Would anyone support another national lockdown?

Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

I would nt mind, but I work from home, my income won’t be affected, our main activity that we really missed last time is theme parks every weekend but there’s only a couple of weeks of the season left, my DC are 11 and 13, DD had live lessons right through the last lockdown through google classrooms right from day 1 and I have the time, skills and equipment to homeschool DS whose school were also pretty good last time.
We don’t socialise other than as a family and can take or leave pubs etc and I don’t go to hairdressers, salons, clothes shops or the gym. My only issue would be the kids as they struggled not seeing their friends last time and not seeing my mum who is 150 miles away.
I do think the majority who support it are probably similar to me where it doesn’t have a huge negative impact. For the greater good I don’t think I do support it though as we would be ok but so many people rely on socialising and support for their mental health and would see their incomes and livelihood decimated and there are probably more people negatively impacted than would be ok with it.

FippertyGibbett · 13/10/2020 20:12

No.
I can’t work if we get shut down, and I want my DS to stay in school.

OpheliasCrayon · 13/10/2020 20:14

Not a chance. I want my kids (and all kids ) in school. I'm a (vulnerable but chosen not to shield) teacher and I wish to carry on working , in person.

Suzi888 · 13/10/2020 20:20

Yes, if that meant we could get back to normal afterwards GUARANTEED!!!!!
One four year old, me and DH can work form
home income not affected.

WinifredSanderson · 13/10/2020 20:21

No absolutely not.

Planty13 · 13/10/2020 20:22

No. I’m mostly concerned about my child’s education but the job losses and businesses surviving are a huge concern too

LittleDoritt · 13/10/2020 20:22

Yes. It feels scary out there. Lockdown would suit us fine, and my children loved homeschooling.

kittensarecute · 13/10/2020 20:22

No. Not for months again. The last one came close to breaking me.

Maryann1975 · 13/10/2020 20:23

I don’t think I would, no. Last time was only Made bearable because Dh and I were both furloughed/claimed self employed grant and I really don’t think the government would pay out like that again.

The dc need to go to school. One of my dc was classed as vulnerable and school were shockingly shit. Very little contact and we really struggled with her, meaning that our whole household was struggling with mental health. For us to be put back in that situation again would be horrendous. We could deal easily with a couple of weeks of circuit breaking, but another 6 months off, no thank you.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/10/2020 20:25

No. I cannot work from home and I'm a single parent so we rely on my income. If school and childcare settings are closed, I cannot work. DS suffered being an only child. The business I work for would not survive another lockdown, I spent 4 months on furlough.

clopper · 13/10/2020 20:26

littledorrit It feels scary out there. Lockdown would suit us fine, and my children loved homeschooling.

Why don’t you lockdown your family then? My family didn’t enjoy it and do not want this.

farfallarocks · 13/10/2020 20:27

No! I think I would have a breakdown frankly if I had to try and work and home school. Couldn’t care less about the social stuff. Poor kids I think they have sacrificed enough

Autumngoldleaf · 13/10/2020 20:28

Yes.
I think 2 or 3 weeks over October half term.
Probably 3 weeks, then the tier system.

And again at Christmas, 4 weeks.

Personally I think smaller shops and businesses could stay open. Eg hairdressers.. With sd in place visors and masks.

But larger mixing places like schools, no.

I don't think long term lock down is helpful at all. But two short lock downs may help and ease the pressure through winter. Re assess again in January.

MrsBeltane · 13/10/2020 20:29

If it's what is needed. Anything to reduce the number of deaths.

DH works from home. I'm a school based NHS employee. DS left school this year and is about to go overseas for a gap year job.

ForeverBubblegum · 13/10/2020 20:29

I would if it was part of a plan, so lockdown between xxx dates, followed by yyy restrictions. So a more fleshed out circuit breaker basically.

If it was like last times stay at home with immediate effect, for an unknown length of time, then easing different things at random with little notice. I wouldn't be impressed. I'd probably still go along with it because I'm a stickler for rules, but I wouldn't be enthusiastically supporting it.

Shamrocksunshine · 13/10/2020 20:30

God no.

Notselfish · 13/10/2020 20:33

No way.

I think the one boy people who do are those who it suited last time.

fewming · 13/10/2020 20:42

God, no. It absolutely must not happen.

mumoftinyterrors · 13/10/2020 20:42

Absolutely not. Never again. They'll have to drag me to prison for breaking lockdown rules, because I am NOT following them again.

PaperScissorsRock · 13/10/2020 20:44

No. I mean, it might yet come to it, but let’s hope the government sort out track and trace this time instead of encouraging everyone to go back to normal.

starrynight19 · 13/10/2020 20:45

Short ‘circuit breaker’ type lockdown yes.
Months on end like before no.

TheGinGenie · 13/10/2020 20:46

No I couldn't bear it

Kljnmw3459 · 13/10/2020 20:47

No, unless people's housing and incomes are protected.

RigaBalsam · 13/10/2020 20:49

Yea but they need to sort out the track and trace this time.

loulouljh · 13/10/2020 20:49

NO
