And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

Well done everyone involved. I can imagine it would have been a positive experience !

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/12/2020 19:31

How fabulous. I love this. Well done to all those clever scientists for making the vaccine.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/12/2020 19:31

Hurray! Congratulations!

pompey38 · 12/12/2020 19:32

pompey38 · 12/12/2020 19:33

Mooey89 · 12/12/2020 19:34

I felt like this doing my staff home test the other day and getting the results back in 30 mins. Feels so exciting and like the end is in sight. Well done everyone involved today, glad you had a good experience. Keep us updated with how you feel!

TeenPlusTwenties · 12/12/2020 19:35

Super. My 90 year old Dad has just told me he's getting the vaccine next week. (A bit worried about going to a hospital as they've not been anywhere except medical stuff since March, but def going to do it.) Finally feels like there is progress. Smile

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 19:39

For those asking I feel totally fine at the moment, injection site is a bit tender.

I wasn't expecting to have it today, had last minute call up and obviously jumped at the chance. The place was heaving (in a socially distanced way) so there is excellent up take of the offer.

Feels like progress! Will be so relieved to have the 2nd in 1st week of January.

SquirtleSquad · 12/12/2020 19:45

This might seem like an incredible stupid question but after you've had both jabs are you then free to live your life as normal?

Plsv87 · 12/12/2020 19:50

Yay!!

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 19:53

@SquirtleSquad they have no evidence on this vaccine stopping transmission so I could still pass it on to someone who hasn't been.

I don't think we will be able to for. Long time

OP posts:
PuzzledObserver · 12/12/2020 19:53

Do you have a definite appointment for your 2nd jab?

Did they read you the riot act about still following the rules?

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 19:57

@PuzzledObserver I do have a follow up on 5th January.
They didn't give my advice re social distance. It was all health and social care staff so hopefully not needed.

I thought 80 year olds plus and care home residents were supposed to be vaccinated in the December rollout? Are you even frontline NHS? :/

Vargas · 12/12/2020 20:06

That's great news! only 60+ million people to go... Wink

VioletCharlotte · 12/12/2020 20:07

Well done OP. My trust are beginning the role out on Tuesday. The amount of work that's gone into getting to this point is incredible. I, very proud of the NHS are managing this.

bloodpressureboiling · 12/12/2020 20:07

History in the making. I had mine on Wednesday. So grateful. Thanks to all the scientists and health care workers worker around the clock to make this possible.
The best feeling ever.
No side effects. Slight tender upper arm the next day, but feeling gone now. I've read that there will probably be some/most immunity 7 days after first dose. Second dose in a month. Bring it on!

BerriesAndPineCones · 12/12/2020 20:07

Glad you got the chance to have it op as you are at risk from working in the nhs and in a vulnerable category and can now carry on your good nhs work Smile

Cinderellashoes · 12/12/2020 20:07

@TunMahla the vaccine is currently being offered to those over 80 who have a hospital appointment soon, care home staff and health care workers who are high risk.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:12

@Tunmahla yes for your info I am absolutely front line. I happen to have an at risk condition also.
I was offered for my job role not my health condition.
As I said this was an unexpected offer, it was going to be used for another priority sector but the logistics weren't possible today so they at very last minute put it open to those close at hand.

Problem?

Yay! Congrats op - I’m well jel. I actually am quite concerned that I’m going to cry when it’s my turn (I’m so cool)

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:19

@Mybedislisting I felt a little overwhelmed too.
Having worked through with the risk at the back of my mind I couldn't be any more delighted.
I did take a picture too! And I remember the vaccinators name was Sarah! ☺️ will remember her forever

Bluetrews25 · 12/12/2020 20:19

Really glad to hear you have had the jab. Our trust was meant to be rolling it out from this week, but they are only doing it at a site about 10 miles away (huge trust) so no idea when we will get it down at our end.
All the defrosted vaccines have to be administered within a fairly short time frame, so far better to give to any staff around if no patients available.
Congratulations!

Mybedislisting · 12/12/2020 20:21

@foodtoorder Ah that’s so lovely - it’s like remembering the midwife who delivers your baby with such fondness

I’m going to have my photo too - might make myself a badge 😂

TunMahla · 12/12/2020 20:28

@foodtoorder Not a problem per se but posts like that can come across as gloating. The vaccine is a highly prized commodity in short supply now with only highly vulnerable groups priorised. Back in March, if one had the good fortune of working at a supermarket and being able to source some of those precious tomato tins and bags of pasta, would one be plastering photos of your full larder all over the Instagram? Don't think so... if they had a modicum of sensitivity.
