Would anyone support another national lockdown?

Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

I don’t think it makes sense. Local lockdowns in high transmission areas, yes.

I'd rather have a functional test and trace system so we don't have to have lockdowns at all.
Elsa8 · 13/10/2020 21:20

Yes, because I think it’s all spiraling out of control right now.

ConiferGate · 13/10/2020 21:21

@Hellohey sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough time. Genuine question, do you not think that mental health and businesses will be equally screwed without a lockdown, when things get even more out of control, people stop going out yet there’s no support (because we aren’t in lockdown), and they start seeing more friends and family dying... both of Covid and non-Covid because Covid is taking up all the beds?

Emma10702 · 13/10/2020 21:21

Only if our school has proper online learning set up which I believe they have in place now incase of isolation. The set up was pretty poor last time & it was a battle to get my children to engage with the learning available.

Dancingalong · 13/10/2020 21:21

No I wouldn’t.

earthycarrots · 13/10/2020 21:23

Yes if it was with proper provision for school exam years.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 13/10/2020 21:23

No, we are both self employed and I'm pregnant so all our savings are for when I'm off on maternity leave. If dp can't work and I can't work the last 2 months and earn we are fucked.

Pinkmagic1 · 13/10/2020 21:26

Only if we could 110 percent guarantee things could return to normal afterwards with no more lock downs or restrictions. I mean the old normal, not the new normal!

RunningNinja79 · 13/10/2020 21:26

No.

I WFH and last time I managed to save quite a bit of money through not having to have as much to pay out (fuel in the car mainly). However, there is more to life than Covid and we need to be mindful of that.

Nobody is listening to people in your situation. Flowers

No way!

@AHippoNamedBooBooButt

No. It's too late now, like shutting the door after the horse has bolted. Plus a second lockdown would not included shutting schools or workplaces which therefore isn't a lockdown? Just a ban on social gatherings which is pointless really. We did lockdown, had the chance to rid this country of the virus and our gov screwed up and prioritised a summer holiday above our health. It was possible to rid us of it, or at least bring it down to a manageable level - china have. They screwed up. I'm not having another half hearted lockdown, then another then another.... where does it end? I think we are now at the point of just having to ride this out.
This!!!!
Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 13/10/2020 21:34

Yes because one DC is vulnerable. Also we are very fortunate that we have secure jobs.

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 13/10/2020 21:34

No not at all and I think all the people who say they want another lockdown to reduce deaths wouldnt think the same if it meant they couldn’t work and couldn’t pay their bills. For most people the virus is that mild they have no symptoms at all yet having no work no money to feed your children risk losing your home is a very real threat to many. Me and my husband both couldn’t work last time but was one of the ones who wasn’t entitled to any help I cannot go through this again!! Also my daughters mental health couldn’t cope!! This lockdown will cause far more death long term but nobody seems to care as long as people don’t catch this virus!! Madness!!

hamstersarse · 13/10/2020 21:34

No

There’s literally nothing to gain

AlwaysLatte · 13/10/2020 21:36

I'd rather choose a planned, preventative and shorter lockdown rather than the typical knee jerk reaction of this government which will see us having a rushed, prolonged one after unnecessary deaths.

StealthPolarBear · 13/10/2020 21:37

"You do know, don't you, that there is no hospital treatment for anyone who hasn't got Covid? That people are (literally) on their knees in pain, because they can't see anyone?"
Right now that simply isn true

HappilyHoppily · 13/10/2020 21:39

No. We would be fine, wouldn’t lose out financially, have a nice house and garden, OH is a key worker and would be out of the house anyway. I’d go a bit mad entertaining toddlers but can cope with it. But it is NOT the right thing for the country, by any measure. If there was a short circuit breaker, accompanied by a genuine investment in to making test and trace actually work, I would grudgingly support this. Exactly as the WHO have just said, lockdown affects the poorest the most and is ineffective when used as the primary control measure.

DappledOliveGroves · 13/10/2020 21:39

Absolutely no way. Not a fucking chance. Anyone who is terrified of the virus can lock themselves up if they want to or accept that life has inherent risks and no one is immune from death.

AlwaysLatte · 13/10/2020 21:40

I'm getting angrier and angrier at the restrictions now.
I'm getting angrier and angrier that there aren't enough restrictions. Hundreds of people are dying every day again and that will turn into thousands once more if we don't do something to stop it.
It's shocking how many people don't care about that.

WanderingMilly · 13/10/2020 21:42

No. Last one was a waste of time since we are now back to where we were (relatively speaking) when the last lockdown began. Except that now we've ruined the economy, spoiled a load of education, played havoc with people's mental health and destroyed some families who haven't visited vulnerable loved ones for months.

AhGoGo · 13/10/2020 21:42

No.

I work in hospitality and there's going to be nothing left. Some of my colleagues are having to take a second mortgage break (Scotland, central belt restrictions so my entire work has been put back on furlough). People are going to start losing their homes. Business are closing down at an increasingly rapid pace and there are no jobs to replace the ones being lost.

No.

Won’t comply either.
