Will it be a circuit breaker announcement?

OP posts:
GabsAlot · 20/10/2020 13:59

or tickled even

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 20/10/2020 14:00

@ChaChaCha2012

Maybe imposing penalties for people breaking the rules but I would be surprised.

Giving Serco another few billion to recruit Covid Enforcers.

I'd laugh, but given how much money they've given to incompetent contractors, it's a distinct possibility.

Yup. If they ploughed that money into supporting struggling businesses & the newly (and longterm) unemployed & underemployed, people wouldn't feel half so desperate. And many would be less inclined / find it less necessary to break the rules. It seems to be one rule for those at the top, another for everyone else.
Aragog · 20/10/2020 14:03

It will be Manchester and possibly other areas.

We are in Sheffield and I know there's been talks. It's frustrating if we get moved to tier 3 as our numbers dropped by almost 100 per 100,000 over the last week. Chances are the student migration effect has peaked so numbers reduced.

I was in hospital with Covid last week and the medics were saying that all seemed okay in terms of capacity and they were managing. They said many people they're seeing aren't as ill as in March and the really poorly people are still in the much older category. Obviously that's not fact though, it's just the opinions of staff there, so could be a different picture if you spoke to a different set of medics.

No, it'll be to bad mouth Andy Burnham and to demand Greater Manchester fall on its sword and comply with restrictions that will put them at great hardship to protect all the I'm-alright-Jackers. So, that'll go well.

They have already capitulated

Yay, more people into poverty. Go the Tories... Angry

Well it's not just the Tories, Labour have sent an already poor nation with the worst educational achievement in the UK into lockdown as of Friday.
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/10/2020 14:05

@PetitFours

I think they're postponing Christmas until April, and combining it with Easter to create Chreaster. Or Eastmas.
Eastmas reads better. I’ll prepare myself to stuff a roast turkey in to a chocolate egg for the feast!
RiojaWeatherIsHere · 20/10/2020 14:05

Hancock statement at 7pm

Tfoot75 · 20/10/2020 14:06

Lol, they said there wouldn't be a circuit break on Sunday, do people seriously think they'd announce on on Tuesday? I know theyre famous for u turns but not of that magnitude! Surprise no one has said total lockdown/school closures HmmConfusedHmm

Its obviously about GM, you could just read the news!

Hopeisathingwithfeathers · 20/10/2020 14:12

Why announce about Manchester to the whole country?

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 14:16

@Hopeisathingwithfeathers

Why announce about Manchester to the whole country?
To discourage any of the other natives from getting restless.
DeciduousPerennial · 20/10/2020 14:20

No. It’ll be Bodger bollocking Andy Burnham and announcing forced tier 3 for Manchester.

StealthPolarBear · 20/10/2020 14:24

Any ideas as t o which other areas

IMNOTSHOUTING · 20/10/2020 14:26

If there is a circuit breaker he'll have rebranded it so it doesn't look like they're following labour's advice.

IntermittentParps · 20/10/2020 14:28

I think and hope it's Manchester.

Much as I want a circuit-breaker in some ways, not right now; I'm all booked and organised to go and visit family this weekend (safely, staying in separate places, before anyone says anything!) I know that's selfish but this is people I haven't seen for the best part of a year.

Madcats · 20/10/2020 14:29

If they take questions from the journalists I hope somebody asks them to clarify why it is okay for there to be business lunches for up to 30 people, but weddings can only have 15 people (or whatever it is). Grin

I imagine that Boris and Matt are going to urge us all to avoid non-essential travel at half term (though that is a bit late as there already seem to be plenty of kids on holiday round here in Somerset).

We've already managed to demolish a 2 boxes of "strange flavour, so they don't count" mince pies and some mini-stollen. I am usually ranting if they are in the shops before Halloween!

Trend disrupter. Sorted.
hawaypet · 20/10/2020 14:33

@ssd

Probably to waffle he's glad Andy Burnham is putting party politics aside and welcoming the fact Manchester is going into teir 3 and people on minimum wage will now be living on £6.50 an hour instead. And he will make it sound like he understands how hard it is.

Maybe he'll throw in a bit of brexit and sovereignty too, just to really rub it in?!?

Why are people perpetuating these figures?

Rishi has already said that the decrease in income will mean the employee can claim more benefits. Ultimately they will get the equivalent of 90% of their pay. Is that really so bad?

Requinblanc · 20/10/2020 14:33

I wished people stopped using nonsense like 'circuit breaker'.

A lockdown is a lockdown...no need to parrot the government spin to try to make them more palatable by giving them another name.

And no Johnson will be talking about the Manchester lockdown.

A national lockdown would not be followed. It would kill what is left of the economy.

And no there is no vaccine ready yet.

Seriously time to wise up and stop the fairy tales...Most people no longer listen to a word the clown government has to say at this stage.

Exactly, the hyperventilating is ridiculous.
FourTeaFallOut · 20/10/2020 14:34

Who is hyperventilating?

AgnesNaismith · 20/10/2020 14:35

I heard a new phrase being bandied around earlier - something like ‘firebreak’

KetoPenguin · 20/10/2020 14:36

😂😂😂 great idea and Father Eastmas is probably leaving Andy Burnham a lump of coal unless he stfu

NCforsafety · 20/10/2020 14:37

Manchester is my vote

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2020 14:37

Its Johnson announcing he's No Dealing with Manchester. Then badmouthing Burnham, whilst simulataineously telling Mancunians they are worth less each than Scousers and they should suck this up.

Hold on tight.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 20/10/2020 14:39

I think that is what Mark Drakeford referred to the upcoming restrictions in Wales as.

FourTeaFallOut · 20/10/2020 14:42

Maybe they will explain how they created the role of a metro mayor to head off the momentum for devolution and then treated them with utter contempt when they actually did their job and defended the well being of the population they are charged to represent? Or will he just remind Manchester to sing happy birthday when they wash their hands?
