Johnathan Van Tan is provided an update from Downing Street. Not looking good.

It's spread in "normal" places like shops and pubs, not in hospitals and cruise ships, and can be spread in minutes by casual contact.

I got noro last year and I assure you I hadn't been anywhere near a hospital or cruise ship.

No, I don't see the difference.

cantdothisnow1 · 12/10/2020 15:25

I agree. If provisions were made for those of us who would rather keep our children at home (due to family members who are ECV) then the other children in schools would be able to social distance more effectively.

Never going to happen. Adequate provisions are not made for children who can't be in school for disability or SEN related reasons even when there is no pandemic. And the parents of children who can't be in school due to mental health reasons are fined for not sending their children in as it stands. They are often forced to deregister too.
@captainpantbeard Bubbles within lockdown areas ok. Not across them. If she lived down the road it would be fine.

@MJMG2015 My Mum is early 50s and no more vulnerable than I am. She will spend all of Christmas Day crying and talking to my Dad’s ashes. She has no one else. To me that makes the risk worth it.
I forget there are so many 'babies' on here 🤣. I'm 51, someone's Mum on here conjures up a much older person 🤣

My Dad died at 65, suddenly, a few years ago. It's so hard. Going through the motions of life... I hope you & your Mum can bring some comfort to each other on CD. I'll be thinking of you. (My mum lives overseas so I won't be seeing her, I'll be spending the day on my own (cancelled usual Plans - but I don't mind now. Take care x

GabsAlot · 12/10/2020 15:50

There’s going to be a “postcode search” available on the Gov website from Wednesday (no doubt will be delayed) so you can search and see where your area falls.

I agree, not very clear at all and no doubt the 6pm press conference will be as clear as mud too 😩

StrangeAddiction · 12/10/2020 15:57

@Ryerossy

I feel totally conflicted. I pulled my dc from school about a week before Boris announced schools closing in March and at the minute I've got no choice but to send them

Presumably that's because they're vulnerable, or you are?

Yes dh and I are higher risk although dh has more health issues and is disabled.

I also have caring responsibilities to my dm and dgm who are also both disabled and have other health issues.

Surely pubs that serve food being able to operate at level 3 is essentially saying, pub stay open as they are?

If I ran a drinking only pub I'd suddenly be serving bowls of chips

JacobReesMogadishu · 12/10/2020 16:06

I could be wrong but I don't think they were testing hospital admissions early on

My mum has been in hospital for about 5 weeks. She was tested on admission but hasn't been tested since. She's now on her 4th ward and that's included a stint in ICU.

She's in a multi bedded bay coughing quite a bit. She hasn't had a set of obs done for over a week (end of life pathway) so no idea if she has a temp. She obviously isn't wearing a mask. I'm sat by the side of her (about 1ft away) for hours every day.

I'm wearing a mask to protect her but that doesn't protect me. The visitors to the other patients are very close to each other as beds are quite tightly packed. She's probably not even 2m away from the next bed!

Dementedswan · 12/10/2020 16:09

I've just watched the house of commons, I think so far only liverpool in tier 3, however did it not seem like johnson wants starmer to get behind him and put further areas in tier 3?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 12/10/2020 16:11

Surely if those currently under restrictions will go into tier 2..

They'll have more freedom not less!? No mixing indoors but fine to mix outside

captainpantbeard · 12/10/2020 16:12

@Carrotcakey oh that's really crappy. Your poor mum Flowers . I would go in that situation. My MIL is recently widowed and it would be awful if she couldn't see anyone. I'd be really worried about her.

GabsAlot · 12/10/2020 16:13

sorry not nottingham im getting confused already

MJMG2015 · 12/10/2020 16:15

@Ryerossy

But if it was, people wouldn't be saying 'Oh, it only affects babies the rest of us should just carry on'.

Actually I'm not sure this is right. If it only affected babies what most parents of babies would be doing is staying inside until a vaccine was ready. No one would run the risk of going outside. I certainly wouldn't. I'd protect my baby at all costs. I wouldn't take the risk of assuming everyone else wasn't mixing - I'd just simply stay indoors with my baby.

I suspect a lot of people would do likewise.

Yes, but babies don't have to work, shop, care for others or anything else.
GabsAlot · 12/10/2020 16:16

now that was funny dawn butler just direted her question straight to the pm

yes, this is what is confusing me! My sister lives in Birmingham. Currently she can't mix with any other household indoors or out, but according what BJ has just said when this comes in she can meet others in gardens or outdoor public places, so for example can go and sit in my parents garden again (pissing rain aside obviously!) actually maybe the weather is a part of it, and they assume people wont bother meeting up ourside as the weather turns? Very odd though as like you say a lot of places will end up less restricted Hmm

No - I’m in greater Birmingham and we are currently allowed to meet indoors as long as not a private residence. So I could meet my mum for a coffee in Costa but not pop round to hers for a cuppa.

Now I can’t see her at all unless I want to sit outside in the cold and rain with a small baby.

MJMG2015 · 12/10/2020 16:29

What a clusterfuck

TibetanTerrier · 12/10/2020 16:39

@Oneandzero

Last time around, my A&E doctor best friend said she had never felt so bored in her entire career. It was tumble weed. Large busy urban hospital in SE England. Idea that overwhelmed was a joke.
Which hospital was this please?
TibetanTerrier · 12/10/2020 16:47

@TheSeedsOfADream

You only have to read the utterly selfish comments on this thread alone, together with the desperate straw-clutching of the anecdotes and "well, she's got Covid but she's fine" stuff to know that for some reason England (because I don't think the other bits are so full of fools) is going to be in this shit for a long time yet.
I agree 100%.
