Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

If they close schools they'd better reintroduce furlough.

Some people on MN seem to think the country is divided into key workers and everyone else can work from home. I'm not a key worker but I cannot work from home. If school closes this leaves me unable to work as DS is 7 and can't be left alone. What are we supposed to live on?

@Badbanana

My minimum expectations for standard of living and quality of life for my children and I are damn well higher than this!

Yes, all those parents from war torn countries just have lower standards than you.

Why, if they gave a crap, they’d have stamped their feet and screamed at the bombs that they just wouldn’t be bloody putting up with it!

Learn some resilience (and teach some to your children) and stop pretending that the soft lockdown we had in this country is even akin to ‘catastrophic’.

Honestly, I have ignored this 'learn some resilience' line on MN for so long but I can't let it go again.

Has it ever occurred to you that there may be only so much resilience that people have? You have no idea what people have gone through in recent times or what lockdown has put them through.

I am normally the resilient one. The one who copes with shit because she has to. In recent years I've had a long list of things to come through and (I think) managed pretty well with a smile on my face. However, a pandemic and lockdown just as I was due my second child, giving birth one week into it and then lockdown with a very anxious DH, 3 year old DS and a new baby in a small 2 bed flat with no outside space very nearly broke me. The idea of doing it again is terrifying and I will not be complying with certain parts of it. I wear a mask, I don't visit family or friends (apart from my mum who is in our bubble) but I will take my kids out for trips to the park and let them play, picnic outside (in Scotland and this was banned for soooo long) etc. If this is selfish then I'm happy to be considered so but the welfare of my family is higher in my priority than that of strangers I'm afraid. I will also fight to keeps schools open. My nearly 4 Yr old needs his time in nursery. He had just started in late January and then had it taken away. He is JUST getting used to it again and he needs this consistency to get properly socialised before starting school next year.

Hyperfish101 · 15/10/2020 07:56

It is probably going to have to be for 2-3 weeks or else people won’t bother complying. I didn’t realise you couldn’t take kids to the park during first lockdown though?

Clearasmuddypuddles · 15/10/2020 08:24

@Hyperfish101 the parks here were all closed and taped off.

Liverpool is considering closing schools.

Schools closed in Europe due to staff infection rates. How would the backlash to dead staff be dealt with? Would Boris be held responsible?

Would anyone support another national lockdown?

And no toilets were open. Anywhere

Some Universities may go under if they refund all accommodation costs and there is no money to spend on campus. A small amount of UK Universities have been in dire straits for a while. People still assume University has something to do with education, that’s truthful sarcasm due working in it for 25 years.

The virus isn’t going anywhere but circuit breaking slows it down. It’s miserable and never has a time when our own personal circumstances really show the haves and have nots. Whatever happens we complied 100% and will do so again regardless of personal feeling.

Dollywilde · 15/10/2020 10:05

In London with a DH working out of the home 60 hours a week. 60 hours I’m alone in a small flat with a baby. She’s 8 weeks old. My HV thinks I have PND. And now I can’t see a soul during those hours unless I take her out in the cold.

I’m crying right now, and I don’t care what that says about my resilience at all.

“**Absolutely no way. Not doing it again. What about mental health, children in vulnerable families, domestic violence, I could go on.
The media have whipped everyone up into a complete frenzy. Just let's get on with life, be sensible but carry on as best we can.”

hear hear totally agree

No chance, I am really hoping that the schools stay open as relatively normal, we cannot go back to how it was in March, schools closed for months on end, children missing out on education etc.

wizzbangfizz · 15/10/2020 11:15

@Waxonwaxoff0 really feel for people in your situation it is really hard and worrying!

Summerhope1 · 15/10/2020 11:47

2 weeks lockdown combined with the school half term should be enough to slow down the virus spreading, then maybe another 2 weeks during Christmas holiday.

Also, there should be some adjustment, like people can meet outside in the park, as the risk is very low in the open air.

What science/evidence is that based on? It took 3 MONTHS from March to June before the numbers fell to relatively low levels. The first 2/3 weeks were pretty locked down with most shops (except food) closed, factories/building sites closed, schools closed, etc etc.

Unless they intend to close ALL shops (inc essentials) and make staff stay on site in care homes, hospitals, etc., then 2/3 week lockdown won't achieve much at all.

Absolutely no to lockdowns every time it is school holidays. Some of us would actually like to go on holiday as well as see relatives who don't live close etc. Why should only people who don't have school age kids be the only ones allowed to go anywhere?
