To shut down for at least 6 months ? This can't be true I am utterly disgusted at the way people are being treated .... the fall out from this will be worse ! Even a WHO scientist had said lockdowns don't work

If I search MN archive I'm sure lots of people in April are saying "But surely this won't last 6 months! Nobody will follow the rules for that long!"

We are now in October. 10-4 = 6 months. And all that.

Derbygerbil · 11/10/2020 22:51

Looking at threads over the past couples of months, Liverpool always seemed to be one of those places that was least compliant. Mask-wearing compliance seemed to be pretty poor for instance. The bolshy refusal to follow rules by too many people has ruined it for everyone.

XiCi · 11/10/2020 23:22

Are you just basing that on these threads Derbygerbil? Because actually statistics showed that Liverpool was the most compliant place in the UK during lockdown. Ever thought it might have something to do with Liverpool having 4 universities rather than just being full of 'bolshys'.
Fuck me, when us this unruly northerner shit going to end on here.

jakeyboy1 · 11/10/2020 23:25

Not sure why so much focus on Liverpool when Nottingham is higher? (Not that Liverpool rate isn't bad)

Do you live in Liverpool ? Work in Liverpool or even know where it is on a map ? I do live and work in Liverpool and certainly where I live there have been very high rates of compliance. The reality is that when the Lockdown was ordered the number of cases not only in Liverpool but in the larger Northern cities generally were low. We were placed in Lockdown as London cases were peaking - understandable but it didn’t appreciate that Northern cities were several weeks behind so our ‘peak’ coincided with lockdown being eased and ‘eat out to help out’ etc. Certainly from personal experience throughout the initial lockdown I did not know anyone who had even been confirmed Covid positive - that is most definitely not the case now and I suspect that we are presently now where London was in March - I can’t recall Londoners being described as ‘bolshy’ then
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/10/2020 23:28

@Derbygerbil that's absolute cobbler, love

and I am SICK of the fingerpointing

Rummikub · 11/10/2020 23:29

The places with highest infection rates are all University towns, obviously including Liverpool.
Quite why there wasn’t a strategy for the biggest annual mass movement of people is beyond me.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/10/2020 23:32

of course, the narrative of non-compliant riotous scousers has always been popular with Boris Johnson, and most of the Tory Right, but it's also a very convenient way to distract from the utter incompetence of Test and Trace and arbitrary London-centric management of this crisis

How long have Leicester been shut down for now ?

Leicester is not shut down
Restaurants and pubs opened early August.
I work in a restaurant.
We are as busy as we were before all this.
Hairdressers and gyms are open.
We are not shut down.
Im just outside of the city limit so not sure what the restrictions are supposed to be now.
Wondering what the new lock down will bring, I do feel like Leicester has been forgotten about.

Carycy · 11/10/2020 23:35

We went there for the day when playgrounds weee still banned. And were shocked the see all the playgrounds and outdoor gyms covered in kids. My kids thought is was Christmas. Not that I think playgrounds are a major spreader but it kind of shows the attitudes in the area. Maybe I am just disgruntled because my little ones scooter was also nicked from right under our noses as well while were were there. It’s left a sour taste. I won’t be rushing back.

XiCi · 11/10/2020 23:37

What on earth are you talking about Carycy

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 11/10/2020 23:37

Im in a city that was doing great numbers wise until 60,000 student washed up at our 2 universities and now we are one of the worst places in the country.

This rise in cases has fuck all to do with northerners not following the rules. It is absolutely to do with this government allowing students (from all over the country, including the south) to return to university, and the students themselves not giving a shit

XiCi · 11/10/2020 23:41

So during lockdown when playgrounds were closed you travelled to Liverpool with your children to visit a playground Confused? Then found ALL the playgrounds and outdoor gyms covered in children? (Noone used playgrounds during lockdown, they were deserted) And then someone came and took your childs scooter from you from right under your nose? Cool story Grin

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 11/10/2020 23:43

@Carycy oh do stop, that really didn't happen.

dollychopss · 11/10/2020 23:44

Liverpool residents are not to blame for this it is the government.... !!! We have no track and trace ... no reliable tests I am truly heartbroken for the people of Liverpool there will be nothing left

Could happen anywhere

Carycy · 11/10/2020 23:54

We didn’t go to visit playgrounds! We went for a walk along a front and beach visit. All allowed at the time. I came across the playgrounds and was kind of hard to say no when every other kid was on it. Plus like I say I think the playground rule was overly harsh to award the end of lockdown so didn’t have a major issue with it. But the difference from where I live and there at the time was quite stark.

Rummikub · 11/10/2020 23:55

Where was the playground?

Carycy · 11/10/2020 23:57

Of course it could happen anywhere. Just made even more of an negative impression at the time.

CountessFrog · 11/10/2020 23:59

Was it otterspool?

Which playground did you go to as all the ones in our area were locked and inaccessible. Whilst walking our dog in various Liverpool parks throughout the lock down period I didn’t see any children in the playgrounds and heard several parents explaining to their children that they couldn’t use the playgrounds so would be interested to know where this happened
LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 12/10/2020 00:03

Absolute bollocks

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 12/10/2020 00:04

That remark was to carycy & derbygerbil

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/10/2020 00:06

So, let's examine this, you travelled to the city for a day out, to one of perhaps two possible locations from your description, which have both been inundated with out of town visitors, and yourself disregarded the regulations, allowing your child to play alongside the children of ....lots of other visitors?

The beaches north of the city were TRASHED sunny day after sunny day by out-of-town visitors during the height of lockdown. The outdoor gyms were all dismantled, though and playparks cordoned off.

@LimaFoxtrotCharlie, quite.
