These pages all seem to have been about how the rules make no sense, there's no point while schools are open and people saying they'll assess their own risk but they're not going to risk their MH etc etc

Will this make a difference? It Doesn't matter what the rules are if no one follows them.

OP posts:
AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 31/10/2020 21:28

Yes I will follow the rules. I did during the first lockdown and have followed nearly all the rules since (yeah the rule of 6 was bent due to us being a household of 6 so we've just limited contact to only visiting grandparents and doing a 2 household rule instead).
Its just 4 weeks, the dc will still be at school, dh and I will still be at work (supermarket and school careers), no clubs have resumed for us anyway so its just weekends will be chilling out at home, same as the last 6 months. No biggy

pinkksugarmouse · 31/10/2020 21:32

Yes. If everyone thinks they are a special case then it won't work and more people will die.

@user1471588124

I wont comply fully. I live in a houseshare with strangers so cant form a support bubble but also cant see anyone i actually know, including my boyfriend. I just cant do it anymore, especially as i am a key worker and need to see someone i know to decompress as i work alone so cant chat to colleague's . Maybe you guys above think im wrong and selfish but complete isolation from anyone you know outside from 2m apart only is very very hard.
Why don't you get to know your housemates?
Birdsong111 · 31/10/2020 21:32

I will comply but then I’m lucky because I can work from home and so can my partner. This is going to lead to so many more people being laid off, losing their jobs, livelihoods and their homes. Our children will be paying for this long after we have gone. This isn’t going to go away anytime soon. We have to learn to live with it. I would rather risk catching Covid than losing my home and ending up in a bedsit with two children to try and look after.

Nanny0gg · 31/10/2020 21:34

@Rosebudsandraindrops

Can I ask a stupid support bubble question? I didn’t have a support bubble last time so this is new. I live with another adult but my friend doesn’t so we can be a bubble - that’s correct? So that means she can come to my house and I can go to hers? She is the only person me and the other adult in my house will be seeing. It’s not just outside or can I still only see her outside? In the cold 😬😬😬
A support bubble is treated as one household. So you can see her indoors.
wanderings · 31/10/2020 21:35

Will Dominic Scummings comply?

Will Stanley Johnson comply?

Will Margaret Ferrier comply?

Will they expect the plebs to comply?

Sunflowers247 · 31/10/2020 21:37

* I* have to work in unclean, unsafe conditions. No chance Im not having a drink at a friends house after that.

But why would you risk infecting your friend Shock?

SeverusSnape1 · 31/10/2020 21:37

I will not complying as my mental health will deteriorate to the point of becoming suicidal if I don't see my friends considering everything else that makes life living for has been taken away. I'm sure that makes me a selfish granny killer on mumsnet...

HelpFlattenTheCurve · 31/10/2020 21:38

I think they know that there will be spread within schools, but there will be some reduction in spread by closing other places where spread occurs, and they are really hoping that will be enough.

Also, if they closed the secondary schools it could hypothetically make the transmission even worse, if the students are out drinking and partying (with no social distancing) instead of doing their work in school (with inadequate social distancing, but probably more than at a party!)

It’s not an easy situation to manage. Anybody who can do basic arithmetic could see even back in August, that the numbers would, sooner or later, become high enough that tightening of measures would be inevitable. But many people were probably hoping for later instead of sooner.

The main light at the end of the tunnel is that progress is happening with treatments and vaccines. We don’t need a 100% effective vaccine; one that reduces the proportion of serious cases by 80-90% would be more than good enough to allow a strong return towards “normality”.

Lacenderseas · 31/10/2020 21:39

Shouldn't you take care not to infect your friend?!

Blahblahblahallthetime · 31/10/2020 21:40

You would have to be daft not to comply. Come on, we could potentially see tens of thousands more dead people.

I know lockdown is hard, especially for MH issues but no government is going to close down the economy unless absolutely necessary.

DominaShantotto · 31/10/2020 21:40

We’ve explicitly been told we can sit on park benches and have picnics so that takes away that option! I’m excited to see what they come up with too (well there’s fuck all else to be excited about!)

I give it till Saturday before there's some "decree" about the length of time you're allowed to sit on a park bench for.

The "milk is not an essential shopping item" will start by about Thursday lunchtime by previous standards.

We'll be wanting to shut down Amazon by Sunday.

Bluntness100 · 31/10/2020 21:40

Yes and I think enough folks will comply to make the lock down work. Even those breaking it, need to have someone to break it with. With all non essential shops etc closed there isn’t much folks can do, apart from socialise with each other, in their homes, which automatically gives limited groups.

PheasantPlucker1 · 31/10/2020 21:41

Sunflowers only my friends who are in the same boat!

I havent seen my parents for months now, I would willingly endanger anyone who hasnt already been fucked over

FeckArseDrinkGirls · 31/10/2020 21:41

I’ll be complying except for I will still be seeing my partner. He lives in a different county although still a low risk one. We both work from home, my kids go to school but not much else and I’m fucked if I’m not seeing him for another month.

user1471588124 · 31/10/2020 21:41

@Nanny0gg of course im trying to get to know my housemates, but we moved in together less than a month ago, all have differing work schedules and dont have much in common. A polite conversation with a relative stranger is nice, but is not a substitute for meaningful social contact.

PheasantPlucker1 · 31/10/2020 21:41

Wouldnt endanger anyone, even!

Lacenderseas · 31/10/2020 21:42

Yes, making sacrifices in other areas so that education and hospitals can stay open.

The aim is not to eliminate the virus, simply to slow down the spread.

That sounds really hard. Could you move in with your boyfriend for the month’s lockdown? Would that work?
annabel85 · 31/10/2020 21:43

@Whattodo1610

In my local area few are complying .... it boils my blood. There’s nothing to make people comply, nothing is done to those who are flouting every rule.

Instead of another lockdown, how about actually enforcing and policing existing rules.

Too many people in this country only respect discipline and enforcement. Without it they won't comply. There's no sense of decency.
MrsFezziwig · 31/10/2020 21:44

There won't be anything open, so how will you not comply?

The main way people are not complying (and one of the significant transmission routes IMO) is by mixing households. I do have an axe to grind about this as I feel it is much more likely to lead to an increased number of cases than me having a bit of a wander round TK Maxx (and with no benefit to the economy).

Stripyhoglets1 · 31/10/2020 21:46

Yes I'll comply and so will my family, its annoying but as schools are open my teenager will at least see freinds at school.
It's frustrating but hoping it gets numbers down again so hospitals can cope

Stripyhoglets1 · 31/10/2020 21:46

We're were going into tier 3 so numbers high round here too

HelpFlattenTheCurve · 31/10/2020 21:47

There are also measures that we can each follow regardless of how much or how little complying with restrictions we feel able to do:
-if you have relevant symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, or even with someone who has relevant symptoms but has not yet gotten a test result back, self-isolate unless it would be life-threatening not to do so. Because not self-isolating in that case actually is life-threatening.
-For every interaction that happens indoors for work, education, caregiving, or any other reason — First, try to move it outdoors. Then if that is not possible, open the windows before the interaction starts and keep them open until after it ends.
-Unless there is a medical exemption, wear a mask, and wear it properly: not down around the chin, then up over the face, then back down again. Use a new or a properly washed reusable mask for each mask-wearing occasion; change masks after having taken it off, instead of just putting the same used mask back on. Also avoid to have a mask that is over the mouth but hanging down below the nose, since that kind of defeats the purpose.
-learn not to touch your face
-also do proper handwashing and hand sanitising, and do it at the right times

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 21:49

@wheresmymojo

We'll comply as we have been doing the whole time, as has everyone I know in real life 🤷🏻‍♀️
^ This. Anybody who doesn't comply is a selfish fool of the highest order.
