"There's something else going on. This isn't about a virus"

So I've seen this in a few posts.

The idea that there is something "else" going on or that the restrictions being put in place aren't for the virus, they are for "something bigger"

So would anyone care to share what they think this "something bigger" actually is, rather than vague mutterings on other posts?

Government practising control on the population for shits and giggles whilst the economy goes tits up?

5G?

Zombie apocolpypse?

Boris isn't suddenly going to go ta-da and unzip his head.

He'd likely break the zip halfway round.

I keep seeing people mentioning the new world order, Bilderberg convention? That might be incorrect spelling..

Illuminati related.. etc etc..

I haven’t a clue but that’s my Facebook timeline conspiracy theorists

@Zaphodsotherhead

Is it wrong that I already feel sorry for the poor sod who gets to monitor me (after I've had my microchip and my internet screening and all that). I live possibly the most boring life on the planet - I work in the Co Op fgs!

I give my monitor about a week of watching everything I do before they get absolutely bored rigid and go off and play Tetris whilst still claiming to be observing all my comings and goings.

In all seriousness, you are not boring, but a life saver. My local co-op has been invaluable through all this shit-show. Flowers
MagpieSong · 09/10/2020 17:04

My favourite I've heard is the Government are trying to kill people off because there are too many people in the world (overpopulation blah blah). Apparently, by forcing us to wear masks. These masks are apparently full of terrible disease and are what is causing respiratory symptoms.

Of course, we do have to ignore common sense, other countries who wore masks prior to the pandemic, builders (wear N95s for certain work), the fact the mask rule didn't come in until after people were dying and has exceptions that don't have to be proved through evidence and a whole bunch of other stuff for it to be true. What a load of codswallop.

Pylons are Thursdays. Chem trails are Saturdays.

And on the 7th Day, Bill Gates rested, divinely, I might add.

@The80sweregreat

Bored silly, Oh no! If all this is but a plan to see how we shall cope , then there's no hope for the 'real thing ' is there because so far it's been shocking ( in the UK anyway) The countries that deal with virus's better than we are currently are must be laughing up their PPE at us and our ten pm curfews!

Tartan, lots of fuckwits around! It's nothing new but this has made them more ' vocal '

@The80sweregreat *The countries that deal with virus's better than we are currently are must be laughing up their PPE at us and our ten pm curfews!"

Do you really believe we're important enough for most people to even know, never mind laughing at us.

Hell, half the people in the UK don't know which area are affected by which rules and certainly don't care what other areas have never mind other countries.

And you’re friends with them?!

If not, un friend or don’t follow!

Thankful that not one of my friends or acquaintances on FB, although numbering a relatively modest 200 has even alluded to daft conspiracy theories. Doesn’t mean some don’t believe it, but that they recognise FB isn’t the place for it

unmarkedbythat · 09/10/2020 17:19

It tickles me that people post to facebook from their smartphone to say they won't have a vaccine or download the app because they don't want the government knowing all their business or anyone tracking them. Yeah OK Dave after a quick glance at your profile, I know your first name, last name, where you live, what you look like, what team you support, who you're in a relationship with, your kids birthdays, where you work, which charities you support, which TV programmes you like and which eateries you've checked into, but you're totes anon and keeping all your business private, right?

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2020 17:27

I take the point about other countries not knowing or caring how badly we have handled this , but I bet a few of the English speaking countries might be as they have done it a lot better than us! We know about Sweden's approach and N Z so why wouldn't they know about our handling of it? News is much more global these days.
Anyway, this is about conspiracy theories and there are plenty of those to ponder and wonder at and everyone I've met seems to have one!

cantdothisnow1 · 09/10/2020 17:39

I don't think there is a conspiracy but I do think it is a bit of a coincidence that since giving my mobile phone number for the purpose of quarantine I am getting nuisance marketing calls.

The government wouldn't be making a profit from selling our data now would they?

No, don’t be daft
Oneandzero · 09/10/2020 17:42

And your post is definition of a conspiracy theorist!

cantdothisnow1 · 09/10/2020 17:44

I know it's unlikely but it is 100% the case that I am now receiving marketing calls and wasn't before.

I must have disclosed my number somewhere else, but I am careful and really can't remember doing so.

cantdothisnow1 · 09/10/2020 17:46

@Oneandzero

And your post is definition of a conspiracy theorist!
Why? I am stating, as a fact, that I am now receiving marketing calls when I wasn't before and that the only time I have (to my knowledge) disclosed my number was on the form I was required to fill in to re-enter the UK.

It is odd.

I know that it is likely that I have inadvertently disclosed it elsewhere and have stated as such but it is a coincidence that is odd to say the least.

Oneandzero · 09/10/2020 17:48

And conveniently omitting your suggestion that our gov was selling our data! Grin

I was being 'tongue in cheek' but I can see it is difficult to read humour on an internet post.

That being said data breaches do occur, especially when tasks are outsourced, so it's not impossible that that is how my number has got into the public domaine.

ohthegoats · 09/10/2020 17:56

I wrote my masters thesis about agenda 21 in 1996. I def didn't mention covid.

Oneandzero · 09/10/2020 18:00

* I was being 'tongue in cheek' but I can see it is difficult to read humour on an internet post.*

Especially on a thread about conspiracy theorists!

TheSeedsOfADream · 09/10/2020 18:04

Has anyone mentioned Jim Morrison not being dead but being Barry Manilow yet? That is absolutely my favourite conspiracy of all time and I so want it to be true.
He even looks a bit like a lizard after all his Botox and of course Jim was known as the Lizard King.

I think I might just have won the thread. Grin

TheSeedsOfADream · 09/10/2020 18:07

Actually, can I just say, joking apart, I have laughed-out-loud reading this thread which is a refreshing change in the Coronavirus section so Brew to you all.

Off to Google Finland. Where I want to go. Is it like wozzit, Scottish place that comes round every so many years? There was a musical.

TheSeedsOfADream · 09/10/2020 18:07

Brigadoon!

Agreed
But I sure as heck don’t agree any validity in your “tongue in cheek” comment that job selling our data for profit

yep!

I'm fascinated though as I had no idea about any of this.

I've googled Agenda 21 and it's a UN Treaty. Not sure where the covid conspiracy comes into it?

AuntMasha · 09/10/2020 18:09

Is it like Area 51?
