@Nellodee That schools data is from an ONS study -

www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/bulletins/covid19schoolsinfectionsurveyround1england/november2020

they did note that -
"!The study design (which over-samples schools in areas of England where COVID-19 infection was highest at the start of the academic year) means the data presented are not intended to be generally applicable to all schools in England. Data in this bulletin are also unweighted.

!The following findings should be seen as indicative only and are not statistically significant. Associated confidence intervals should be used to assess the statistical significance of the difference."

New thread, hopefully for good news within the next few days 🤞

InterfectoremVulpes · 28/12/2020 11:16

Sorry if its in the op and I cant see for looking, but where can we see the vaccination numbers?

MRex · 28/12/2020 11:23

Thanks for the thread. Does it count as data or analysis that most times Gove pronounces something, the opposite happens? Awaiting schools announcement. (I'd guess exam years only and in masks.)

on the gov dashboard, under Healthcare at the bottom

QueenStromba · 28/12/2020 11:28

Well they've definitely got to do something about the schools as we know from the last lockdown that the tier 4 restrictions as they stand aren't enough against the new strain.

Correlation doesn't equal causation, as they say ;-) but I do sometimes suspect they enjoy making him look daft ;-)

Yep, Gove seems to be sent to say things that are actively wrong, Hancock does all the 'not actually saying anything at all' statement (or they send out one of the scientists, not a politician to do that if they just want to tell us all off but announce no change), Johnson does anything that could be construed as good news.

Thanks for the new thread. And good to see the vaccination numbers now on the dashboard. Does anyone know when they'll update this next? It says weekly, but it was last updated on the 20th, which is 8 days ago

Don't like that tweet at the bottom re possible idea of link between lab outbreak and new strain.....

Witchend · 28/12/2020 14:04

I suspect that even with full PPE there is always a chance of it getting through. It will only take a moment of carelessness or something someone hasn't thought of. Then once one person has it, they will be mixing outside the labs a bit, not in full PPE.
If lots of the labs (and front line NHS staff) start reporting it then begin to worry, but one outbreak looks more like an accident.

DecemberStar - Don't like that tweet at the bottom re possible idea of link between lab outbreak and new strain.....

I'm really troubled by this - what gives the idea of a link between the lab outbreak and the new strain?

The idea of a link suggests to me some element of cause and effect - i.e. the outbreak there caused the new strain. Apologies if i've misunderstood, but can you clarify?

I've read the article and links and they point largely to a lack of adequate bubbling, canteen mixing mentioned more than once. What have I missed?
