He’s popped his head up with the above...

No explanations, no counter arguments on SAGE’s finding or NEU’s report...

Just send your children to school I’m quite sure they are safe...

He is a bloody joke!!!

Nice to hear that new measures, including closing schools, are inevitable. So why open them tomorrow?!

Cynderella · 03/01/2021 10:00

Andrew Marr is giving him an easy ride. He's not being made to explain anything.

He does keep saying things WILL get tougher and closing schools IS one of the options. It smacks of not wanting to do what someone else suggests, and knowing he will do it but will claim it's his own idea.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 10:00

Well, it's not good enough to merely say that, he will need to prove it now solicitors are involved.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2021 10:00

It's a 3 word phrase so he will keep saying it.

He was completely evasive about everything else to do with schools and education, however.

catgirl1976 · 03/01/2021 10:01

Eton is still closed though

AaronPurr · 03/01/2021 10:01

Schools are safe

Schools are safe

Schools are safe

Schools are safe

Repeating something over and over again doesn't make it true. It was a lie the first time you said it, it's still a lie when you say it for the 21st time.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2021 10:01

I read somewhere is some SAGE report or other that they won't have the data they need about something until mid January so I expect school closures form them tbh. Meanwhile, it's holding patterns.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 10:02

Anne, because tomorrow is the experiment day...... And the following week's and if enough people get sick and ill, he may close them again.
It's an experiment.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 03/01/2021 10:02

How can we believe anything he says in the future. Schools are safe unless you live in London, as London children and teachers are.. What, more important? More likely to be people you know? Or what? They are either safe or not.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 10:03

Well the section 44 is about a safe work place, so legally they can't really stay open until its proved they are safe

From the moment staff step into their work, they need total reassurance of safety.

LittleSwede · 03/01/2021 10:03

If schools were so safe, would my nephews have brought Covid home from their primary school just in time for Christmas? Would my SIL (their mother), their dad and their grandad (in their support bubble) have been poorly enough with it to struggle to eat and drink for days?

Lifeispassingby · 03/01/2021 10:04

Schools are safe enough to be open except in areas where they are shut?? Oh wait, no that’s just that the government care enough about he impact of schools on community infection once the NHS is strained, but raising he infection rates else where doesn’t matter until they are also sky high??

KindKylie · 03/01/2021 10:04

Schools are safe, in his mind.

We're not in his mind so may want to know whos advice he is basing that on and what evidence he is using. If he and tge dfe were to oublish their individual risk assessments which made clear why some schools should shut and some stay open, then teachers and heads could extrapolate that and make evidence based decisions for their own schools.

He says the risks to children are small, but ignores the argument is also about risks to teachers, staff and the wider community.

There's rows raging on community FB pages about people driving to local open spaces and beauty spots because it's 'too far' and 'risky' to do this in the great outdoors on your own but it's totes fine to be in a classroom with 30 others, no quibble.

nevernotstruggling · 03/01/2021 10:04

What are we concluding? He's not Boeing to unions? No briefing later?

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 10:04

Miss...

Our school is Se and has higher numbers than ones they closed...

Is that safe?

Sky news said... Boris referenced OLD data.

Sickofthiscrapp · 03/01/2021 10:05

Yep. No signs of closing.

Barbie222 · 03/01/2021 10:05

Yes, and he admitted to being behind the curve with other decisions.
FairyFairy · 03/01/2021 10:06

It did sound a bit as though opening schools was going to be a handy way of testing the impact of Tier 4 restrictions Confused

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 03/01/2021 10:08

If schools are safe make him go and follow a year 2 for a day, then a year 10. Without masks like they are.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 10:08

What are we concluding? He's not Boeing to unions? No briefing later?

Wish they'd go back to daily briefings or at least every other day. Doesn't look like there will be one today though.

mrshoho · 03/01/2021 10:09

Did anyone take that to mean exams will be cancelled? He was asked and didn't say the usual line that they were committed to keeping them did he?

Remmy123 · 03/01/2021 10:10
