks though.

ASchuylerSister · 03/01/2021 18:05

I’m in Sussex and just had the email from my son’s primary school to say they are closed from tomorrow.

I’m glad as it’s taken the decision out of my hands about whether to send him in or not!

Noellodee · 03/01/2021 18:06

Good for them. Well done NEU. What a fucking disgrace that it had to be unions and teachers doing this.

Fedup21 · 03/01/2021 18:06

Yep-loads round here as well.

The nurseries seem to be remaining open though.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/01/2021 18:07

Reading schools mostly closing.

RememberSelfCompassion · 03/01/2021 18:08

It does seem one extreme or the other. Either closing or reminders to come in unless exv.

Rudolphian · 03/01/2021 18:08

In the north west
And got an email an hour ago to say currently the primary school will be opening as normal tomorrow. If anything changed they will email us.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 18:08

Yes some schools have announced they are closing here. Derbyshire bordering Nottinghamshire. Still no word from DS's school.

cindyloohoo · 03/01/2021 18:08

I'm in Essex and we were told at 5pm today by the school that the kids are off Monday and Tuesday (and we strongly suspect it'll be more than that!).

I'm annoyed at short notice and worried about how I'm going to juggle work and home school, but like a previous poster I'm glad the decision has been taken out of my hands as I was nervous about sending him/guilty about keeping him off etc.

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/01/2021 18:08

I’ve not heard of any here in Bristol... yet

TodgerStrunk · 03/01/2021 18:09

Whereas we've had a letter telling us attendance is compulsory Hmm

terriblyangryattimes · 03/01/2021 18:09

Sussex here, both our schools have sent emails today saying they are planning to open as normal Tuesday (inset tomorrow) unless teachers don't come in/positive cases then they'll close bubbles as necessary and do online learning.

PotteringAlong · 03/01/2021 18:10

I’ve just had the email telling me my children’s school is definitely open.

Spanglebangle · 03/01/2021 18:11

31 schools in our MAT all been asked to close tomorrow for 'review'.

lazylockdowner · 03/01/2021 18:11

We're tier 4 south east and both schools I work at are open... no staff have decided to follow the union

Sausagessizzling · 03/01/2021 18:11

Lots of Berkshire schools closed

withinacceptabletolerances · 03/01/2021 18:12

Nottinghamshire here and we've had the email saying they're completely closed tomorrow and then key workers and vulnerable kids from Tues...

kowari · 03/01/2021 18:13

It's so awful for this to be happening last minute Sad.

CuckooSings · 03/01/2021 18:14

North East here and the primary has just announced its moving to home learning until further notice.

LadyCatStark · 03/01/2021 18:14

We’re Lancashire too, so far 7 primary/ special schools in Morecambe and Lancaster have announced that they’re not opening.

wonderstuff · 03/01/2021 18:14

Nothing communicated so I'm assuming our primary in north Hampshire is going to be open tomorrow. Can't see it staying that way for long.

InTheLongGrass · 03/01/2021 18:15

NE here. Facebook full of closure messages, but nothing from DS2's school, yet.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/01/2021 18:15

It is. We've got 5 working hours tomorrow to get packs out to 500 kids. One photocopier.

toothfairy73 · 03/01/2021 18:15

Am in one of the London boroughs that was on the original list of primary closures. I think it's ridiculous to consider opening schools anywhere when the virus is rampant with a new strain. I think all teaching should move online. I say this as someone who was tearing her hair out trying to work and homeschool. Opening schools in September resulted in covid rates spiking, and they are already at unprecedented levels.

Yes school is incredibly important and for some children it is their lifeline. If that is the case and the schools/social services are aware of this why can't they provide extra support for those children. School is only a sticking plaster for children in abusive families. More needs to be done to support those children 24 hours a day.

lljkk · 03/01/2021 18:16

Are closures happening in spite of DfE instructions, or within the DfE rules?
