And I feel a little liberated.
There was a great buzz at the hospital like everyone was pleased to be doing their bit, admin, hca's to deputy director of nursing and medical consultants working on a Saturday to get the job done.

Really succinct information giving to make informed decisions for anyone with concerns, great follow up service.
Couldn't be prouder to work in the NHS or as someone with an at risk condition, having this service looking out for me.
Just wanted to share!

Thank you op for your updates.

I have been working with covid since March on the wards.
I am asthmatic too. If we had to many coviids on the ward I would get moved to a safer ward with less covid.
I do feel very privileged to be offered this vaccine so soon.
Just concerned about effects it has in the future.

I quess I dnt know enough about it, but I'm more worried about getting covid than the vaccine itself

Thank you for this thread op it does make me feel better and very very proud

PeppermintSoda · 16/12/2020 00:21

I saw Prue Leith on TV having it today.

lovelemoncurd · 16/12/2020 00:41

It's all good news because the more people that are vaccinated the sooner we get out of this horror.

8thplace · 16/12/2020 08:13

I am having vaccine today. 50s frontline FT band 7 nurse NHS, but community specialist not acute sector.

I am also starting antidepressants today for the first time ever . I will continue working but am so burnt out, exhausted and empty Im so low I'm not even excited about having the vaccine, tears are never far away, thats how bad my mental health is as a result of this awful year.

Flowers, 8thplace. Thank you for putting yourself at risk and soldiering on through this awful year. I am sorry it has taken such a toll. I wish I could give you a big hug and some chocolate!

I had mine yesterday and felt incredibly privileged. Our local Trust has opened it up to Community Care staff who have been incredible working ceaselessly throughout the lock downs with some of the most vulnerable citizens in their own homes. And they didnt get to enjoy the Clap for the NHS and the general (totally merited) adulation that frontline NHS staff were awarded.

Some of the judgey posts on here really irritate me. Yeah like everything, some people assessed as more at risk may get theirs later than a cleaner in the NHS (as commented on earlier) - but that Trust may have Vaccine to use up (its very timebound) - or may have decided that keeping the wards clean is a key objective.

It was a joyous-easy and pain free experience for me.

Riv12345 · 16/12/2020 09:04

@8thplace

I know where you are coming from.
I was on a night shift the other night and I just burst out crying!
I carried on the 12 hour shift.
Felt better after a good cry. But we shouldn't have to feel like this.
I have been on antidepressants for over 20 years!
I'm fine most of the time but some the pressure just builds up.

Then I keep getting mixed messages about the vaccine!
In a way I am very happy and proud to have this vaccine and take my hat off to the scientists for working so hard for this.

Let us know how you get on with the vaccine.
But I honestly know where you are coming from. Take care.

Frazzled2207 · 16/12/2020 09:20

@8thplace and @Hobbesmanc

Am really pleased for both of you .Hopefully having it alleviates some of the stress in time for Christmas. I have no qualms whatsoever about people in your positions having it as a matter of priority alongside the 80+s.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/12/2020 09:41

@PeppermintSoda

I saw Prue Leith on TV having it today.
Yes saw that too

Lovely of her to let them photo it. Think it will help encourage people to take up the vaccine.

Hopefully more people the public know and trust will do the same. Send out a message that it isn't so scary. Just a regular jab to protect you and your loved ones.

PeppermintSoda · 16/12/2020 09:42

Mary Berry must be about that age too

PeppermintSoda · 16/12/2020 09:43

What about David Attenborough and the Queen.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 09:48

I am happy to report that Reg who goes to my local Costa a lot is getting it soon too. Smile

Well be happy for Reg. You don't have a clue why he's been offered it. Maybe he does home care calls every morning, or he volunteers in a soup kitchen or possibly he has a mate of a mate who let him jump the queue. So what. Unless you know that stop assuming and focus on your own behavior!
TeenPlusTwenties · 16/12/2020 10:18

Hobbes I think TheCountess was being genuinely happy (hence the smile), not sarcastic!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 10:32

Oh fgs Hobbes, of course I was being happy for Reg, that was the point!

Hobbesmanc · 16/12/2020 10:37

Oh gosh! So sorry my total bad xxx

Please forgive xx

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 10:40

Seriously Hobbes, so I don’t make the mistake again, what on earth is it about my post that made you think I was being nasty? You have actually made me cry - I know this is an overreaction but this was such a nice thread and I have always posted positively on it so what have I done to make you think I am such a cow as to mean it like that?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 10:41

X post. Sorry. We’re all good x

TeenPlusTwenties · 16/12/2020 10:48

Now that's cleared up Smile what i want to know is, is everyone being given stickers, or just my DF?

DM said everyone else going in looked so much older and more frail than DF. He is 90, but promised not to go up ladders over lockdown. By Sept he was up them again clearing gutters. GrinShock

PeppermintSoda · 16/12/2020 11:32

Grin Sounds like my grandad who was hacking at undergrowth to clear it at 90. He'd been smoking roll ups for years too!

Primulachristmas · 16/12/2020 11:59

My mum had hers this morning Smile

Me too - like things are actually getting better. Best Christmas present.

We have three 'oldies' in our family, my Aunt (86) got her first jab on Monday, and we've just been told that the other couple (early 80's) are getting their first jab on Saturday.

Credit where credit's due - this seems to be running pretty well. Also heard of other elderly people getting called soon. Can't wait for my shout, although I suspect it could be a while!

Signaturesoftheworkers · 16/12/2020 14:56

TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Hugs to you xx I think there is so much angst and negativity about right now, people are very uptight. I grinned massively when you mentioned Reg, the written word is so easy to misinterpret but I feel so happy reading this thread and pleased for him xx
