The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

OP can you ask MNHQ to edit the title?

@RedToothBrush

What ive been expecting tbh...

... The situation is now untenable without one.

What?

More people die from the flu!!!!!!

RedToothBrush · 30/10/2020 23:23

@TokyoSushi

I would agree that these 'leaked' stories from 'government sources' are becoming increasingly accurate, as is the trend of announcing major changes late at night/before the weekend. I'd be surprised if the story isn't pretty close to the truth. Brace yourselves folks.
Its always after 5 on a Friday before a monday when people are back in the office. Always!
Ozgirl75 · 30/10/2020 23:23

We did stay open last time, but it was only non essential shops that had to shut, businesses could stay open (and we’re a factory, not something they can do at home), but I read it that this time all non essential businesses would close.
Anyway, pointless speculating I suppose, I’ll just wait and see until Monday.

catchingzzzeds · 30/10/2020 23:23

@Remmy123

The only way to keep rates low is to keep everything shut and 'stay home .. save lives' until there is a vaccine!

But that ain't happening anything soon is it .. so - we need to live with it. Lockdown does not work!!!

Hospitals were not overwhelmed last time - nightingale had 40 people in it!

Lockdowns surely slow the infection down though and buy a more time?

We are also a factory! No way will they expect us to close.
DigitalChristmas · 30/10/2020 23:24

@Remmy123

They cannot shut schools etc why are everyone on this site wanting this to happen!!! Ffs
I don’t think people want it to happen as such it’s just they feel that a lockdown is futile without doing so.
Velvetpeel · 30/10/2020 23:25

@nicerbeing what to?

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/10/2020 23:25

Oh fgs not again. What will this one achieve that the last one didn't? Too many people still employed for you?

Fuck sake Hmm

winewolfhowls · 30/10/2020 23:25

Yes, I agree part classes are much more sensible and safer. Surely people would prefer a more stable part time routine that they can organise their own work around than constant on off isolating and testing of kids willy nilly.

monkeytennis97 · 30/10/2020 23:25

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis the impact on many young people's mental health is not great when bubbles are bursting, teachers and family members are getting sick and some are dying. That's already a sad reality for many and will be for many more. Many pupils live with CV and ECV family members and are in fear of bringing the virus home. Parents are in fear of the fines or other measures. Reports have suggested that for many children mental health improved in the last lockdown. I'm in no way minimising the mental health issues school closures may bring but there are other sides to this.

AlwaysLatte · 30/10/2020 23:26

As usual the Government are on a go-slow. We needed a total lockdown sooner, but hopefully next week it will happen.

Quaagars · 30/10/2020 23:27

Definitely true for me - it's not that I particularly want schools to close, they need their education but it does seem pointless having a lockdown if schools and colleges can mix every day - either lockdown properly like last time or don't have one at all.
These half lockdowns are ridiculous!

monkeytennis97 · 30/10/2020 23:27

@catchingzzzeds that is, sadly, what happened.

RedToothBrush · 30/10/2020 23:28

Polly, its not just about the headline death rates. Its the immenent melt down of the health service which is chronically under funded and has less beds than Europe which is always struggling.

Remember Johnson wanted to give money on buses to the nhs, he then wanted to build 40 new hospitals and then made a song and dance about clapping for the nhs.

His whole career and reputation is tied up with the NHS.

Johnson has no where else to go with the numbers as they are and lockdowns happening in Europe.

Not if he wants to save his political career every bit as much as saving lives....

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 30/10/2020 23:28

@NRJ688

Oh well probably lose my job, at least the virus will go away on December 1st though
HA. How can someone not see this is sarcastic? Don't forgot the virus goes to bed at 10pm as well!
Awalkintime · 30/10/2020 23:28

RedToothBrush
Yep it is always announced then or for schools its on a Sunday night to be implemented the next morning or the day they finish for the holidays.

'Lockdown in England....'

AlwaysLatte · 30/10/2020 23:29

*What?

Gosh there are some dumb people about. Flu + CV during cold wet weather where people will congregate indoors = overwhelmed NHS. It isn't rocket science, fgs.

Posteni1 · 30/10/2020 23:30

Just done with this now. If this is what life is going to be, what is the point? Economy destroyed, social interaction destroyed.. all that makes us what we are gone. What is the point. I’d rather die.

Pomegranatespompom · 30/10/2020 23:30

My DCs mental health was awful in lockdown, they are much happier in school. I’d bet the majority prefer being in school however, we obviously need further restrictions, I just hope it’s not months.

Peppafrig · 30/10/2020 23:30

Yeah the title should say England.

@Remmy123 the nightingales were empty because they had no one to staff them, not because they weren’t needed.

Many many hospitals were reporting critical situations and I’m hearing the same now. The NHD barely copes most winters, the staff are already exhausted.

I don’t want another lockdown. But what can be done to at least reduce virus spread?

MadameBlobby · 30/10/2020 23:31

@TheGinGenie

I don't give a fuck about Christmas but I can't bear the thought of another lockdown. I am so angry at this utterly incompetent government.

Just kicking the can down the road and solving nothing.
