Will it be a circuit breaker announcement?

OP posts:

Ultimately they will get the equivalent of 90% of their pay. Is that really so bad?

So if your a couple that's a 20% hit to your monthly income which, when your already on a low income/minimum wage is a huge hit to take, especially when all your other outgoings will remain the same.....and in the run up to Christmas when you are already fretting about the additional expense. Meanwhile, everyone else gets to earn and spend as normal (or for as long as they stay out of tier 3 that is).

it is creating huge inequality between counties. Many of those business that will be forced to shut (having already spent their emergency keep afloat funds on installing screens etc to make them 'covid secure') wont re-open come Christmas.

So to answer your question, yes, it really is that bad.

@RedToothBrush

I will put money on the government trying to give Trafford and bolton and stockport money.

I’m not sure about Bolton but do you mean because Trafford and Stockport are Tory?

augustusglupe · 20/10/2020 17:11

CrappleUmble Of course, I'm a woman, I never forget!! Wink

Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2020 17:11

What about the deaths and health effects that will be caused by lockdown?

Do they not matter because they’re not caused by COVID?

Of course they matter and that's exactly why we should be in tier 3 right NOW, to stop services being overwhelmed. If Burnhma disagrees with that, then why not allow tier 3 and THEN argue

How come the mayor of Liverpool could agree to tier 3, inspite of political differences with the Gov't

Burnham is making this all about him and his "king of the north" bollocks

Boris trying to make this all about Burnham despite the fact there's an entire coalition there!

GrossedOutted · 20/10/2020 17:16

So Manchester wanted 65 million and BJ has given them 22 yet offered 60 million earlier today???

nosswith · 20/10/2020 17:17

Mr Johnson should be sacked, face criminal charges and be replaced by someone competent.

I feel sorry for the medical advisors who have been ignored too often.

PostItJoyWeek · 20/10/2020 17:17

Given a choice of job or granny's life I would pick granny every single time.

If you give my elderly dad the choice of his life or his grandchildren's future, he will choose the grandchildren every time. He is very very pissed off that he and his friends are not being permitted to make the choice. He is livid at the damage being done to people's lives in his name.

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 17:18

@notangelinajolie

The Tory MPs of Greater Manchester were also in agreement

Oh well that makes it ok then Hmm

And thank you for poster who reminded me that Graham Brady is a Tory. I do know that, I voted for him. I do have a mind of my own and I don't happen to agree with him.

I applaud Burnham for saying he will not give up the fight - but that fight needs to be done during and after lock down not before.

Covid is not going to wait until Burnham is happy with his deal. We are in the middle of a Pandemic or has anyone forgotten that.

In which case, the playing party politics take was extremely unintelligent of you. Again, how is it playing party politics when he was part of a bipartisan consensus of elected local representatives?
PostItJoyWeek · 20/10/2020 17:18

Can we have a referendum of only over 60s to decide whether they want lockdowns to continue or not?

grenouilleescargot · 20/10/2020 17:19

He says this mean pubs and bars will close unless they are serving substantial meals.

So does eating a 'substantial' meal mean you are temporarily immune to covid then? Twat.

Jaxhog · 20/10/2020 17:19

Like who?

No... if you're a couple, it's a 10% hit to your pay...

And a number of people on this thread are dense enough to swallow it.
notangelinajolie · 20/10/2020 17:20

I seriously worry about some people on here.

tootyfruitypickle · 20/10/2020 17:20

Vicky Young is so much better than Laura K. Good question.

KittCat · 20/10/2020 17:21

I bet Tory voters in GM are ruing the day they voted for Boris...

I'm pretty livid at the idea that I'm expendable because I'm over 60!

tootyfruitypickle · 20/10/2020 17:22

It's irritating when he calls Jonathan Van Tam JVT like they're mates.... I would absolutely love to read some of the scientists memoirs after this.

Well you're evidently not worrying much about people who would struggle feeding their kids if they did prioritise grandma, so I suppose the emotions have to go somewhere.

Seriously poor maths there, it's 10% and many people's outcomes will be reduced with no travel, tax back claim for working from home, no social things with pubs shut.

nosswith · 20/10/2020 17:24

Jaxhog assuming it is a Tory, several MPs were in the forces and can organise, there are some who were doctors, and indeed Jeremy Hunt has much more knowledge than Boris Johnson.
