And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

@foodtoorder good for you but a lot of people reading this thread aren't HCPs and there's been news articles of elderly people hugging grand children because they think now they've been vaccinated they are immune.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 22:03

@BungleandGeorge ofcourse, that seems so sensible now I've read it.
This is exactly info sharing we need.

OP posts:
kateandme · 12/12/2020 22:05

i do think they need to make it clear no "burning" of the mask after and hugging etc.im hearing this from too many people. you can quite [possibly still transmit so everyone needs to be vaccinated to be safe!

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 22:06

@PleaseLetIanBeDead
Yes they were being very rigid on it and turned away two people while I was there on that basis.

I have a very minor allergy, more of a sensitivity. The consultant talked me through it and was happy to prescribe.

OP posts:
Zestie · 12/12/2020 22:06

Exactly @kateandme - especially tough for those of us who have just found out we cannot get vaccinated and are CEV. Really hope everyone is sensible with this as I am actually more scared now than I was in the height of the pandemic.

SallyLovesCheese · 12/12/2020 22:07

As a teacher I'm totally jealous you've had it already! I wish teachers were further up the ladder. As it is, I'll be in the last group to have it.

But that's MY issue, not yours! So pleased for you, you can continue to work feeling a bit safer and helping others to get well. It's great the vaccine is underway even before Christmas!

BungleandGeorge · 12/12/2020 22:07

👍 I think the points about taking 14 days after the second dose to be considered immune and the lack of data to say you don’t transmit it to other people are really important to get out there! Not just for the person being vaccinated but for family and friends.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/12/2020 22:08
@foodtoorder Not a problem per se but posts like that can come across as gloating. The vaccine is a highly prized commodity in short supply now with only highly vulnerable groups priorised. Back in March, if one had the good fortune of working at a supermarket and being able to source some of those precious tomato tins and bags of pasta, would one be plastering photos of your full larder all over the Instagram? Don't think so... if they had a modicum of sensitivity.
Don't be ridiculous!

It's lovely to hear people getting the vaccine, whether elderly, vulnerable, or front line. They ALL deserve it. Would you prefer it was wasted if it's not done in YOUR preferred order. I'd support all NHS staff getting it as a priority, but actually it makes THEM safer (& less over worked) if the elderly are done first, but frankly, anyone getting it is a GOID thing.

So why don't you take your nasty bitter attitude elsewhere, you're ruining what was a lovely thread.

And yes, if a supermarket staff member working in March had got pasta & tomatoes in March I'd have been pleased for them too...

Because I'm fucked if I think getting pasta or the vaccine sooner in any way compensates for doing those jobs!

Notcrackersyet · 12/12/2020 22:08

The vaccine has made it to mumsnet :-)
Thanks for posting OP. I’m delighted for you.

PleaseLetIanBeDead · 12/12/2020 22:09

@foodtoorder Do you know what allergies / reactions they are turning away?

Zestie · 12/12/2020 22:11

@PleaseLetIanBeDead anyone who has had a s Significant allergic reaction to food, medicine or a vaccination previously- there's been a statement on it released a couple of days ago.

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2020 22:12

So good to hear

Amazing work to get us to this stage

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 22:13

@PleaseLetIanBeDead I do not know what they turned away but the screener sucked her teeth when I declared mine.
They obviously are being exceptionally careful.
The questions were so you have an allergy? Ever had anaphylaxis? Do you carry an epi pen. I think a yes to any of them then it could be a no.

OP posts:
Zestie · 12/12/2020 22:14

Wait, so you have an allergy and you still got a vaccination?

May I ask what it is too please? And do you carry an epi pen?

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 22:15

It is an obscure sensitivity. I do not carry an epi pen. Never had anaphylaxis.

OP posts:
Zestie · 12/12/2020 22:16

Ah ok, thank you :-)

BungleandGeorge · 12/12/2020 22:16

It has to be a significant allergy E.g. anaphylaxis/ you carry an epi-pen, have needed hospital treatment type

Zestie · 12/12/2020 22:17

I know - I have read the statement (and got the letter, phone calls cancelling my vaccination), just wondered what the OPs case was, which she has now explained :-)

GalesThisMorning · 12/12/2020 22:18

Woo-hoo!!! One teeny tiny step closer to us all being safer and the end of this pandemic!! Thank you scientists and the NHS. Let's do this!

MadameTuffington · 12/12/2020 22:19

This is a famtastic uplifting post OP - I am a careworker, scheduled to get vaccine next week - I couldn’t be prouder of the scientific community and their brilliance in achieving this - all the best to you xx

Don't be too despondent, when the Astra Zenica one is approved, they will re look at who will get it when and I'm sure occupation will push teachers much higher up the list, plus the volume available will mean it all happens much more quickly. I'd be happy for all school staff to get it before me & I have underlying (I think I'm group 6 on the current list).
foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 22:22

@galesthismorning exactly! Not for me as an individual but there were hundreds of people booked in to the clinic I was at today from across health and social care, so which ever way it comes as long as it doesn't get wasted it's getting the job done.

OP posts:
PleaseLetIanBeDead · 12/12/2020 22:23

Iv had the beginning of a anaphylaxis to penicillin while in A&E so sorted very quickly i did begin to swell, was given a injection but not oxygen it is down on my records as anaphylaxis to pencillian

My issue is this vaccine was going to be my life line, iv been indoors since March (havent been out at all)
I really need this vaccine and the thought of not having it, well, i can not stay in for much longer its been 9 MONTHS , im 37.
But got so many health conditions if i catch Covid i will likely die ....

The good fortune of working in a supermarket at the start of a pandemic and being able to source some tinned tomatoes from the ravaged shelves?

This made me laugh a lot.

Well when we've got WfH social care staff who are in the first tranche I believe it isn't just your problem, it's a disgrace.
