And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

Excited for you - and just a little jealous!

RubyViolet · 12/12/2020 21:06

Congratulations 👏 what a relief for you ! Roll on January 5th for your second dose.
My Doctor cousin who works in an A&E setting had his this week. He filmed it (discreetly and with permission) for the family, we were all crying with relief .. we have been so worried about him as he is as frontline as it gets.
This is so welcome ❤️

userxx · 12/12/2020 21:08

Wooohooo burn the mask.

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 12/12/2020 21:11

Congratulations and thank you for posting - the COVID vaccination, whichever one it is, really needs to be demythologised and people need to learn not to fear. I just found out today that I have been picked for a trial of another vaccine, call-up likely after Christmas. I'm NHS staff too, not frontline though, so rightly a low priority. But I'm glad to be part of the provision of a range of vaccines, so that in the end there will be one for the vast majority of people that is safe to take. DD1 has been picked too - she has asthma.

SignOnTheWindow · 12/12/2020 21:13

Great news @foodtoorder! A relief to know that vaccines aren't going to waste because of logistical issues.

My MIL gets hers next week at the GP (not her usual GP - I think this one's next to a community hospital). So chuffed.

SpeckledyHen · 12/12/2020 21:13

Wonderful news OP . I’m champing at the bit to get mine in group 5 .

Skipsurvey · 12/12/2020 21:14

woo hoo, yay
so exciting

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 21:15

@ArrowsOfMistletoe wow good luck with the trials. I signed up but never heard back.
We totally need to de myth this and support the role out.
I value individual right but it does seem a lot of negativity around the vaccines themselves is from lack of knowledge or information.
Hopefully more people will be posting in the coming weeks to help.

That’s brilliant news

I feel pleased when I hear of people having the vaccine. The sooner life shall return to so form of normality that so many will be able to see their families again is something to celebrate

timetest · 12/12/2020 21:19

That’s great. Starting the vaccine program is a positive note to end 2020 on.

Noflora · 12/12/2020 21:19

Today was a bit shit here. This thread has cheered me up no end. Thank you for sharing foodtoorder

Ellmau · 12/12/2020 21:20

Congratulations!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/12/2020 21:22

This is brilliant and I'm really pleased for you. Each person vaccinated is another reduced risk and that will benefit us all eventually.

VimFuego101 · 12/12/2020 21:22

Congrats, OP. I'm really glad to hear they have a backup list of people to call on so all the vaccines get used and none wasted.

stepawayfromthekeyboard · 12/12/2020 21:23

It is good news: good for the OP and good for the NHS. There are over 80s and care home staff getting it at the same time.
My relative who sees hundreds of Covid patients every shift and has risk factors got one at the end of a batch, and while it is great they managed to, it is only part of the way there because the family that relative goes home to every night with a germy uniform to be washed in the family machine and to use the one shared bathroom won't be getting it for months and months, if at all.

isawthat · 12/12/2020 21:24

This is a great post! Congratulations!

Doublebubblebubble · 12/12/2020 21:25

Well done OP. So jealous of you right now!!

Chalfontstgiles · 12/12/2020 21:29

Question OP...because the vaccine is stored at very cold temps, does it feel freezing when injected or not? Just curious really! 😁

sallysparrow157 · 12/12/2020 21:30

Wonder if you work in the same hospital as me? I was in overnight last night and we found out late afternoon yesterday that they’d have availability for our staff this afternoon so we were phoning round our colleagues who have risk factors to get them booked in!

coastergirl · 12/12/2020 21:30

Amazing. It's so nice to have some hope. Thank you for sharing.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 21:32

@chalfontstgiles it wasn't cold no, I was expecting the same!

OP posts:
maddiemookins16mum · 12/12/2020 21:33

Good for you, that’s brilliant. Look at where we all were 6 months ago and now we have fellow MNetters having at the vaccine, it’s bloomin marvellous 🥰🥰

HmmSureJan · 12/12/2020 21:33

The vaccine is a highly prized commodity in short supply now with only highly vulnerable groups priorised. Back in March, if one had the good fortune of working at a supermarket and being able to source some of those precious tomato tins and bags of pasta, would one be plastering photos of your full larder all over the Instagram? Don't think so... if they had a modicum of sensitivity

Sorry this is just such a silly analogy. No one has any concerns about the safety of process of getting hold of a couple of tins of toms. It's jogging like the same. We need to hear about the vaccine, what the experience was like etc.

Your jealousy beams out of the thread.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 21:33

@sallysparrow157 ooooh small world so quite possibly. However it wasn't just staff with risk factors just anyone who could get a slot.

A great post OP, thank you for sharing. This is a wonderful thing and we should all be thankful. Better days are coming. x
