"There's something else going on. This isn't about a virus"

So I've seen this in a few posts.

The idea that there is something "else" going on or that the restrictions being put in place aren't for the virus, they are for "something bigger"

So would anyone care to share what they think this "something bigger" actually is, rather than vague mutterings on other posts?

Government practising control on the population for shits and giggles whilst the economy goes tits up?

5G?

Zombie apocolpypse?

OP posts:

Totally agree that it's easier to believe conspiracy theories than deal with what's actually going on.

The return of Voldemort?

PollyPelargonium52 · 09/10/2020 14:02

Didn't anybody tell you yet that Boris and Bill Gates have planned this all along lol......

Asterion · 09/10/2020 14:04

Isn't Bill Gates going to inject us all with microchips?

TooTrueToBeGood · 09/10/2020 14:05

Stupid people just like to delude themselves that they are not stupid by pretending they know something the rest of us don't. That's at the root of all conspiracy theories.

Our current government are not capable of running a pissup in a brewery, nor are they capable of keeping their screw-ups out of the media. The idea that they might somehow be running a top-secret plot befitting a James Bond supervillain, and in collaboration with all other national governments, is beyond ridiculous.

@TheSeedsOfADream

Or the lizard people.
It is absolutely the lizard people
pussycatinboots · 09/10/2020 14:06

Boris isn't suddenly going to go ta-da and unzip his head.

Ooh, can't we watch? Xmas Grin

eurochick · 09/10/2020 14:08

This is what happens when people spend too much time at home on the internet. In that sense it's an experiment.

ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 14:08

Yes a simulated world would be more interesting than this one, surely?

Friendsoftheearth · 09/10/2020 14:08

Nothing bigger is happening op; the virus is just what it is.

We could let the virus run through the younger generations absolutely, because they are unlikely to die (they might have long covid though) however it will soon reach the over 50's and above where it is not so straight forward. Many over 50's are high risk even if they don't know it, that is roughly half the population. It won't take long for the hospitals to become overwhelmed, and people will die in the corridors, on the streets, and elsewhere.

What we are trying to do is avoid scenes of people collapsing and dying without medical help. This might look far fetched until you crunch the numbers and realise how possible it is.

I was anti lockdown until I did some proper research, and now I am definitely behind the government measures, and if anything we need to tighten up sooner.

No big conspiracy - just a well flagged killer virus with no cure for the moment.

CoffeeDay · 09/10/2020 14:09

Chemtrails!

ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 14:10

The 5g thing I just can't fathom.

Did Marconi get this crap?

Friendsoftheearth · 09/10/2020 14:10

I suggest to everyone on the thread to watch the social dilemma on netflix if you want to know what bigger things are 'out there' that will scare the living crap out of you (and your teens, be sure they watch it)

TheQueef · 09/10/2020 14:10

Wait I thought Bill Gates had already chipped us? Are we getting an upgrade?

Asterion · 09/10/2020 14:10

In The Matrix, I always say "Take the blue pill! The simulation is much nicer than reality!!" Grin
Krook · 09/10/2020 14:11

Did you know hand-sanitiser soaks in to your skin and changes your DNA?
A reliable source at a football match told me this so it must be true Hmm

Asterion · 09/10/2020 14:11

@TheQueef

That happens on Tuesdays. It's why you sometimes feel odd on a Wednesday morning, like it's taking you longer to get started with your day.
ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 14:13

I think I were going to pick a dastardly mogul turned world manipulator I'd go for Bezos, Zuckerberg, or Dyson.

Poor old Bill Gates.

PollyEsterblouse · 09/10/2020 14:13

The hole in the ozone layer was made by the Apollo rocket. An old lady on my bus said so.

Friendsoftheearth · 09/10/2020 14:13

Wait I thought Bill Gates had already chipped us

He doesn't need to given we are all surgically attached to our phones.

TheQueef · 09/10/2020 14:13

Makes sense Asterion I'd blamed the Pylons for Wednesday.

Asterion · 09/10/2020 14:14

That's what he WANTS you to think! Wake up, sheeple!!!

Asterion · 09/10/2020 14:14

@TheQueef

Pylons are Thursdays. Chem trails are Saturdays.
DickKerrLadies · 09/10/2020 14:17

I've been wondering about this too.

I asked someone once what they thought it was that was going on and they said they didn't know, they just knew there was something Confused

Although, I'm pretty much at the point where I'm glad the Tories won the election because I can imagine what they would say if those 'commies' at Labour were imposing similar restrictions if they were in charge so maybe there is something weird going on because I never thought I'd say that Grin

Frazzled13 · 09/10/2020 14:17

I think (and I’m far from a conspiracy theorist) that sometimes what people mean when they say that it’s about something more, is not necessarily that they don’t believe the virus exists. Just that they believe the situation is being, to various extents, taken advantage of by people who can profit from it. I don’t think they all mean a global conspiracy, just what happens in every crisis, which is people looking to profit. And that’s not unreasonable, it’s sensible to critique and assess information and where it’s come from and who provides it. And that applies to any situation, not just coronavirus.

(And yes, some of the people who say it have gone down a global conspiracy rabbit hole and lost all sense of reason.)
