The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

They cannot shut schools etc why are everyone on this site wanting this to happen

Of course they can. They just close them.

Not saying its right or wrong but its easily done.

Beebityboo · 30/10/2020 22:41

I don't want schools to close but as a disabled parent I think it's time fines etc were dropped. It's causing huge distress to many families and lots of deregistering which was preventable if flexibility had been offered in the first place Sad.

Remmy123 · 30/10/2020 22:41

@Mischance you feel sorry for the teachers? Why? What about the NHS staff / the people that will lose thier jobs and businesses/ the families of those who will commit suicide?

Because the NHS don't what to be overwhelmed?

A month will turn into two months.. it's a nightnare

StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2020 22:42

As a pp has said why is everything dripped into the media these days. Its like they test reactions without committing but it's sly

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 30/10/2020 22:42

I actually think it’s irresponsible of the newspapers to print this before it’s been announced officially.

islockdownoveryet · 30/10/2020 22:42

I agree it's not a lockdown unless we lockdown that includes schools.
Do it or not at all , businesses are struggling but one of the main causes of spread can still open .
Although I'm still on the fence that it's a good idea but I don't have the answer .

Remmy123 · 30/10/2020 22:43

@Dawnlassie and that's a good thing is it? Kids stuck at home again? Because of a virus that doesn't affect them? Shall we just feck our kids lives up even more shall we.

StealthPolarBear · 30/10/2020 22:44

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

I actually think it’s irresponsible of the newspapers to print this before it’s been announced officially.
I suspect the leak is for exactly this purpose.
the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 22:44

It's also headline news for the daily mail. Lots of ' sources' are saying it could be announced next week.
People are not happy at all.

snowballer · 30/10/2020 22:45

Or - more accurately - irresponsible of the government to leak it to the press before it's announced
MiaMarshmallows · 30/10/2020 22:45

If schools stay open, it's a waste of time and not a proper lockdown. I wonder if nurseries will close or stay open, I imagine they will come under the school category.
We really need a vaccine so we can quickly get back to normal.

dangerrabbit · 30/10/2020 22:46

I hate how the government "accidentally" leak things to the media to gauge public reaction.

alreadytaken · 30/10/2020 22:46

No-one should want the NHS overwhelmed, any one of us could need it tomorrow and a lot of people will. If you dont need it this week you'll need it in future - and the staff are need breaking point in a lot of places and ready to quit.

Sensible businesses know that they are not getting people through their doors in the same numbers because of the virus. They didnt shut down in America but people voted with their feet and stayed away.

Suicide rates dropped in the last lockdown - but there will be no help for the mentally ill if all staff are sick or redeployed.

No91 · 30/10/2020 22:47

It does effect some kids though -

In our classroom alone there is
4 kids who could suffer life changing consequences.
So I think yes keep schools open but drop the fines and offer a alternative for those who really are at risk of either being Vulnerable them self or live with someone who is.

Velvetpeel · 30/10/2020 22:47

@BestIsWest from what they are reporting it seems they’ve called for a joined up approach but who knows?!

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/10/2020 22:48

Zero point if the schools and uni stay open 🙄.

Velvetpeel · 30/10/2020 22:48

@dangerrabbit me too - it’s really not helpful to anyone and causes more stress

Dustballs · 30/10/2020 22:48

They are going to screw up our economy in order to keep schools open.

With schools still open the lockdown will have little to no - certainly a lesser effect.

That's obvious to everyone. They are (if this is true and it usually turns out to be) choosing to deepen the recession and lose more people jobs - just to keep schools open.

Why?

BestIsWest · 30/10/2020 22:48

We’re already in lockdown in Wales.

Dawnlassie · 30/10/2020 22:48

@Remmy123

Are you not capable of basic comprehension? I will repeat what I said. Try calming down and reading it.

Of course they can. They just close them.

Not saying its right or wrong but its easily done.

kittensarecute · 30/10/2020 22:48

No no no no please I can't cope with it again 😢

RedToothBrush · 30/10/2020 22:49

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

I actually think it’s irresponsible of the newspapers to print this before it’s been announced officially.
It will have been deliberately leaked by someone high ranking in government to psychologically prepare us for the announcement.

The Newspapers job is to report the news and im not sure what is more newsworthy than a reputable and well connected source leaking this. I don't get why reporting the news is 'irresponsible'.

This isnt speculative. This is more than that - responsible and professional journalists at the Times won't have put this on the front cover on a Saturday if its still just under consideration.

Pretty sure its more than a trial balloon tbh.

The data is THAT bad.

guitarstringseadgbe · 30/10/2020 22:51

What would this mean for the self employed builders again? Would they not be allowed to work??
