Will it be a circuit breaker announcement?

OP posts:
Lily193 · 20/10/2020 17:41

I bet Tory voters in GM are ruing the day they voted for Boris...

I bet they're not.

QueenPaws · 20/10/2020 17:41

Bars are getting around it too
I'm in tier 3 and loads are socialising in groups (not household groups), bars are serving free food to avoid having to close or teaming up with a restaurant or takeaway

Ginfordinner · 20/10/2020 17:44

@eddiemairswife

I find the PM to be a very poor speaker, constantly um-ing and er-ing as if he doesn't really know what he is going to say.
He is awful. I just cant bear to listen to him. His two sidekicks really show him up by being able to talk without the ums and ers.
CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 17:45

@Flaxmeadow

I bet Tory voters in GM are ruing the day they voted for Boris...

At least he was voted for. Hardly anyone in GM voted for Burnham or even wanted a metro mayor in the first place

You're verging on parody now.
RedToothBrush · 20/10/2020 17:46

Up to 30 people can meet over a meal and a drink as long as its work related.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2020 17:46

People will still vote for the conservatives. This is only one area in the UK. voters in other areas not so affected will happily vote for them again including many of my own family :(
Some people made money from the furlough or business grants ( not everyone but I've heard a few stories) they are happy enough. I've never voted for them but don't believe the hype that people will turn their backs on them. They will not. Even after all this.

Aragog · 20/10/2020 17:46

Yes I do redtoothbrush.

I was simply responding to a comment about breweries not getting anything. Some, especially the larger ones, continued to charge their linked pubs, so they did 'get something.'

Obviously small independent breweries will be in a different situation.

nosswith · 20/10/2020 17:46

Meals can be eaten during the day or early evening, and so should be shut earlier or completely closed.

Loopholes and exemptions have been a common failure of the whole approach. I had time in Munich last month and there are none when it comes to face coverings, for example.

nosswith · 20/10/2020 17:47

the80sweregreat you are correct in that some will always vote Tory. There have been Tory MPs in the north of England always.

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2020 17:49

I bet Tory voters in GM are ruing the day they voted for Boris...

No they won't, they will just blame Andy Burnham

FractionalGains · 20/10/2020 17:49

@Bewareoftheblob

This is just bullshit.

As long as schools and work places are over it is going to spread, and these jokers are pretending that drinking alcohol with a meal rather than without is the problem.

They know it's crap. What a ridiculous waste of livelihoods around the country and for nothing.

Couldn’t agree more
crystaltips98 · 20/10/2020 17:49

@eddiemairswife i agree. For someone who was an old boys debating society type he cant orate for toffee. Also JVT. So not prodfessional. Why not just Jonathan?

Chickenandrice · 20/10/2020 17:50

I agree with bewareoftheblob it’s a proper lockdown or nothing. It’s spreading in schools and workplaces. People livelihoods are being trashed for nothing

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 17:51

@the80sweregreat

Interestingly, four of the nine GM Tory MPs have absolute knife edge majorities, sub 500. Which likely goes some way towards explaining why they were willing to stick their necks out against the government: with so narrow a win, they won't get away with ignoring their constituents wishes on anything.

I would not have voted for any of the 9 Tory MPs in GM, but they can hold their heads up tonight. They did what they could for their constituents.

lyralalala · 20/10/2020 17:51

It works out at a 10% cut. Which is very doable considering the cost of other things such as commuting and socialising are going down...

80% of your wage is a 20% cut

Do you not realise that a lot of people spend much less than 20% of the income on commuting and socialising?

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2020 17:52

And no answer to what is happening with GM in terms of business support.

lyralalala · 20/10/2020 17:53

Using "JVT" is so unprofessional. You're the PM hosting a press conference in the middle of a pandemic ffs. Not giving a speech at the rugby club.

Juniperandrage · 20/10/2020 17:57

@DonLewis

Right? So incredibly rude

Juniperandrage · 20/10/2020 17:58

...thats was for

@lyralalala

DonLewis · 20/10/2020 18:10

@Juniperandrage, so I wasn't rude? Because I've just reread my posts and I really don't think I was rude!?

OP posts:
Juniperandrage · 20/10/2020 18:12

I tagged the wrong person

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2020 18:22

The whole 'JVT' thing was unnecessary and a bit dismissive I thought.
Likes everyone to think they are all ' mates' together.

Inkpaperstars · 20/10/2020 18:31

Using the initials JVT just for ease of typing (!) I do find him a very clear presenter of information and actually answers questions more than most.

*One more time - it isn't 20%

It works out at a 10% cut. Which is very doable considering the cost of other things such as commuting and socialising are going down..*

How is receiving 80% of your pay a 10% cut?
100-80 = 20
100-20 = 80

That's not rocket science.

If you manage to keep your job.*

@redtoothbrush that's referring to people affected by working for a small business which closes so they won't have a job.

MJMG2015 · 20/10/2020 19:07

@notangelinajolie

Andy Burnham does not speak for all of the people of Greater Manchester. It is making uncomfortable viewing listening to these men and woman who claim to speak on our behalf. It is time to stop protesting and accept these measures gracefully like the rest of the country. I am a Mancunian and Manchester is special but not special enough to be so arrogant to think that we should be give special treatment. I don't know anyone round here that is unhappy about further lockdown measures. Given a choice of job or granny's life I would pick granny every single time. We need this lock down - and it should have happened last week - all this delay is going to result in lives being lost. This is not a time for party politcs.
Exactly.

AB seems to think Manchester deserves more than everywhere else.

The Givt simply cannot be 'negotiating' with every area that need to go into T3. It has to be 'fair & equal' not who negotiated better.

AB & his stropping will cost lives with all the delays.
