Would anyone support another national lockdown?

Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

OP posts:
Cocothefirst · 13/10/2020 22:29

No.

I live on my own and my mental health has tanked during lockdown. I've dodged one round of redundancies but I'll go in the next one.

notangelinajolie · 13/10/2020 22:31

I wouldn't mind - I quite liked the piece and quiet and I'm a miserable bugger who likes being on my own.

PinkPiranha11 · 13/10/2020 22:33

Not a chance. It’s a total overreaction.

Splodgetastic · 13/10/2020 22:36

Are you Boris, OP? Someone just told me Boris now wants a full-on lockdown, but I don’t know what the source is! I did wonder whether they had got Sir Keir and Boris mixed up.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/10/2020 22:36

My life hasn't really changed much since March apart from DS being back at school but him being in school is very stressful for him and so also for me. So overall on a personal basis I'd be happy with another lockdown and would have absolutely no trouble sticking to it but I don't advocate for it because I know it will inegatively mpact many many people

Ankylosaur · 13/10/2020 22:39

Christ no.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 13/10/2020 22:39

Is this it now, for evermore? Lockdown after lockdown. COVID isn't going anywhere. We need a strategy to live with it because otherwise we're fucked.

And please don't mention how China have got it under control. That's just the biggest insult going.

caringcarer · 13/10/2020 22:41

Not at the moment. I'm a sahm and DH working from home and vulnerable as asthmatic and obese with autoimmune deficit, but kids need to be in school. Last time D's got no Teams lessons just a few worksheets that never even got marked. I don't want that again.

If it gets much worse we might have to have one but I really hope not.

WhoLettheCatOut · 13/10/2020 22:45

Nope. I can't cope with home schooling again and my kids haven't mentally recovered from the last one. They would be devastated and I suspect we are at the point where they would be so far being they can't catch up. I am not sure what it would achieve other than delaying the next wave to be honest. The point of lockdown is to squash the peak, if it had been lifted sooner last time the next wave would not have been pushed back into flu season. I am working from home, minimal going out of the house and I've visited my grandma twice since March, I can cope with limited restrictions to reduce the spread but not another full lockdown.

Yes 100%. In fact I think unless everywhere including schools shut it won't work-we need to do a proper lockdown definitely.

As for circumstances-ours are challenging I'm a Full time Carer to our disabled child , DP currently wfh.
Home education and just the relentless 24/7 nature last time was challenging in the extreme but I sincerely believe this is a time where we all have to do whatever we can now.

@Maryann1975

I don’t think I would, no. Last time was only Made bearable because Dh and I were both furloughed/claimed self employed grant and I really don’t think the government would pay out like that again. The dc need to go to school. One of my dc was classed as vulnerable and school were shockingly shit. Very little contact and we really struggled with her, meaning that our whole household was struggling with mental health. For us to be put back in that situation again would be horrendous. We could deal easily with a couple of weeks of circuit breaking, but another 6 months off, no thank you.
See, we have been plunged back into that awful position since coming out of lockdown. All 3 of my dc coped better at home for one reason or another. My dd’s mental health was such that our entire family was close to falling apart. Lockdown put “an end” to that and we had a chance to heal as a family. However, coming out of lockdown has brought all of her (and my other dc’s) issues back to the forefront. We are closer and therefore more capable as a family now because we had that break, which I will forever be grateful for. Just a shame it took a worldwide pandemic to get it.
Whyisitsodifficult · 13/10/2020 22:52

And then what happens when we come back? Stop kicking the can down the road! Feel free to lock yourself away but the rest of us who want to live their life let them!

I heard the saddest thing on the radio the other day- a young lad said he knew more people who had committed suicide than he knew with Covid.

Hyperfish101 · 13/10/2020 22:54

A short sharp, one would be preferable to the endless changing of rules with no end in sight. If they said total lockdown for 2 weeks I would accept it. The current situation has no time limit and is grinding me down.

bottlenose301 · 13/10/2020 22:56

I couldn't support it but obviously would have to do it if we were forced to. I just think until we are out of this, we'd have lockdowns every few months if we went down that route.

stayathomer · 13/10/2020 22:58

Yes but only because schools around here are having cases daily and it's not even being reported, I find out from friends who have been told their kids need to go get tested or other friends who are teachers and have been sent home. Meanwhile government here in Ireland keep saying no way to circuit breakers and that at our top level of restrictions only travel allowed will be education and health.

VillageGreenTree · 13/10/2020 22:59

Yes as it would reduce the number of people actually DYING.
Education, jobs, savings, stress can all be recovered but death is it. The end.

stayathomer · 13/10/2020 23:01

Stop kicking the can down the road!
I've heard this phrase so much on mn the last day or two. How is taking action on covid with intermittent lockdowns kicking the can down the road? That's an honest question, I dont get it. Surely the other way is kicking the can down the road, hoping masks and handwashing can combat it

starfro · 13/10/2020 23:02

Absolutely no.

WinifredSanderson · 13/10/2020 23:04

@VillageGreenTree

You do realise people are dying from things that aren't covid, right? And that stress kills. And losing your income and being unable to support your family properly isn't just a blip, it's massive.
ConiferGate · 13/10/2020 23:05

@stayathomer Meanwhile government here in Ireland keep saying no way to circuit breakers and that at our top level of restrictions only travel allowed will be education and health

How is that different to a circuit breaker?

We had the "short, sharp" one in March.

It achieved fuck all.
