And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

I had mine yesterday, arm is a bit tender today. It was a lovely atmosphere, it's the first opportunity many of us have had to see colleagues without PPE for some time and it felt like a social event! All socially distant, shouting across the room to each other.
Hats off to the logistical organisation in our HB. It was like a military operation, security were on the door!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/12/2020 20:33

Totally disagree TunMahla.

Hearing about people getting vaccinated gives us hope that this awful thing is going to be over one day.

Even more importantly, people sharing their joy at getting vaccinated may well help influence people who have been scared by some of the misinformation and anti vax propaganda going around and make them more likely to have it and thus ultimately save lives.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:35

@TunMahla nothing goady about it at all. I was merely sharing how proud I am of the health services or anyone involved in making the vaccine happen. This isn't about me having the vaccine as an individual. I recognise it as part of the bigger picture. Having the vaccine available to anyone is something to be proud of surely?
Sorry if you're offended but I'm not sorry for sharing.

Really happy for you OP. Not gloating at all...glad you shared the moment. My grandma was vaccinated this week and I cry with happiness every time I think about it.

LH1987 · 12/12/2020 20:36

Thanks for sharing! It’s nice to know we are slowly going to get back to normality.

It has made me laugh that you have been accused of being braggy about getting a vaccine, Mumsnet really attracts both some amazing people and some bitter trolls 😂

fadingfast · 12/12/2020 20:37

I think any frontline healthcare worker should quite rightly be shouting from the roof tops if they’ve been lucky enough to get the vaccine. They absolutely deserve to share a moment of joy after this complete bastard of a year.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:39

@napody that makes me so happy! Hope you get to hug/share time with her safely soon.

This is absolutely what it's about.

Great news! Thanks for sharing OP

AethelsWhiteGoose · 12/12/2020 20:41

Not gloating op at all, I’m very happy for you. I lost my grandad last week to covid, he caught it in hospital after he popped in for a routine eye procedure. I’m so sad that he just missed out on being vaccinated.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 12/12/2020 20:42

I take it you haven't grown a second head and are now remote controlled my Bill Gates thenGrin

Seriously I am very pleased for you. My mother inlaw gets her first jab next week. After months of worrying it will be such a relief once completed.

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:43

@AethelsWhiteGoose I'm so sorry for your loss.

Love hearing that people are getting the vaccine and absolutely right to share the experience to help reassure us all.

Drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls · 12/12/2020 20:45

That’s great you had the vaccine! Just a bit confused tho when you say about transmission? Can you pass covid to someone from having the jab? I thought having a vaccine would give you immunity therefore you wouldn’t be able to catch it/pass it on to anyone?

rainbowruthie · 12/12/2020 20:46

Congratulations, I am genuinely delighted for you

Poppingnostopping · 12/12/2020 20:47

Great that NHS staff are being vaccinated, less chance of them being off, or really ill or even dying. Glad it went well OP.

IdblowJonSnow · 12/12/2020 20:48

OP. Your post didnt come across as goady to me in the slightest.
Really pleased to hear you've had it - bloody hell you've been risking your health all year, you absolutely deserve it.

NaturalStudy · 12/12/2020 20:48

Some people on here have an extraordinary victim complex. Well done OP and thanks for sharing to encourage others.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 12/12/2020 20:50

Thanks for sharing OP.

The thought that a frontline HCP with an underlying condition who has been looking after other people for the last 9 months Is 'gloating' about getting the vaccine is just warped.

MarcelineMissouri · 12/12/2020 20:51

How ridiculous to compare getting the vaccine to managing to source some pasta Hmm

I too am genuinely thrilled to hear of people getting the vaccine for whatever reason, because that is hopefully going to be one less person getting ill and one more step closer to normality!! V happy for you op x

AgnesNaismith · 12/12/2020 20:52

Congratulations OP Flowers

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:52

@drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls (great username btw) sorry to confuse.
I won't transmit from the vaccine.
After having the vaccines I will have (hopefully) 90something percent protection but if I pick up the virus somewhere I could still transmit it to others without it affecting me (hopefully)
Hope that makes sense.

Of all of the threads to be offended by Grin Grin Grin

I’m thrilled for you OP. Reading posts about people being vaccinated lift my spirits. And agree it’s a good antidote to some of the weird anti-vax conspiracy theories.

Absolutely fantastic news! I'm grinning from ear to ear reading this thread. I think I will cry too when I eventually get it, long way off but still.

As for poster saying you're gloating, only on here! 🤣

Ifonlyicouldliveinmypjs · 12/12/2020 20:57

Thank you for sharing and fantastic news that you were able to get vaccinated. I totally agree that we need far more positive stories like this, especially from health care professionals to reassure people that the vaccine is a good thing and safe for almost all of us.
I work in social care and will absolutely be getting the vaccine at the first opportunity. However I have been very concerned and surprised at the number of colleagues who don’t seem to want it - the same people who have spent the last 9 months despairing at the situation we have all been in. It’s making me worry that the vaccine won’t be the way out of this nightmare that I had hoped if take up is poor.
As for people questioning or criticising why you were able to get it - for goodness sake - the NHS is absolutely prioritising those in most need and it sounds like OP meets this criteria anyway but we have all heard about the logistical challenges of the vaccine and surely it is better to offer it out to anyone available than see part of a batch go to waste!

foodtoorder · 12/12/2020 20:58
