Would anyone support another national lockdown?

Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

I am really torn. DH went out to work throughout, we didn't suffer financially (we are not well off by any means- dh minimum wage supermarket and.me fulltime carer to eldest child who is disabled, so carers allowance) but we suffered emotionally (rather my two autistic kids did, loss of support networks/groups, no school for youngest who couldn't engage at all), but I am also clinically vulnerable and I think they need to do what they can to slow the spread of the virus (test results in a timely manner would be helpful - 5 days we waited this week for results to arrive back!) It is spiralling out of control and it needs reigning back in.

@AlwaysLatte

I'm getting angrier and angrier at the restrictions now. I'm getting angrier and angrier that there aren't enough restrictions. Hundreds of people are dying every day again and that will turn into thousands once more if we don't do something to stop it. It's shocking how many people don't care about that.
What shocks me is that the only deaths that "matter" are Covid-related.

It's shocking, how many people don't care about the 1,500 people who die every day in the UK.

Or do these people only matter if they are either in your own family or Covid-related?

RonaLisa · 13/10/2020 21:47

@DominaShantotto

No.

Won’t comply either.

Actually, this is the most sensible answer (after all my waffle).
amusedtodeath1 · 13/10/2020 21:48

Personally I'd be happy to do it again, but the rest of my family would hate it. On a society level not unless their really was no other option. Economically it would be disastrous.

WinifredSanderson · 13/10/2020 21:49

@DominaShantotto

No.

Won’t comply either.

Same
EasterIssland · 13/10/2020 21:52

Yes. Only if they’ve invested first in the nhs and in track and trace. And a proper system for tracking not an excel.
Unless they invest then no. It’d kill the economy and this would kill more lives than Corona

IndecentFeminist · 13/10/2020 21:56

It wouldn't overly bother me personally...we are well set up and can manage job wise.

However where we are it would be total overkill.

PenelopePilchard · 13/10/2020 21:56

More people are dying from lack of healthcare than of fucking Covid. The official figures state that 57,000 have died within 28 days of a positive test. And of those, hundreds are genuinely only down to Covid itself. Out of a population of over 65 million.

This awful health hysteria is really grinding me down Sad.

Figmentofmyimagination · 13/10/2020 21:58

No no no.

jessstan1 · 13/10/2020 21:58

Yes I would but it wouldn't have much impact on my life as I am retired and living alone. It's much harder for others.

Figmentofmyimagination · 13/10/2020 22:00

We can’t keep doing this, with no exit plan.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 13/10/2020 22:01

No but I'd accept a 2-3 week circuit breaker like SAGE suggested over half term to keep school open properly for another half term

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 13/10/2020 22:03

Yep absolutely. Places like Manchester have been stuck in twilight lockdown for ages. They can’t get out of it. Short sharp break. Why should the north carry the burden of the the shit Tory policies, where Boris decided who goes where?

Sm192 · 13/10/2020 22:05

No absolutely not, I am a nurse so I would still be going to work exactly the same If we locked down or not. However if we locked down my son would miss out on education and I wouldn't be able to go to the gym, out to eat or to socialise all of which I need to do to be able to continue working. People need to learn to live their lives and stop living in fear. It would also devastate the economy, children's education and people's mental health all of which are far more important that lockdown.

SciFiScream · 13/10/2020 22:09

I can't see how the economy would manage another lockdown. It's fragile enough as it is. I don't put the economy above health but they are of equal importance.

I'm in an extremely fortunate position. I already work from home (have done since July 2019) and it is just possible for my DH to work from home.

Learning at home was not good for us - though a second time around might be better.

I'll do what I can to help the overall picture. Follow guidelines and keep spending as we are able to do so.

I don't envy anyone who has to make these decisions.

Pootle40 · 13/10/2020 22:11

No. It's a vicious never ending cycle.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 13/10/2020 22:13

We must do what needs to be done. I have children but don’t believe their right to an education is worth more than others lives.
If hospitals are overwhelmed there will be no cancer care or beds for people who have heart attacks etc.
I understand it’s had an impact on mental health but generations before us had to endure worse.
I do agree people need financial support.

That's happening already though. I won't be complying again. I'm already ignoring the ban on meetings indoors and seeing my family and my therapist.

year5teacher · 13/10/2020 22:14

Fuck, and I cannot stress this enough, no.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 13/10/2020 22:19

If hospitalisations and death rates keep ramping up on the same trajectory I think we will approach the point where we will have to....it may take hospitals & other services starting to buckle before the majority accept that need however....at which point it’ll be too late for many but what can you do?....Lockdown would be ok for us if we had to do again but I completely appreciate that many, many do not feel the same.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 13/10/2020 22:20

No, although I think the current measures don't go far enough. I think there should be more mask wearing in the workplace and in educational establishments. Police enforcing rules/laws. No way can we return to the situation we had in March.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 13/10/2020 22:21

@EasterIssland

Yes. Only if they’ve invested first in the nhs and in track and trace. And a proper system for tracking not an excel. Unless they invest then no. It’d kill the economy and this would kill more lives than Corona
Well they've wastedinvested 10billion on a system that doesn't work

www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m2805#:~:text=The%20UK%20government%20has%20spent,the%20Treasury%20disclosed%20this%20week.

The failure of the Government to get an effective test and trace system in place for Autumn is a derelection of duty.

Popcornriver · 13/10/2020 22:23

I don't think areas with very low rates should be forced into a full lockdown but I'd support strict lockdowns in the areas where the infection is high.

480Widdio · 13/10/2020 22:26

No and I won’t comply either.

PinkFondantFancy · 13/10/2020 22:28

Absolutely not. Anyone saying "I'm not affected, I can work from home" needs to give their head a wobble. "Not affected, yet" would be the more realistic answer. They just won't be the first to feel the pain of the crippled economy but noone will escape unscathed. Our grandchildren will still be paying the cost of the first one, let alone any repeated ones.

sausagepastapot · 13/10/2020 22:28

Absolutely fuck no.
