That's a really good point frolicking I know so many people who are obeying the rules but have decided to have one last night out tonight.
Even if it's only only households going out together, the fact that late night sittings can't happen anymore due to the 10pm rule places are going to be RAMMED tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised if businesses are not turning down the custom if they are worried it might be the last night they're open.

It's so irresponsible of the government to needlessly do this.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 10/10/2020 19:33

I went to Newcastle today to go to Mr Wolf for birthday present for my niece. Ds2 spent all his pocket money on a fancy torch he's already broken. It was OK mostly, nice to go to a few independent places.

I'll be going to Durham on Friday. Day off and a couple of books I've ordered will have been published so hopefully available for pick up. Will start to pick up christmas bits too since I won't have the kids with me. I love Robinsons the greengrocer, they deliver even out to us. I stick an order in on their website in the evening after I realise the kids have eaten all the fruit again and they deliver the next afternoon for free. Utterly wonderful.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 10/10/2020 19:40

Also, I awoke from my slumber last night and couldn't get back to sleep having suddenly realised I did not get the boiler or the sub pump serviced as I normally do in June due to lockdown. Must get on that! The sub pump had better be working the amount of rain we are having?

Snoringferret · 10/10/2020 19:52

My husband just came back from the shop with no crisps for me because they didn't have the exact type I asked for and I quote 'we have Pom bears in the house'
He bought chocolate for himself and nothing for me!!

Should I ltb???

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 20:17

You need to send him back snoringferret

FrolickingLemon · 10/10/2020 20:41

My name is Frolicking and I have a problem.. my problem is that I buy crisps. Lots of crisps. Pickled Onion is my downfall. Worcestershire Sauce is a particular issue.

I wouldn't LTB as long as we had other things in common. ;-)

Snoringferret · 10/10/2020 21:03

What kind of psychopath thinks Pom bears are an acceptable crisp for a Saturday night?

I love pickled onion crisps too frolicking but my faves are any kind of chilli type.

He did bring me a bottle of wine so maybe I should hold off the lawyers for another week.

@Snoringferret this made me snort with laughter - thank you!!

Another Pickled Onion fan here - when I was pregnant with DS, DP kindly thought to ask our local corner shop to get in extra stock! Good thing too as he was sent there most nights Grin

That's true love right there!

I would kill him & bury him under the patio for that. May seem a bit harsh but I'm a chocaholic. A judge would understand.

In reference to my previous post, I'll contact them. We wore masks but no one at the jam packed tables did

County Durham's daily cases are starting to exceed Newcastle's :( Really struggling now. The depression monster is starting to bite bigtime.

UselessASD · 10/10/2020 22:30

@swg1 I’m sorry this is so hard. Flowers

Spongeb0b · 10/10/2020 23:11

Hi Bonny lasses, great thread. I’d love to join if I may. Sending solidarity to you all! X

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 23:27

@swg1 sorry you're struggling so much. The durham city and neville's cross stats are clearly the student cases but that doesn't explain Consett, CLS and Bishy. I've said it before, though, we do have too many apparently invincible frequenters of WMCs. They tend to attract a conspiracy theorist or twenty so I can see how that problem arises.

If it's at all helpful, people in the city centre and the north of the city, where I live, have been good at social distancing etc. Even the bus station undesirables who pass through where i live from their lodgings have been trying hard with masks etc, despite their often quite extreme mental health issues.

swg1 · 10/10/2020 23:30

I'm near Bishop Auckland :( Not in one of the dark areas but edging on one. And the local facebook groups are full of conspiracy theorists about how it's clearly crap because Darlington hasn't been shut down rather than realising that maybe the outlier here is that Darlington should be shut down rather than that we shouldn't.

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 23:58

After many excursions on the number 7 bus, nothing could attract me into darlo! Saying that, there have been some pretty damning reports about the arriva buses there. the article in the Northern Echo, the other week, doesn't surprise me, as that bus depot has been pretty problematic.

Quietheart · 11/10/2020 06:07

I am sure you did not mean to imply that people with extreme mental health problems are undesirable did you PickAChew?

Definitely a keeper Grin.

Although not to much when I him to get me some tissue paper to wrap some presents and he came back with a box of tissues. I was crying with laughter though at that one!

Someaddedsugar · 11/10/2020 07:06

@PickAChew totally agree re WMCs - the local one to us was absolute chaos on the first night they reopened. It makes me so angry as the rest of us here have been so careful and are all 'doing our bit' by distancing and limiting going out etc.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 11/10/2020 07:19

I hadn’t thought about WMCs as a potential factor but come to think of it, DH works in a former pit village near Sunderland and the WMC there was sneaking people in even during the first lockdown so god knows what they’re up to now. I was pretty surprised to learn the councils don’t have the powers to shut anywhere immediately for breaches of covid restrictions, it has to go to central government first which seems madness.

Hope everyone who is struggling at the moment has an ok day Flowers

Snoringferret · 11/10/2020 08:14

I think you're onto something about the WMC, my ds lives opposite one and said they were rammed last night and there was a big fight in the car park at closing time. Confused

I am sure you did not mean to imply that people with extreme mental health problems are undesirable did you PickAChew?

I didn't get that from what she was saying. She wasn't saying they were undesirable because they have mental health problems, she was just saying that they often do. Which could be a factor in them not wearing masks etc but they seem to be trying hard to comply to the rules.

Snoringferret · 11/10/2020 08:15

Wasn't there a super spreader outbreak in Stanley due to a WMC?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 11/10/2020 08:44

WMC definitely part of it. But also high levels of deprivation in certain areas with many going from pub to pub and so spreading it along the way.

Shitfuckoh · 11/10/2020 09:09

Have you been to Durham bus station, or North Road in general? The 'undesirables' do gather there, it has nothing at all to do with mental health problems. Not many people who live in Durham feel safe around there. @PickAChew was just stating the ones that do happen to have MH issues are also trying hard - nothing at all wrong with what was said, so I think you've read it wrong.
