To shut down for at least 6 months ? This can't be true I am utterly disgusted at the way people are being treated .... the fall out from this will be worse ! Even a WHO scientist had said lockdowns don't work

halcyondays · 11/10/2020 19:19

They said could last six months, to be reviewed monthly.

dollychopss · 11/10/2020 19:20

You can't do this to people for 6 months surely

OP posts:
Gobacktothe90s · 11/10/2020 19:31

Where has it said 6 months please

ssd · 11/10/2020 19:34

BBC news says 6 months, surely not.

starrynight19 · 11/10/2020 19:36

How long have Leicester been shut down for now ?

dollychopss · 11/10/2020 19:38

I just read twitter seen 4 people say if you do this I won't be here by jan they are anxious and depressed

YellowishZebra · 11/10/2020 19:38

So many things have happened this year I wouldn't rule anything out.
But oh my goodness, 6 months feels like it might as well be forever, we will have forgotten what normal is if it ever comes back.

Redcrayons · 11/10/2020 19:52

I’m clinging to the hope that this is just hyperbole and it won’t be that long.

Totally understandable. The gov need to be aware of this. People will die that would have survived covid.
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/10/2020 20:45

No-one will comply for 6 months

userxx · 11/10/2020 21:00

The fact that rishi has planned a "local furlough" and agreed an amount that's businesses forced to shut will receive, makes me believe it's not going to be a 2 week shut down 😞.

nancy75 · 11/10/2020 21:03

We will have nothing to come back to if we carry on like this.
I can’t believe people will comply for 6 months.

lovelemoncurd · 11/10/2020 21:06

Of course it's not going to be 2 weeks. We have to wait to go over the spike and be heading down the other side. Dec I reckon.

Frequentcarpetflyer · 11/10/2020 21:07

What will this lockdown entail?

annabel85 · 11/10/2020 21:08

They're expecting restrictions for the best part of 6 months because the virus will be virulent over winter. If they shut the city's pubs and restaurants for 6 months then the city will be screwed.

annabel85 · 11/10/2020 21:10

@Frequentcarpetflyer

What will this lockdown entail?
It's not a full lockdown as the schools are still open and shops. Unclear so far over whether gyms and restaurants will close or not (conflicting reports) but the pubs will shut. No household mixing. Restrictions on travel.
userxx · 11/10/2020 21:10

Absolutely. I'm dreading tomorrow, can see me spending a good part of my day working out redundancy payments for various businesses.

Juanmorebeer · 11/10/2020 21:15

Leicester never came out of lockdown so they are on month SEVEN now with no households mixing yet nobody noticed or said how unfair it was. It is an absolutely shit situation for all

userxx · 11/10/2020 21:20

@Juanmorebeer Fair point.

Has the Leicester hospitality remained closed all this time? How on earth are these businesses meant to survive?
annabel85 · 11/10/2020 21:31

Hospitality isn't shut in Leicester afaik

Toddlerteaplease · 11/10/2020 21:32

Supposed to be going on Friday for an organ recital at the Anglican cathedral on Saturday. Will be gutted if it's cancelled!

Juanmorebeer · 11/10/2020 21:58

Hospitality is open now but it didn't open until August 3rd. It was fully closed until then and gyms only opened in Sept

annabel85 · 11/10/2020 22:16

Hospitality didn't open anywhere until July 4th to be fair. I agree though Leicester have been overlooked in terms of restrictions they've had.
Juanmorebeer · 11/10/2020 22:20

Definitely. Even though they opened the venues households have not been allowed to mix at all throughout. My niece works in a restaurant and they are apparently meant to try and restrict it with bookings but nobody takes any notice
