He’s popped his head up with the above...

No explanations, no counter arguments on SAGE’s finding or NEU’s report...

Just send your children to school I’m quite sure they are safe...

He is a bloody joke!!!

And new year. Plenty of new year parties. Some people on my social media had get togethers with other households.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 03/01/2021 11:12

Is there robust data available that children are 'super spreaders'?

See this: fullfact.org/health/children-silent-super-spreaders-coronavirus/

I'm not saying children are super spreaders, but I don't think sharing information from August is relevant to the current situation. Things have changed considerably since then.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 03/01/2021 11:14

There is literally no hope for this country with Boris in charge! I wouldn't send my kids back to school tomorrow

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 03/01/2021 11:17

Johnson doesn’t understand. He may have experienced the best education money and Stanley Johnson could provide but I think he’s actually incapable of fully understanding what absolute nonsense he spouts.

It’s simple... kids at school=bringing home/spreading virus. Not unduly affected, sometimes totally unaffected themselves.

STOP route of transmission.

I’m not a fucking scientist but I get it.

It's not even the fact that they are super spreaders. Just spreading it like normal people. But adults are social distancing and wearing masks.

ClaudiaAndTheCauldron · 03/01/2021 11:17

@LittleSwede

Same here.
My son caught it at school and gave it to me. We have both had it over Christmas.

Confusedandshaken · 03/01/2021 11:17

If my DC were still at primary school there is no way in hell I would be sending them in tomorrow. I would wait until the R rate was lower before sending them back.

Yes this. They must be able to see this if Joe Public can.
Kjc39 · 03/01/2021 11:18

What is wrong will you all? It’s like common sense has gone out of the window. Covid has become a sort of madness. Most cases in school have not included symptoms. It’s very unlikely that it can be spread without symptoms. Stay calm!

nosswith · 03/01/2021 11:18

@IAmAMalenkyBitPoogly thank you as do I.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 03/01/2021 11:20

Yesterday, out for a walk, a small group of early teens walking toward me. No masks. Not one family. I had to walk off the pavement and cycle path onto the road to get round them.

They are guided by a PM who keeps telling them it’s OK to be in a classroom, no masks and all cheek by jowl for the school day so how on earth are they to make any sense of the “rules”?

Ladydowntheroad · 03/01/2021 11:21

@Remmy123

Oh ffs how many more of these threads do we need

Just keep your kids off abd be done with it

Why on earth are you on the Mumsnet Coronavirus forum if you are sick of mums talking about their kids and coronavirus??
EleanorRigbyWasReal · 03/01/2021 11:23

@Kjc39... oh dear. You’ve not been keeping up.

Many many people have tested positive and been totally asymptomatic.

And a little girl, 8yrs of age, no underlying condition died from Covid, in the Uk, on Friday.

borntobequiet · 03/01/2021 11:23

It's the presence of learning objectives that makes schools safe.

All students will achieve a basic level of immunity.
Most students will achieve an enhanced level of immunity.
Some students will achieve total immunity.

(Predicated on a form of herd immunity obv.)

I’m sure it’ll work like a charm, though I’m pretty sure no one does learning objectives like this any more, I bet it’s way more complicated.

MrsHamlet · 03/01/2021 11:25

All, most, some is banned at my school. I'd get told off for that 🤣

amy85 · 03/01/2021 11:26

What annoyed me is he said the risk to children in schools is very very low ...what about school staff?!

Whether he gets it or not doesn’t matter. He just doesn’t care. And he thinks if he says something, he will magically be believed. And then when it goes wrong, he will blame everyone else. These are classic classic narcissistic traits. He is never in the wrong.
WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 11:28

@wizzbangfizz

And Christmas firebreak?! What the Christmas firebreak when everyone was mixing with extended family because it was Christmas and bending the bubble rules to suit themselves?! Utter joke.
This.

Dd was invited to two Christmas parties and one new year children's party as "they are all in the same class because it's okay".

She's 6 and one of the only one of her friends who didn't go according to the class WhatsApp group. But it's always been business as usual here.

WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 11:28

*so, not because

highlandcoo · 03/01/2021 11:32

Today's Andrew Marr interview reminded me of Just a Minute with Boris Johnson keeping talking and talking maniacally in an attempt to prevent Andrew Marr from asking another question.

And did anyone see the slight smirk on his face throughout? I think for him, unbelievably, this still is in some respects a game.

Unspeakable as our PM at this time of crisis.

WaltzingTilda · 03/01/2021 11:37

I think he does understand but rhetoric and talking absolute nonsense is what got him there ,so he probably thinks talking more nonsense will keep him there and he is probably right. The British do love their celebrities and he is just a celebrity pm and he is catering to the celebrity loving majority who voted him in. On the positive side usually when he comes out and says something , he comes back a few hours/days later with a complete u turn. So who knows, he might hold a press conference at some point soon to say all schools will be closed. It could be a little too late by then though

borntobequiet · 03/01/2021 11:41

I’m glad I retired (from secondary) a few years ago. I found that very helpful and I was very successful as a teacher, consistently getting excellent results with lots of value added at every level.
I don’t think I ever bothered to write learning objectives on the board or in books though. That seemed pointless. I just told them.

Kjc39 · 03/01/2021 11:42

From ONS Deaths exceeded their five-year average in age groups 15 years and over. The biggest increase was in those aged 85 to 89 years, with three-quarters of deaths involving COVID-19 in people aged 75 years and over.

Kjc39 · 03/01/2021 11:43

Statistics released up until December 16, 'Only 377 people under 60 without preexisting conditions have died of COVID in England
