The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

More people die from the flu!!!!!!

For god’s sake are people really still trotting this shit out?
How are we 8 months into this without people realising that this isn’t about deaths.
I really want to bang my head against the wall when I read this!

NowImmeagain · 30/10/2020 23:32
@Dawnlassie and that's a good thing is it? Kids stuck at home again? Because of a virus that doesn't affect them? Shall we just feck our kids lives up even more shall we.
It may not affect them, but they still spread it.

Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 23:32

@Burpeesshmurpees

Well I'll be breaking it next Saturday if it starts before then. It's my 2 of my DCs birthday and we've downgraded the party from their class to just 6 in total - so that's just 1 friend each. Then we've moved it out to the garden to comply with tier 2 and made it a fireworks party. I'm not bloody cancelling that now. Ffs
You do you, but plenty of people have had shitty lockdown birthdays. My dds have been 18 and 21 during lockdown/restrictions. No partiee for them.
HomerRoberts · 30/10/2020 23:33

Are governments incompetent all over Europe then?

Exactly this. It literally feels like history is repeating itself.

@Posteni1

Just done with this now. If this is what life is going to be, what is the point? Economy destroyed, social interaction destroyed.. all that makes us what we are gone. What is the point. I’d rather die.
This. I've got nothing to look forward to, no reason to be here. What's the point?
TheNewLook · 30/10/2020 23:33

All the sarcastic comments: “good thing the virus can’t get you until 10pm”, “virus doesn’t know how to get into schools” ha ha ha.

They are not trying to get rid of the virus. That’s not possible. They are trying to slow the spread. That is all. Fewer people in pubs for shorter periods of time means fewer not zero infections. Non-essential shops closing but schools remaining open means fewer infections, not zero infections.

HomerRoberts · 30/10/2020 23:34

Whereabouts do you live where you can hold a party for 30 people???

Dustballs · 30/10/2020 23:35

Boris backed himself into a corner when he stupidly said that schools will remain open. It's clear that schools and universities are driving the spread. Now he can't close them again without losing face.
He's a dick.

This is it.

MercyBooth · 30/10/2020 23:36

Whats made me really angry is the pretence that its all about protecting the vulnerable, NO Its all about using the vulnerable as a tool to emotionally blackmail everybody else.

Because if it was all about protecting the vulnerable they wouldnt be left for so long to cope with the symptoms and pain of the non Covid illnesses they have.

TheNewLook · 30/10/2020 23:36

I think it would be appalling to close schools.

ContraIndicated · 30/10/2020 23:37

@Burpeesshmurpees Neither of my kids have been able to have birthday parties this year, just like thousands of others. They coped, your kids will too.

I hate this attitude Sad

I had my birthday in the middle of full lockdown.
So did both DCs.
Did we say fuck it we'll do what we like?
No, we got takeaway, watched films and had cake.
There's no wonder we're still going on with sodding lockdowns now in OCT when people come out with that shit like "well we won't stick to it."

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 30/10/2020 23:37

@monkeytennis97, some children, yes. But probably not the ones whose parents can't afford to stay home to look after them, or afford to feed them, or the ones in substandard housing with mould on all the walls.

What a selfish attitude to have. We all have to make sacrifices. It's people like you that are contributing to these lockdowns having to happen.
GirlCrush · 30/10/2020 23:37

@Burpeesshmurpees

what if the friends comply and dont bother turning up

20 million or so people who were not necessarily circulating in the last lockdown (pupils and their families, school staff and their families) will be mixing and spreading in this one if schools are kept open. 10 million pupils and staff plus their families- that's a lot more contact points for the virus!
TheFairyGarden · 30/10/2020 23:37

Mine too. I guess our kids are not half as special as some people’s kids eh?

GirlCrush · 30/10/2020 23:38

how will we cope with no furlough??

Thegreymethod · 30/10/2020 23:38

@Versace104

Oh well, those on full wage, WFH, live with hubby and nice house and garden don't need to worry.
I'm sure those people still have things to worry about, having to homeschool children whilst trying to work from home can't be easy.
Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 23:38

Also, don't have fricking fireworks parties. Anti social bollocks.

Shizzlestix · 30/10/2020 23:39

They’ll keep schools open, so I’ll be working as usual. I think Bojo has resisted up til now due to not wanting to agree with Keir Starmer on his national lockdown idea.

Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 23:39

@GirlCrush

Didn't Andy Burnham manage to get enough cash to furlough his workers? They will have to furlough.
southeastdweller · 30/10/2020 23:40

@GirlCrush

The Mumsnet Magical Money Tree will support us all.
Dustballs · 30/10/2020 23:41

If schools and universities stay open now - we'll have to lockdown again - totally - a month or two later.

This government leaves everything too late. Delays the essential stuff. It's cowardly.

Every time they delay and avoid they make the problem worse.
