Yes.
Community infections are still around despite lockdown, my hospital in the north (where infections have come down thankfully) is still admitting a steady number of positive patients. In areas that are tier 2 but with an steady increase of infections the Xmas build up and festivities could be a covid spreader.
People are thinking the vaccine will end everything quickly, where in truth very few will be vaccinated before we get the shit show of brexit. Vaccination even if we have good supply and no major issues will takes months to get through the top priorities before the general population that want it. Feels like it will bring a false sense of security before it’s effects are felt, mainly cos we are all fed up if it all.
Christmas shopping is bringing out the shoppers ( great for shops and the economy) however lots not distancing, not mask wearing, massive queues at night for places like primark which outside the store might be ok, but then there’s the till queues....
Then we get Christmas. Where covid will disappear for a few days so people can celebrate and mix with others if they choose too.
The lag for hospital admissions/deaths from any infections over Christmas could work into mid January before we see it really spiking again. January is also the worst month generally for admissions, maybe this will ease with less spread of winter illnesses due to social distancing, masks and lockdowns. Who knows.
I reckon the government are already planning a lockdown/mini lockdown for end of jan/February to be honest.
