He’s popped his head up with the above...

No explanations, no counter arguments on SAGE’s finding or NEU’s report...

Just send your children to school I’m quite sure they are safe...

He is a bloody joke!!!

@Kjc39

Statistics released up until December 16, 'Only 377 people under 60 without preexisting conditions have died of COVID in England
You know ‘preexisting conditions’ include lots of stuff completely unrelated to your ability to survive covid, yes? Like learning disabilities? Autism? The things on this screenshot? That figure is completely pointless.

My DD is 4, she got it over 2 weeks ago FROM SCHOOL. Her 7yo sister recovered quickly and is fine but she hasn’t. Everything she does exhausts her and it’s not getting any better. It’s literally heartbreaking to see her this tired all the time. The thing is is she didn’t even have it that bad when she was ill with it. I wish I had listened to my gut and pulled them out.

Carlislemumof4 · 03/01/2021 13:10

It's as safe as it will be for months.

I hope vaccines will swiftly be offered to all teachers but that will take months not weeks. I'd fully support mask wearing for primary age, my DCs all have a set of fabric masks each ready to wear if that is brought in.

I wish my DCs teachers would keep a window open throughout the day, they are supposed to be but aren't. As someone who is at home a lot through the day but can't afford to have the heating on all the time and always has a kitchen and bathroom window open for ventilation whatever the season, I can't understand the fuss about it. My kids are used to putting a warm jumper on and getting fresh air!

Carlisle is tier 4 and infection rate going up all the time but I'm happy sending mine in tomorrow. For months we've not seen family and have kept close contacts outside school to zero to try and help keep them in. We'll continue to do that.DH will still be fully wfh for the immediate future.

My only other trips out other than the 20 minute walk on the school run twice a day will be the supermarket on my own. DCs won't be going out other than school but if in they not only get their education but social time with peers and to stay settled in a school environment following the routines. My Year 6 DD particularly needs this to cope with the move up to secondary in a few months, she developed anxiety during the last period off school which improved hugely on return.

Closing schools just makes problems elsewhere. My DCs would stay at home but many of their classmates would be walking the streets or in the local supermarket and corner shop instead of school.

Cardbach. The average age of death though is 82.4.

Kjc39 · 03/01/2021 13:11

From ONS Deaths exceeded their five-year average in age groups 15 years and over. The biggest increase was in those aged 85 to 89 years, with three-quarters of deaths involving COVID-19 in people aged 75 years and over.

Kjc39 · 03/01/2021 13:13

Plus from death statistics as of November 2020, you do realise that although deaths were an increase in the 5 year average 2003 was significantly more of deadlier year! We survived that with out lockdowns and hysteria!

DayBath · 03/01/2021 13:15

I want to see Boris wandering around a busy packed classroom shaking children's hands on the news, just like he did at that hospital when he was minimising Covid right before....oh, that didn't go so well for him first time round did it

What type of school do you work at and what is your occupation?
Jenasaurus · 03/01/2021 13:21

Boris stated the evidence that schools are safe by comparing with the schools that remained open in the North when the rates were high, but at that stage the new variant wasnt present, and maybe the fact they were kept open contributed to the fact those areas remained high, I dont think he has thought things through, what a shambles. I feel sorry for parents and teachers and their families, this is really another case of too little before its too late.

QueenOfThorns · 03/01/2021 13:36

Kjc39 you are posting dangerous misinformation here. What are we supposed to see in your graphs without titles or axis labels?

I used to be a research scientist too, and your DH is talking a lot of rot about getting a positive result from water if you do enough PCR cycles. You always run a negative control and if that comes up positive then the whole run is rejected. My DH currently works in the field of COVID testing and OF COURSE each test specifies the number of cycles to be used. It’s all standardised.

What are you hoping to gain from spreading this stuff?

NanaRant · 03/01/2021 13:41
@NanaRant the virus lives in your mouth and throat. If you're asymptomatic it just means you are very very fortunate and your immune system is coping and you are not ill.
It doesn't mean you can't spread the virus as you breathe and speak.
Totally agree

Tanith · 03/01/2021 13:42

@Kjc39

I also work in a school
I thought you said you worked in a pre-school. Which is it?
harribot · 03/01/2021 13:44

@Frazzled2207

He's a total spanner. I would like to know where Gavin Williamson is. At home having a lie in most likely. What a completely incredible lack of leadership. He won't even show his face.
He isn't a leader. None of them are. That's why we are in this complete and utter mess. With no end in sight.
Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 13:59

How long do you think schools will be open in tier 4 areas for? I'm 'self isolating' with the DC's for the next ten days, gambling on them being closed. No idea what I'll do afterwards if they're still open. If anything, as a disabled person it seems sensible to wait and see how out of control infections get. Feel so guilty though.

Unsure33 · 03/01/2021 14:00

People are very good at politicising this virus .

And picking the bits that suit them .

He did say they don’t want to close schools and the risk to children and young adults is low . But if the teir 4 action does not work then they will have to close schools . He did say it’s balancing act between mental health , education , and public health .

And btw it won’t be a u turn because closure of schools is a real possibility.

2boysand1princess · 03/01/2021 14:06

@AlexaShutUp

with respect to the PP you do not know 100 per cent you DC def caught it from school - again none of us do.

If we caught covid, dd's school is the only potential source tbh. We don't go anywhere else, do anything else, see anyone else! I'm sure that many other families are the same at the moment.

Yep same here. Only place we can catch it from is via DC schools.

Beebity what area are you in? There are a growing number of authorities taking matters into their own hands.
Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 14:12

Walsall. Right between Brum and Wolverhampton who are both shutting schools. No word yet, though it's very pro tory here so can't see them acting.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 14:13

Unsure, in schools with cases around them 600+ how many staff have to fall ill and end up in hospital before he decides it doesn't work.

How many people get thrown under the wait and see bus?

I'm not politically one way or the other.

WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 14:14

@Beebityboo are Wolverhampton shutting them? I hadn't seen. I'm just south of there.

Panickingpavlova · 03/01/2021 14:17

Bee, glad you made the descion,

Take it week by week... Don't worry further than that.

Hang in there. It is a matter of time before the government shuts them and you are isolating next week. Depending on how many teachers at your school hand in their 44 letters it may have to move to online before then. Flowers
Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 14:19

Here puffins www.expressandstar.com/news/education/2021/01/03/wolverhampton-council-writes-to-secretary-of-state-in-plea-to-keep-schools-closed-amid-fears-new-strain-is-in-city/ not sure about closures but it looks like they're leaning it that way.

WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 14:20

Thank you Beebityboo I wonder if Dudley council will follow.
