Johnathan Van Tan is provided an update from Downing Street. Not looking good.

Just announced that there are more people in hospital with Covid that there were before they decided to start the lockdown in March

Good grief 😔 hope treatment has improved massively

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:18

They say there are new life saving treatments and they understand the oxygen therapy better, they say the care for these people will be considerably improved copared to the first peak

I don't believe it - I'm outside London and know for a fact one has 2 the other has 4

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:20

They admit they need to keep the elderly safe by putting in extra measures.

Protect staff and patients, - regular testing for staff in high risk areas even without symptoms

Nightingale hospitals have been asked to mobilise to accept patients in the next 2 weeks if neccesary

It must be so heartbreaking for the families of dead loved ones to hear that maybe now they could have survived with better treatment.

StrangeAddiction · 12/10/2020 11:21

Long Covid in all ages.

I feel totally conflicted. I pulled my dc from school about a week before Boris announced schools closing in March and at the minute I've got no choice but to send them**. My anxiety is creeping up again.

** I don't want to deregister them and tbh I shouldn't have to during a pandemic.

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:21

Any additional measures put in place this week will take a number of weeks to see the benefit and a srop in hospital admissions.

I’m appreciating his honesty. It’s nice to hear from someone who appears to have a bit of integrity and be trustworthy.

It’s looking bleak but at least we’ve been told about the reality.

Marcellemouse · 12/10/2020 11:22

A load are in for other things and not ill with Corona. They're just picking them up now because they test all new admissions. Don't think they were doing that before the first lockdown?

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:23

People being encouraged to still use hospital/gp and emergency services for other conditions.

OP posts:
OnNaturesCourse · 12/10/2020 11:23

What's the update. I can't watch it just now...

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/10/2020 11:24

Basically there’s no cure, no vaccine and if infection rates continue then the death rate will be “too much to bare”.

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:25

intensive care consultant speaking now - sharing experiences.

North west has 40% of all covid cases. In GM 3 fold increase in the number of patients into intensive care in the last 2 weeks. 30% of beds occupied with paitients who have COVID

Blah blah blah manchester blah blah france blah blah increases blah blah graphs blah balh pressure on the NHS blah blah measures needed blah blah whatever.

No announcements whatsoever. This is just an (exceptionally poorly presented) situation update.

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:26

Johnathans summary - Covid situation building, NHS there for everyone and not just COVID, massive collective responsibility on every citizen to defeat this virus and get under control.

OP posts:
Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:27

Does anyone know if this is instead of Boris Johnsons update?

OP posts:
StrangeAddiction · 12/10/2020 11:28

Boris is doing his at 6pm

That's exactly how I feel.

It is separate to BJ's. BJ will speak to Parliament at 3.30 and then a presser this evening.

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/10/2020 11:29

Does anyone know if this is instead of Boris Johnsons update?

I hope so. I can’t stand listening to Boris with all his stupid hand gestures. I don’t really trust much of what comes out of his mouth, I find him insincere and full of shit half the time.

Viviennemary · 12/10/2020 11:29

Never have I been less keen lo learn the latest waffle from Downing Street.

FAQs · 12/10/2020 11:29

@onedayinthefuture it is. We have lost two relatives, one had other issues but the other didn’t and was fit and well. I was thinking this and I’m sure others are also. It’s nice to see a post considering this amongst all the others. X

Jenasaurus · 12/10/2020 11:29

responsibility on every citizen to defeat this virus and get under control.

Fucking ridiculous. It's a FUCKING VIRUS. I haven't the power to defeat it, because I am not fucking wonder woman. And neither has anyone else. This whole pushing the responsibility for managing it onto the general public? Just no. Yes we should be taking responsibility for our own actions just as we always should do. But if things run out of control that's not my "fault". All the looking to blame, point fingers, shame the "covidiots" and the fecking Covid Marshalls makes me sick.

This is nobody's fault.
