Do we think this will be a vaccine update, a change to rules or just waffle?

Would be great if it could be held in the carpark of a landscape garden outlet.

Ha! I nominate B&Q in Peckham.

tenterden · 09/11/2020 13:45

@TheSeedsOfADream

It'll be waffle piffle piffle wiffle vaccine, stay at home, bravo, probably a bit of likening it all to being in the trenches, gung ho, wiffle piffle. And he'll say kick the vahrus (I've become increasingly fascinated by his random pronunciation of words, vahrus, cronavahrus etc)
Don't forget "restronz" Grin

🤣 🤣

Ijustcantcope · 09/11/2020 13:52

That articles says UK will get 10m doses by the end of the year so that’s enough to vaccinate 5m people. Not great really

laudemio · 09/11/2020 13:52

What is restronz?

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 09/11/2020 13:53

The vaccine will be distributed to NHS staff starting December and to gen pop in January. With hospitals distributing 1000s of doses a day

Waffle. Reminding people of the rules or else...

LindaEllen · 09/11/2020 13:54

Either an announcement about a vaccine or possible a tentative plan for Christmas?

People are having problems because by mid November I think most people know where they're going to be for Christmas. I can see us getting to the end of this lockdown and being none the wiser, and Bozza letting us know what we can/can't do with just days to go. People need to plan these things!

loobyloo1234 · 09/11/2020 13:55

Guessing as it's timed with the vaccine announcement that it'll be a road map of vaccine roll out - providing there are no side effects found between now and a month or 2's time. Spring next year no doubt will be a 'resume to some normality' is my expectation

Well, if they do ECV before the general population that aren't and you aren't ECV, you are welcome to the one I'd have.

Wouldnt a "dose" effectively mean 2 jabs though? (As 1 jab wouldnt be the full vaccination?) Or am I being overly optimistic. I also thought there were 4m doses from AstraZeneca?

That's the point isn't it- people need to plan but can't and won't be able to Any Christmas announcement is worthless this far before
MrsWhites · 09/11/2020 14:00

I also think it will be about mass testing, how it’s going in Liverpool, where next etc.

Reading the article on the BBC, it mentions vaccine doses need to be kept at minus 80, will be interesting to see how and where it is administered to people, this sort of cold storage is not going to be possible at your average GP surgery!

janinlondon · 09/11/2020 14:02

I think the news has already covered this haven't they? The Pfizer vaccine has to be stored at minus 70, and only research labs or hospitals have that equipment. The initial supply will be for the 1.5 million NHS staff and care home workers, from December. Then the 5+ million over 75s.

I think 5m people in the next month and a half would be pretty great? A few days ago people were expecting that rollout of a vaccine would start next spring.
Tanith · 09/11/2020 14:04

I wonder when he'll start emphasising his US birth and former dual nationality?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/11/2020 14:04

Vaccines at this stage are a red herring. There is no evidence that any of them protect against Covid. They provoke an immune response, but that's not the same thing. About 9 out of 10 vaccines that reach this stage of development turn out to be useless. If the current vaccines make any difference, it is probably marginal and short-lasting.

I think it probably does make sense to offer the vaccine to very vulnerable people on the off-chance that they work. We wouldn't normally do that but, given how dangerous Covid is for the elderly/vulnerable, it's justifiable to offer them the vaccine in the hope it might reduce risk to some extent. But the current vaccines are not going to get life back to normal for the rest of us.

I think an effective vaccine will probably be developed, but we are not there yet. It is cruel - but sadly typical of Johnson - to offer people false hope.

Always one! Hmm
DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/11/2020 14:07

Alas....I think that’s how I pronounce restaurant. Blush

Heard on news the vaccine manufacturers will make more by the end of this year if it’s needed. Government only pre-ordered 30million, but more can be ready.

Needs to be kept very deep frozen -70 don’t know if that will affect the roll out.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/11/2020 14:09

Well, I'm ecv and I'll be first in line the moment I'm called. As it happens, I'll be in round six, in the - sick but young - so I expect it will be quite some time but it's brilliant news all the same. 90% effective - that's just amazing.

MrsSugar · 09/11/2020 14:11

Probably just another load of shite.

The incompetent fuckwit probably isn’t even sure himself what it’s for

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 14:12

MissLucyEyelesbarrow, have you not seen the news today, or do you think Pfizer are lying?

MrsMichaelPalin · 09/11/2020 14:12

No doubt, he will be trying to claim credit for the vaccine even though he has absolutely nothing got to do with it *

*The fact he has nothing to do with it gives us hope - it might work !
