Yes

Bingowin · 06/12/2020 00:16

I would have thought so. The infection rates are bound to go up after the Christmas week.

DramaAlpaca · 06/12/2020 00:16

Almost certainly, yes.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/12/2020 00:18

Well yes given the threads on Christmas and New Year on here.

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/12/2020 00:22

Yeah.

thereinmadnesslies · 06/12/2020 00:22

Yep

FluffySocks75 · 06/12/2020 00:23

Of course

Chloemol · 06/12/2020 00:51

Yes bearing in mind the number of people just on this forum who are not following the rules because they can’t possibly apply to them because you know they use common sense, see every family member they can daily and all the rest

HedgieHog · 06/12/2020 00:52

What @Chloemol says
100%

imamearcat · 06/12/2020 00:53

No. I think it will be a short enough period that that R rate won't really ramp up and with cases generally now going out, it will slow the decrease but not to such an extent of another lock down. I hope!

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 06/12/2020 00:54

Most likely

The numbers of people crowding into shops in inevitable

Plus people meeting up at Christmas

BananaPop2020 · 06/12/2020 00:54

Without question

hedwigismyowl · 06/12/2020 00:55

Yes due to the mixing of people for Christmas, spreading it to everyone else!

ceeveebee · 06/12/2020 00:55

I think it depends on how quickly the vaccine rolls out. If as JVT says, this batch will eliminate 99% of hospitalisations and deaths then why lockdown even if cases do rise?

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 06/12/2020 00:56

We're pretty much in one now, the tiers will be in place until at least February, with the exception of the Christmas break.

FinallyFluid · 06/12/2020 00:56

Without a shadow of a doubt.

CaffeineInfusion · 06/12/2020 01:08

Possibly not.

I think tier 3 will be countrywide instead. And shops will stay open, but normal January belt tightening will mean they won't be busy.

But to be honest, the last lockdown wasn't actually a lockdown, was it?

MercyBooth · 06/12/2020 01:58

Tell that to the hairdressers and the independent shops.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/12/2020 06:16

Possibly although the tier system is just as strict in some places. I'm tier 3 and it's basically lockdown.

Daisychainsandglitter · 06/12/2020 06:53

Would have thought so. We are now in tier 3 anyway which like a PP said is basically lockdown. We have been under additional restrictions here since September and getting v fed up now so hoping very much that there isn't another lockdown in January.

Mintjulia · 06/12/2020 07:12

Yes, having seen pictures of Borough Market yesterday, and the Xmas fayre in Nottingham.

60,000 people are dead and they still think their fun is more important Sad

"I think it depends on how quickly the vaccine rolls out. If as JVT says, this batch will eliminate 99% of hospitalisations and deaths then why lockdown even if cases do rise?"

Because no-one will be fully vaccinated before Christmas???

RosieLemonade · 06/12/2020 07:36

People have been living under restrictions for 8 months. You can’t ask them to put their lives on hold forever. Yes it’s very sad 60,000 people have died but a large proportion of them were very very elderly and would have died anyway.
ChasingRainbows19 · 06/12/2020 07:53

Yes.

Community infections are still around despite lockdown, my hospital in the north (where infections have come down thankfully) is still admitting a steady number of positive patients. In areas that are tier 2 but with an steady increase of infections the Xmas build up and festivities could be a covid spreader.

People are thinking the vaccine will end everything quickly, where in truth very few will be vaccinated before we get the shit show of brexit. Vaccination even if we have good supply and no major issues will takes months to get through the top priorities before the general population that want it. Feels like it will bring a false sense of security before it’s effects are felt, mainly cos we are all fed up if it all.

Christmas shopping is bringing out the shoppers ( great for shops and the economy) however lots not distancing, not mask wearing, massive queues at night for places like primark which outside the store might be ok, but then there’s the till queues....

Then we get Christmas. Where covid will disappear for a few days so people can celebrate and mix with others if they choose too.

The lag for hospital admissions/deaths from any infections over Christmas could work into mid January before we see it really spiking again. January is also the worst month generally for admissions, maybe this will ease with less spread of winter illnesses due to social distancing, masks and lockdowns. Who knows.

I reckon the government are already planning a lockdown/mini lockdown for end of jan/February to be honest.

ChasingRainbows19 · 06/12/2020 07:58

@Daisychainsandglitter I feel your pain we’ve been in restrictions since July, we had 3 weeks maybe where we could meet inside. It’s never ending but kind of used to it. Would love a meal out tho!

@Mintjulia you can’t blame people for trying to get a bit of normality in we’ve been in restrictions for so long. However I’m sure things like that in areas where the rate is still high or even rising, will have an impact in 2/3 weeks time. People need to be more safe in some cases and take precautions but if it’s open they can go.
