Depends where you are. Wales = probably, England I'd say no. Areas will just move to tier 3. I may have misheard but I thought Boris said we won't go into lockdown again.

KindKylie · 06/12/2020 08:01

Don't forget that universities were one of the main drivers of increased rates in Spet/Oct and they will all be back mid Jan too having travelled far and wide before retuning to hmos and halls...

Strawberrycreamsundae · 06/12/2020 08:04

People have been living under restrictions for 8 months. You can’t ask them to put their lives on hold forever. Yes it’s very sad 60,000 people have died but a large proportion of them were very very elderly and would have died anyway
So that makes it alright does it? 😳😡
No wonder there will be yet more deaths with attitudes like this. So long as you’re elderly you’re dispensable then so others can ignore the rules and have a good time.
Selfish git 😡

Daisychainsandglitter · 06/12/2020 08:04

@ChasingRainbows19 I know! I would love to even be able just to meet someone for a coffee indoors at the moment!
Being sat outside to do anything is just not enjoyable-am hoping 2021 is a much better year for us all!

Nonamesavail · 06/12/2020 08:05

Yes, but I doubt anyone will listen.

WhoWants2Know · 06/12/2020 08:06

No, I think they'll get away with it. Schools being closed for two weeks, combined with lots of people having time off work, will actually reduce contacts for enough of the population that numbers don't surge.

AlwaysBehindTheCurve · 06/12/2020 08:08

Won’t make any difference to us if there is, we’re tier 3 even though we have 52 cases per 100k.

mantlepiece · 06/12/2020 08:11

I’m hoping most people will have had it soon, you would think so really. When they mass tested the students in the northern universities at the beginning of term nearly all of the positive cases (hundreds) were asymptomatic. Hope that relates to the country as a whole.

hopeishere · 06/12/2020 08:12

Yes. Even with schools closed if there's lots of inter family inside mixing then there will be more spread.

Most of the population won't be vaccinated until spring.

I'm in NI and I think most people think a lockdown is inevitable but it's a trade off for a "normal" Christmas.

ThatDamnKrampus · 06/12/2020 08:16

Yes, it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Bluethrough · 06/12/2020 08:17

I thought Boris said we won't go into lockdown again

Better start stockpiling then...... everything so far he has said will happen, hasn't and everything he said wouldn't happen, has.

I read (cant recall source so apologies,) that only a low percentage (less than 10%) of the population are believed to have had the virus (asymptomatically or symptomatically) - we ate not even vaguely close to everyone having had.
sofiaaaaaa · 06/12/2020 08:23

I hope not, the stop/start lockdown would be pretty draining. Hopefully things will start to normalise after vaccinations commence

MillieEpple · 06/12/2020 08:27

I dont think Jan. When schools and universities went back infection started low and it wasnt until Dec they 'locked down'
I think the general level of infection is higher than Sept but the tier 3 restrictions are very tough so it would be at least 6 weeks after christmas before hospitals were hit which would be Feb. I suppose it depends if a flu gets going and how well the vaccine goes.

midgebabe · 06/12/2020 08:36

Levels in hospitals are already high ( round here anyway) so likely , but not guaranteed, depends on Christmas really

Poppingnostopping · 06/12/2020 08:37

Don't forget that universities were one of the main drivers of increased rates in Spet/Oct and they will all be back mid Jan too having travelled far and wide before retuning to hmos and halls...

This return is being staggered over 5 weeks this time around, and most universities are doing mass testing before they leave, and mass testing when they arrive back, so we are not the source of the problem in our local area, according to public health. The university in some ways is reasonably easy to contain, all our students went into lockdown before everyone else, no household mixing all term, and rates have dropped dramatically now. So, there's no reason to think these students are still the source of all the problems, I think it's schoolchildren in schools without social distancing/parents interacting and working in the communities, and still hospitals/care homes, that are the places which are most risky.

confusedx3 · 06/12/2020 08:49

@Strawberrycreamsundae totally outrageous. it's not other peoples thought that they have died. covid is not the only thing in existence. as someone who suffers greatly with mental health I have been very fortunate not to relapse this year. it is a virus - spreading is literally what its suppose to do. we can briefly slow it down but the only thing that will completely stop it is a vaccine.

the blame game and making others feel that level of guilt for trying to get on with their lives has got to stop. people die every day. it's the one thing that is guaranteed!

confusedx3 · 06/12/2020 08:50

and before people jump on me about the vaccine not completely stopping it, I mean stopping the way we currently live ie. in and out of lockdowns and social distancing.

confusedx3 · 06/12/2020 08:50

fault* ffs

Suzi888 · 06/12/2020 08:51

Definitely

FlamingGoat · 06/12/2020 08:51

Yes. They have cancelled my driving test until Mid March and made all slots up to then unavailable (Scotland).
They did the same this March, it was booked for the first day of Lockdown, infact this is the third time its been cancelled thanks to T4 restrictions.
I'm on the point of giving up and getting a pony.

megletthesecond · 06/12/2020 08:54

I expect so. The 5 day Xmas window will be a nice little Petri dish for covid.
Third week in January should see the numbers increasing.

Yes there will.

In other fun facts, there is a specific board for Coronavirus where this has been discussed to death.

TheRubyRedshoes · 06/12/2020 09:12

Look at the states and the thanks giving fiasco.

Thankfully many people here are saying they won't mix, and if they do they will air the room, take other precautions....

But I think unless it's an incredibly mild Jan and Feb... I think they will be our worst months.
