"There's something else going on. This isn't about a virus"

So I've seen this in a few posts.

The idea that there is something "else" going on or that the restrictions being put in place aren't for the virus, they are for "something bigger"

So would anyone care to share what they think this "something bigger" actually is, rather than vague mutterings on other posts?

Government practising control on the population for shits and giggles whilst the economy goes tits up?

5G?

Zombie apocolpypse?

@MostDisputesDieAndNoOneShoots

Changing the batteries in the pigeons, innit.

I dunno, but it's pretty obvious here in the NW.
The reasons who knows? who cares? It certainly isn't science or understandable.
Local lockdown
Primark heaving, no social distancing throughout town centre, pubs open and packed, cafes open, people working when they could be wfh, M6 packed, lol.
But can't meet anyone outside your household either inside or out. You can face large fines if caught.

@RuffleCrow

Well, it's the first time in human history we've ever been able to attempt to hide from an illness. I do wonder how much of the gentle pressure to live much of our lives online that has taken place over the past twenty years was actually leading up to this. Huge coincidence if not.
They introduced social distancing and isolation in 1666, and I doubt that was the first time either. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyam

Well, the one thing about all the conspiracy theories which is clearly true is that governments are using it to hand wads of money to their mates. I mean, handing a PPE contract to a firm that's only been around for 7 weeks and happens to be strongly linked to Tory party donors... However, it's a pretty poor conspiracy given that they aren't even trying to be stealthy about it.

Personally I think COVID is Mother Earth's way of giving us all a big fat yellow card and telling us to stop fucking up the planet we live on.

SafferUpNorth · 09/10/2020 15:20

It's to distract from Brexit. The longer we Brits live in fear of Covid, the less likely we are to wake up to the utter sh*tshow about to hit come 1 Jan.

TheQueef · 09/10/2020 15:20

That's just what Tories do Pointy they do it all the time and call it capitalism. Nowt changed there.

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2020 15:22

Nepotism and bungs to your mates are part of Tory life! It's been going on for decades. People don't seem to care as they keep voting them in to do it all the more.

alreadytaken · 09/10/2020 15:24

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady "So I'm confident in calling bullshit on that one"

Only the one?

I could start another conspiracy theory but mine would just enough truth in it to ensure it spread widely, so I dont dare,

LadyWithLapdog · 09/10/2020 15:24

@cyclingmad I’d like to read that BBC article about 2025, if you have a link to hand. Also about vulnerable people being shielded indefinitely.

CakeGirl2020 · 09/10/2020 15:28

People have always believed stuff isn’t real though haven’t they, the moon landings, Elvis isn’t dead, people that refuse to vaccinate children.

I guess they are people that can’t cope with reality, sometimes I think mental health can sadly play a part too OR they just do really believe every government in the world wants economics to be fucked, citizens to be unhappy etc You know just for fun

ravenmum · 09/10/2020 15:29

The article is imagining how life will change in future because of coronavirus, and especially about buildings:

Bill Gates is a lizard person. That's why he's so smart. All of that charitable to do he's paying for is merely cover for the nanobot control scheme.

And Trump's going to pull it out of the fire and win. I'm sure of it.

ravenmum · 09/10/2020 15:33

Here's the equivalent prediction of the future (2020) from 1989:

@SafferUpNorth

It's to distract from Brexit. The longer we Brits live in fear of Covid, the less likely we are to wake up to the utter sh*tshow about to hit come 1 Jan.
What are the rest of the world being distracted from though?
LadyWithLapdog · 09/10/2020 15:36

Thanks, @ravenmum. Interesting article by an architecture firm. Not something the BBC has put forward as likely to happen.

SonjaMorgan · 09/10/2020 15:37

Well climate change is the "something else." Covid was predicted and governments knew it was coming. They are also fully aware that this will likely happen again in some of our lifetimes and that antibiotic resistance will also be an issue.

ScaramoucheFandango · 09/10/2020 15:38

Covid was not predicted.
Pandemics are a recurring fact of life though.

TheGreatWave · 09/10/2020 15:41

I'm not saying I don't believe there is a virus I'm saying its being used as an opportunity to do other things that people wouldn't normally accept.

I agree with this, many governments are using this time to force through policy change that would usually be heavily resisted.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/10/2020 15:41

Ravenmum that Tomorrow’s World was pretty good!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/10/2020 15:43

Boris isn't suddenly going to go ta-da and unzip his head
It isn’t usually his head he unzips tbf.

ravenmum · 09/10/2020 15:43

@Judashascomeintosomemoney

Ravenmum that Tomorrow’s World was pretty good!
Not bad, huh? Maybe it's the Tomorrow's World team behind it all today, too. The giant suits and soft furnishings were clearly designed to make us think they were harmless.
BoudiccasBoudoir · 09/10/2020 15:44

Do I think this isn't about the virus? No.
Do I think there will be some legislation passed sneakily while we are diverted? Yes. There usually is.
Do I think that we will reverse all the new powers that came in with covid? No. I think this will be used as an excuse for greater powers of arrest etc. And a bit more state control.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but at this point I am generally a bit of a cynic when it comes to politics.

Unsure33 · 09/10/2020 15:44

what is so strange is that many people seem to be ignoring the fact this is world wide and other countries like spain are losing a grip as well .

perhaps it is the fact that we have not for a long time experienced a virus like this and certainly not in a time of communication explosion and SM?

people with too much time on their hands willing to use a world crisis for political purposes . People too willing to critisise without any alternative solution.

The basic rule of economics is full employment and why anyone would think that any government of any country would purposely destroy the economy is beyond me .

The way i look at it is countries are damned if they do lockdown and damned if they dont . If they risk herd immunity then they are heartless if they lockdown too soon they are heartless . If they follow science they are scared - etc etc . if they close schools they are damaging our children - if they dont close schools they are damaging our children .

My only big gripe is that we dont have a temporary coalition government . perhaps that may unite the country a bit more because i for one are sick to death of conspiracy theories .

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2020 15:45

Covid was predicted by Bill Gates in 2015! After an Ebola outbreak in Africa he did the 'Ted talks ' which are on u tube and this virus was mooted as the next pandemic to hit us badly.
My own fear is a huge bacterial infection coming down the tracks.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/10/2020 15:48

I’d never heard of agenda 21 so thanks for that.

When people think the virus is real but manufactured and then either leaked or intentionally let loose on the world, based on the target victims, who could possibly have created it? Someone who doesn’t like the elderly, men, obese people or BAME people. It’s so specific. And while the death toll is awful, it’s not that successful a virus at 1% mortality. So what’s the point?
