Will it be a circuit breaker announcement?

OP posts:

With Universal Credit they will receive 80% of their full income, he says.

Of course 20% income decrease is something that we can all afford without it causing any hardship whatsover. Maybe all the politicians should take a 20% decrease to show willing.

@grenouilleescargot

He says this mean pubs and bars will close unless they are serving substantial meals.

So does eating a 'substantial' meal mean you are temporarily immune to covid then? Twat.

No it's because eating out with a glass of wine is not the same as spending an evening drinking. Drunk people don't tend to observe social distance as well as sober people do.
Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2020 17:26

I bet Tory voters in GM are ruing the day they voted for Boris...

At least he was voted for. Hardly anyone in GM voted for Burnham or even wanted a metro mayor in the first place

Omg! It is not 20%!

If one person loses 10% and another loses 10%, then together, they have lost 10%....

And they have no commuting costs, reduced dining/eating out, etc etc...

tootyfruitypickle · 20/10/2020 17:26

What's this country come to when food banks are basically the fall back now - they have been for years but now, they're actually forming part of the basic support package.

tootyfruitypickle · 20/10/2020 17:28

There's a 6 week wait for UC btw.

Ecosse · 20/10/2020 17:28

I’d like to see you with 2 DC trying to manage on 80% of minimum wage @hawaypet.

The idea that people wouldn’t be struggling I’d only it weren’t for eating out is laughable.

eddiemairswife · 20/10/2020 17:28

I find the PM to be a very poor speaker, constantly um-ing and er-ing as if he doesn't really know what he is going to say.

AnEleanor · 20/10/2020 17:29

@Flaxmeadow you seem very invested in smearing Andy Burnham today. He’s very popular atm amongst my colleagues - cross section of people from Salford, Manchester, Stockport, Tameside AND Trafford 🤷🏻‍♀️I think he has a lot of local support.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 20/10/2020 17:30

And many people won't qualify for it.

One more time - it isn't 20%

It works out at a 10% cut. Which is very doable considering the cost of other things such as commuting and socialising are going down...

What about those laid off?

Breweries get nothing. Bars do.

So what do breweries do?

Yes thats extremely bloody helpful if you are not formally closed down by government but your business is effectively all gone.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2020 17:31

The trouble is whatever was lost financially will hit people hard. And they can’t pay with warm feelings for Burnham.

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/10/2020 17:31

If they are so concerned about the over 60s maybe they should support them to shield then and let the rest of us get on with it...

VinylDetective · 20/10/2020 17:31

Hardly anyone in GM voted for Burnham or even wanted a metro mayor in the first place

If that was true before I’d bet my house it won’t be next time.

grenouilleescargot · 20/10/2020 17:33

Omg! It is not 20%! If one person loses 10% and another loses 10%, then together, they have lost 10%....

If a person receives 80% of their pay then they have lost 20% of their income. If a person works for a business which closes they will get 80% of their income due to universal credit. Nowhere does it say it's a couple who are losing 20%, it's one person.

If a couple are both working for a business which closes then 20% + 20% equal 40%. Did you pass any maths exams at all?

Ecosse · 20/10/2020 17:33

Boris Johnson has just admitted that it will be a maximum of 80% of wages including universal credit @hawaypet.

Clearly living on 80% of minimum wage is ‘very doable’ though. I’m not sure why we have any poverty at all in this country.

grenouilleescargot · 20/10/2020 17:35

*One more time - it isn't 20%

How is receiving 80% of your pay a 10% cut?
100-80 = 20
100-20 = 80

That's not rocket science.

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2020 17:35

Its funny. When Johnson launched his manifesto for the north he did so in Manchester (i remember that day very well cos we saw his motorcade going through Trafford).

And his policies were a carbon copy of Burnham's strategy for the city.

Like it had been stolen directly and passed off as Johnson's original work.

And it was popular.

So seeing Johnson go for Burnham in this way makes me rather wary.

Aragog · 20/10/2020 17:35

*Breweries get nothing. Bars do.

So what do breweries do?*

The brewery linked to our local pub continued to charge our local, the full amount throughout the last lockdown. None of their fees were reduced. Then onesies received by the pub from the government were pretty much wiped out by them paying the brewery back.

You do realise theres lots of small breweries in Manchester thst dont own bars dont you?
Bewareoftheblob · 20/10/2020 17:40

This is just bullshit.

As long as schools and work places are over it is going to spread, and these jokers are pretending that drinking alcohol with a meal rather than without is the problem.

They know it's crap. What a ridiculous waste of livelihoods around the country and for nothing.
