He’s popped his head up with the above...

No explanations, no counter arguments on SAGE’s finding or NEU’s report...

Just send your children to school I’m quite sure they are safe...

He is a bloody joke!!!

I’m looking forward to the government providing evidence that school are safe in court.

singsingbluesilver · 03/01/2021 10:14

If schools are safe then so are museums, libraries, clothes shops, soft play centres.....etc So, they will be opening up tomorrow as well then?

By his logic any indoor area is now safe and can hold up to, say 35 people, for hours at a time.

Great - best tell that to the police who are having a crappy time dealing with people driving to Snowdonia to walk in the open air many metres away from other people.

Logic Boris, logic.

Aponcetasticchristmastoall · 03/01/2021 10:15

@Remmy123

Hmm let me think...

Possibly because as parents, children’s education and safety are quite high on our agenda...

If schools are safe why are all London primaries remaining closed?

Indeed, it's great news to many struggling businesses.

He's a total spanner. I would like to know where Gavin Williamson is. At home having a lie in most likely. What a completely incredible lack of leadership. He won't even show his face.

Unfortunately, that will all be too late. The minute primary school children set foot over the threshold of schools tomorrow morning, any ground made over the Christmas firebreak (haha) will be lost. Closing them after that will be almost futile, in terms of avoiding the inevitable exponential rise in cases and subsequent deaths. Court action won't bring back dead loved ones.
Barbie222 · 03/01/2021 10:17

Us4Them can have a handy new target - Boris! He's just admitted he's going to have to close schools within the next few weeks.

middleager · 03/01/2021 10:17

It really should sit alongside:

"War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength."

sortmylifeoutplease · 03/01/2021 10:17

@KindKylie

Schools are safe, in his mind.

We're not in his mind so may want to know whos advice he is basing that on and what evidence he is using. If he and tge dfe were to oublish their individual risk assessments which made clear why some schools should shut and some stay open, then teachers and heads could extrapolate that and make evidence based decisions for their own schools.

He says the risks to children are small, but ignores the argument is also about risks to teachers, staff and the wider community.

There's rows raging on community FB pages about people driving to local open spaces and beauty spots because it's 'too far' and 'risky' to do this in the great outdoors on your own but it's totes fine to be in a classroom with 30 others, no quibble.

@Remmy123

Oh ffs how many more of these threads do we need

Just keep your kids off abd be done with it

You finding it hard to bury your head in the sand with all these reminders of the shit show in schools this coming week?
pinfloy · 03/01/2021 10:18

If schools are safe, why would closing them be an option if they need to tighten restrictions? Either they're safe and closing them would make no difference, or they contribute to spread and closing would have an impact. It can't be both!

ineedaholidaynow · 03/01/2021 10:18

He kept saying he was going to talk about the exams but didn’t. Is he doing interviews with anyone else today?

I like how he sits 2m away from Andrew Marr, and when Parliament are in session only a few MPs are allowed in the chamber sitting 2m away from each other as that is COVID secure. But you can cram 30+ people in a small room in a school with no social distancing and that is safe!

wizzbangfizz · 03/01/2021 10:18

Good glad he isn't caving in to the unions. It should be on a case by case basis - our primary in a Tier 3 had limited cases, loads of rules we have all happily stuck by (including teachers in PPE the oldest classes in well ventilated rooms wearing coats and layers to avoid freezing) why should it shut. If people are that concerned they should keep their kids off and not not mix with anyone. We haven't mixed with anyone outside our immediate family indoors.

Randomschoolworker19 · 03/01/2021 10:18

The crazy thing is that there we around 30 people dying a day when schools originally closed for the first lock down. Now we're at between 600-900 a day with over 50,000 new cases a day.

I totally agree, good leadership comes with backbone and conviction not a wispy washy rambling statement and then disappearing for the next week...

This is our kids education and safely we are talking about!!!

wizzbangfizz · 03/01/2021 10:20

And Christmas firebreak?! What the Christmas firebreak when everyone was mixing with extended family because it was Christmas and bending the bubble rules to suit themselves?! Utter joke.

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2021 10:21

What about the advice form Sage wizzbang? Are you glad he isn't 'caving in' to his own advisory group too?

Frenchdressing · 03/01/2021 10:21

He talks about tightening up restrictions further. Closing schools is all there is left to do.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/01/2021 10:21

I can say "Boris is competent" as many times as I like. It doesn't make it any less of a lie.

phlebasconsidered · 03/01/2021 10:22

Come into my classroom and tell me that Boris "Bodybag", I can't hear you from the safety of your very shut Parliament.

AlexaShutUp · 03/01/2021 10:23

Boris says that schools are safe?

Oh, well that's ok then. I won't worry about the pandemic that is rapidly spinning out of control, the lack of social distancing in schools or the major concerns expressed by teaching unions. If Boris says it's safe, I am totally reassured.

Misssugarplum12764 · 03/01/2021 10:23

@mrshoho

Did anyone take that to mean exams will be cancelled? He was asked and didn't say the usual line that they were committed to keeping them did he?
I honestly don’t think he bothers himself to keep updated on education in general. He’s said on TV that schools have “social distancing and whatnot” when even Gav and Gibb know enough not to trot out that lie.

I have absolutely no idea what they’ll do about exams, but I wouldn’t infer anything from what BJ implies about it as I’m sure he has less of a clue than me!

nosswith · 03/01/2021 10:23

OP the Prime Minister by his actions/inactions is not a joke, but a serial killer.

FrostedCranberries · 03/01/2021 10:23

So will they reopen London schools tomorrow then?
